How common are breakfast burritos/tacos in your area?

Alaskan here. Decent options in Anchorage for breakfast burritos, not so much for breakfast tacos. As far as I'm aware. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I spent a summer in San Antonio, TX as an intern, and every Friday the company would do breakfast for us. Most often breakfast tacos, with the occasional donut or burrito.
The breakfast tacos were pretty good.
And if no restaurants in your area offer them, do you make at home?
What ingredients do you like?
PrideOfTheFoothills@reddit
Breakfast burritos can be found on basically every block near me.
damnyankeeintexas@reddit
Breakfast Tacos are a nice option when compared to Burritos. Burritos can be too much when I just want a little breakfast. Breakfast taco is basically one egg, some crumbled bacon or sausage, and cheese usually in a flour tortilla.
boomgoesthevegemite@reddit
I’m in Texas. They are everywhere. Everywhere. Fast food, donut shops, cafes, gas stations, food trucks…everyone serves either breakfast tacos or burritos or both. And everyone has their favorite.
n00bdragon@reddit
Dallas area here, yes, it's an extremely common breakfast item. Employer cafeterias will often have them. Kids eat them in school sometimes. Gas stations will sell them. There are some specialty businesses that that's all they do, period. Yes we have breakfast tacos and breakfast burritos.
Personally, I like mine best with egg, potato, sausage, and cheese. From time to time I like to swap the sausage for bacon or chorizo though. If I make them at home, they are virtually always just egg and chorizo, because chorizo is cheap and breakfast sausage gets used up for other things.
somecow@reddit
Tacos. All the tacos. There might be a taco truck parked outside the gas station that has a totally different taco kitchen inside. Lunch plates too, even at 6am. And you will pass at least six more on your way to work.
They have EVERYTHING. But holy crap. Tacos are always good but i’m tired of tacos.
foozballhead@reddit
Bfast Burritos, everywhere in varying quality. Bfast Tacos, maybe a couple options.
KricketKris@reddit
Have to actively dodge them in the street.
5hallowbutdeep@reddit
Californian here, it's everywhere.
PsychoFaerie@reddit
I'm in Houston TX... Breakfast taco and burrito options are plenty.
My go to for tacos or burritos for breakfast is chorizo potato cheese and egg.
peoriagrace@reddit
Super common.
holymacaroley@reddit
Occasional breakfast burritos here, only place I know of for tacos for breakfast are a Hispanic grocery near me that serves hot food, too.
CatOfGrey@reddit
I live about eight miles from Downtown Los Angeles, California.
I literally have dozens of places that serve really good breakfast burritos and/or tacos. And I'm not just talking about Mexican/Central American owned 'taco shops'. Los Angeles also has a 'char-broiled hamburger stand' culture, and most of those places serve breakfast burritos with potato, onion, and options of ham, steak (carne asada!), sausage (chorizo or USA sausage links), or bacon. Tacos are less frequent, because they are less car-friendly.
So yeah, a breakfast burrito in this area is probably one of the most standard breakfasts in this region!
RectorAequus@reddit
Breakfast tacos are a texmex thing and you don't see a lot of that in southern California.
Breakfast burritos, on the other hand, are everywhere.
Silkies4life@reddit
Northern Colorado, there are way more options for breakfast burritos than there are for regular eggs and toast.
Black_Dog_Industries@reddit
It’s hard to find a restaurant in California that doesn’t offer a breakfast burrito
Tacos are less common but available
Candid-Math5098@reddit
First Watch here in Florida has breakfast tacos, served with a side of black beans.
Downtown_Ganache6727@reddit
I didn’t really know that this was a thing until I had a coworker from San Antonio, and she complained about the lack of breakfast tacos. Years later we went to San Antonio for work and she took me to all her favorite spots… 10/10, Philly area is missing out
BooksBootsBikesBeer@reddit
I've never understood why breakfast tacos aren't a national thing. Only in the last 2-3 years have I started seeing them on a few menus in Salt Lake City, so maybe it's finally catching on.
elsongs@reddit
Dude. I'm from California.
EffectiveRelief9904@reddit
They’re everywhere. Not a breakfast taco, but breakfast burritos
Colifama55@reddit
I’ve really only heard of breakfast tacos being a thing in Texas. Even in California, you might find them, but they aren’t really a thing.
shelwood46@reddit
Breakfast tacos occasionally roll out of national chains -- I think Wendys and Taco Bell tried them -- but don't seem to catch on like breakfast burritos have (which are, as everyone says, ubiquitous). Wawa just added a burrito breakfast Sizzli, and they also have a breakfast quesadilla.
silkywhitemarble@reddit
Taco Bell used to have a breakfast waffle taco: scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese, and a cup of maple syrup. That thing was the best thing I've ever had, then they stopped making them.....
CubedMeatAtrocity@reddit
Yep. It may be the same thing. In Texas, our breakfast tacos are rolled like mini burritos.
Head_Razzmatazz7174@reddit
Sonic has breakfast burritos in the DFW area.
Abi1i@reddit
Sonic is the only place I’ve seen who has breakfast burritos in central Texas. Most places do breakfast tacos.
chainmailler2001@reddit
Taco Bell has (or has in the past) breakfast tacos.
Educational-Big-6609@reddit
I’ve seen both where I am, though burritos are far more common.
LetterheadClassic306@reddit
i grew up in texas so breakfast tacos are basically a food group there. when i moved away i had to learn to make them myself. honestly a good tortilla warmer makes a huge difference for keeping everything soft while you cook the eggs and sausage. also a nonstick griddle lets you do like six tortillas at once instead of one tiny pan. flour tortillas with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, shredded cheese, and a little salsa verde is my go to combo

codainhere@reddit
common here in Colorado
WWGHIAFTC@reddit
Breakfast burrito? Ubiquitous on the west coast. Everywhere anywhere all the time
Chayes83@reddit
They could be on every corner and still not common enough for me. I dream weekly about a chorizo and egg breakfast taco that I got at the Westin in Austin 7 years ago.
NJ is all about bagels, and pork roll/taylor ham. It’s so hard to find good chorizo here.
Adorable_Dust3799@reddit
Even the fast food places have breakfast burritos, tacos aren't as common
Quicherbichen1@reddit
Breakfast burritos and tacos are ubiquitous here in New Mexico. There are lines of cars around the block with folks waiting to pick up breakfast on the way to work. And just about any restaurant or fast food joint has them.
RubGlum4395@reddit
Fast food restaurants have breakfast burritos. I would guess Taco Bell has breakfast tacos?
Quix66@reddit
I never heard of them until I moved to Austin, Texas 10 years ago. Very popular there.
I don’t think they’re that popular here in the neighboring state but I guess they’re around.
I don’t like them so I don’t seek them out. For all I know they could be selling them all over town by now.
chtrace@reddit
In Houston there are hundreds of choices for breakfast tacos/burritos. You just have to find your favorite and enjoy.
And we do make breakfast tacos at home too. My wife loves homemade potato and egg tacos.
Southern-Usual4211@reddit
They are EVERYWHERE here well burritos the tacos not so much
21schmoe@reddit
New York City & Chicago.
I know breakfast burritos/tacos exist. I don't remember the last time and place saw them. So... not something I notice.
IconoclastExplosive@reddit
I live in a smaller town so I can only think of about a score of places to get them. Where I grew up, you could reasonably expect to get one on nearly any block
sanedragon@reddit
Denver. Ubiquitous.
FarFarAway7337@reddit
Some people sometimes eat them in my native New Jersey, but it's not "common". Everyone has heard of them and tried one at least a couple times. When it comes to breakfast sandwiches, it's more common to have a pork roll egg & cheese sandwich on a kaiser roll or sometimes a bagel. Occasionally, bacon or sausage pattie instead of the pork roll.
Bagel with some kind of cream cheese and perhaps other add-on is also very popular. Cream cheese add-ons vary. Other add-ins might be an onion and tomato slice, lox or smoked salmon, or more recent choices (lettuce, avocado, etc). These used to be served open-faced a long time ago, but in recent decades they are offered in sandwich form.
shelwood46@reddit
Don't forget just a hard/Portuguese roll with butter. I noticed Wawa has added breakfast burritos, Sizzli or made to order, and also breakfast quesadillas, good luck to them with that.
Euphoric_Ease4554@reddit
An Ohio chain has breakfast tacos.
Formal_Physics2038@reddit
I live in San Antonio so…common 🤣 the breakfast taco is the king of takeout breakfast. My favorites are a potato, egg, and bacon with avocado and cheese or a carne guisada with cheese.
Bean and cheese is the simplest and cheapest option. If you get it toasted, it’ll change your life.
JayPlays40k@reddit
As a fellow San Antonion, let me put you on to this: Bean and cheese, plus bacon. It is life-changing.
Formal_Physics2038@reddit
You can judge a taqueria by its bean and bacon!
Unusual-Material9443@reddit
mmmm ya i love those

that is part of what really surprised me
the breakfast taco being so prevalent vs the burrito
blew my Alaskan mind lol
used-to-have-a-name@reddit
Houstonian here. Breakfast tacos are ubiquitous, but I can’t actually picture what a breakfast burrito is. How is it different? Just a bigger tortilla with the ends wrapped up?
I think (in my head) the terms were interchangeable. 🤷🏻♂️
Pliable_Patriot@reddit (OP)
bigger tortilla yes
more fillings too
and some of them can be MASSIVE
nakedonmygoat@reddit
I'm in Houston too, and I've seen places where you can get either breakfast tacos or a breakfast burrito. The burrito is bigger and better for knife and fork, whereas tacos are hand-held.
wwhsd@reddit
That’s not too surprising to me since burritos are much better as to-go food than tacos are.
nakedonmygoat@reddit
How do you figure? Breakfast tacos can fit in one hand and be eaten on the go, but the breakfast burritos I've seen are definitely sit down and get out a fork, types of affairs.
wwhsd@reddit
Burritos are wrapped up and meant to travel. Tacos are opened faced and meant to eat right when they are served. If I’m eating the food at a different location than where it was ordered I want burritos rather than tacos.
If I’m going to get tacos to-go, I’d rather order the meat with tortillas and the other topping on the side and assemble the tacos myself when I eat them.
Educational-Big-6609@reddit
I had these wrapped in pancakes in Vancouver, BC, and they were solid.
Yourlilemogirl@reddit

I’m an Irish potato loving gal you just can’t beat a crispy potato inside a breakfast burrito or taco. Top tier.
bizoticallyyours83@reddit
Sounds good.
cohrt@reddit
Never see them on a menu outside of Taco Bell.
Saltpork545@reddit
For some places breakfast taco and burrito culture is just a staple and what is done.
For others it's not. I sadly live in a place where it's not and I live out in the country so I make basically all the food I eat.
When I get on a breakfast taco kick I will do a shredded habanero jack with fridge pickled red onions and jalapenos over a fried egg in a tortilla. I top the entire thing with a scoop of pico.
I'd love to do something like guisada or chorizo, but I don't want to spend too much time making breakfast and use an electric griddle to warm up the tortillas and cook the eggs. Takes 10 minutes to make breakfast, 5 minutes to eat and 5 minutes to clean up. That works for me.
thirdeyefish@reddit
Los Angeles. Very. Good ones.
There are also some punters, but there are plenty of good ones to be had.

scarletcyanide@reddit
They’re everywhere in the southwest. I’ve also lived in the midwest and the northeast and they’re far from unheard of, but most diners don’t have them. You’re a lot more likely to find a breakfast sandwich on a bagel
The_Motherlord@reddit
I'm Mexican in Los Angeles. Breakfast burritos are everywhere, breakfast tacos are something you make yourself at home. An equivalent would be a bologna sandwich on wonder bread. You might eat it at home all the time but you never see it on menus.
Key_Set_7249@reddit
You can find them at most breakfast places.
LopsidedGrapefruit11@reddit
San Diegan - breakfast burritos are a gold standard breakfast. I think of breakfast tacos as being a TX thing. I have never seen them on a menu, here.
imzadi111@reddit
A burrito is much easier to handle on the go if it is not a giant messy one.

I can say that breakfast burritos are very popular in Oregon and Washington. Sadly, the Mexican food in Seattle is absolutely terrible. Even in the suburbs, like Burien, there are very few good options. In Oregon, at least the Willamette valley, there is some incredible Mexican food.
Psyko_sissy23@reddit
In Seattle, I once found a pretty good Mexican food place near Pikes place. It was legit. I can't remember the name though. There is some good Mexican food places outside of Seattle for sure though.
fakesaucisse@reddit
Not a lot of great Mexican food within Seattle city limits but if you head east a bit you can find some gems. Xochi in Issaquah has the best tacos I've had anywhere outside of Mexico, and Caadxi in Snoqualmie has fantastic oaxacan cuisine. There's also Los Hernandez out near Yakima that won a James Beard award for their tamales.
lock_robster2022@reddit
Seattle Mexican food scene has always left me puzzled.
I used to work near Jack’s bbq and they had awesome $2 breakfast tacos. Every once in a while someone would bring like 50 in for the office

I’m from Texas so tacos are very common. I hate when people call them breakfast burritos. Get that west Texas crap out of here. 😆
Psyko_sissy23@reddit
I live in Arizona. Breakfast burritos are really common, even non Mexican restaurants that sell breakfast have breakfast burritos on the menu. Breakfast tacos are decently common, but not as common as burritos.
Breakfast tacos are really common in parts of Texas.

I am originally from Texas, now live in Georgia, and it is definitely a Texas thing. I have said I could open a breakfast taco business here that would be open like 6-11 and make a killing once people realize what they are and how good they are!
For those who don’t know, it is just a flour tortilla, eggs, cheese, and you can add whatever meat you want, then roll it up like a burrito, wrap in foil if not eating immediately. Have also seen bean and potatoes versions ass well for breakfast. Can be dipped in salsa, sour cream, etc.

There is a spot to get a breakfast burrito almost every couple blocks where I live. There has been some lively debate in town, on which spot has the best one. I live just 20 minutes south of Los Angeles, so you can imagine we have amazing breakfast burritos, tacos, machaca, chiliquiles, you name it. It's pretty great. I honestly can't make a better breakfast burrito at home than what I can get at these spots.

texan_robot@reddit
That's odd. Breakfast tacos are definitely a distinct thing, though I've heard people conflate the 2 before. The defining difference in my mind is size, but being served open face, preferring corn tortillas, and different typical ingredients are also part of the mix.
wwhsd@reddit
Do they usually serve them wrapped like a burrito when ordered to go? Other Texans there seemed to agree that what we were eating were breakfast tacos.
texan_robot@reddit
When to-go, yes. I guess there's a spectrum from. Burrito to taco of size, and it'll vary a bit person to person on where the line lays. For me anything bigger than an 8" tortilla gets into burrito territory, and i much prefer tacos.

In my area maybe 20-25% of the local Mexican places offer a breakfast burrito, and a few breakfast spots have one even if Mexican food isn't their specialty. So it's not a lot but there are some options. Plus there's Taco Bell and McDonald's, which I guess technically count.

Hard to go wrong with plain old papas con huevos breakfast tacos. Literally just fry up some diced potatoes, once they are cooked crack in a few eggs, mix up the eggs until they are scrambled. Eat in some freshly warmed flour tortillas. Bacon and egg tacos are also a thing.
Also some kind of ingredients lend themselves well to corn tortillas for breakfast, but neither of the ones I mentioned taste good that way, and they are not commonly eaten on corn

Very popular. I’m in the Midwest and they’re not on every street corner but it’s definitely a staple. I love making them at home myself as well. Now you’ve given me a craving lol.
Patient-Ad-7939@reddit
They’re pretty common, but I wouldn’t say as ubiquitous for people to go out of their way to eat them. But we recently had a family from Austin move into the area and open a breakfast taco shop and they make their own tortillas so it’s so so delicious. I would go decently often if they weren’t 25 minutes away, which is funny since I’m not an egg person but didn’t mind them on their tacos.
WillingPublic@reddit
In Albuquerque (and most of New Mexico), you will go out of business as a restaurant if you breakfast menu does not include breakfast burritos.
There is a small bakery near us that makes fresh bagels every day which are pretty good. They sell out every day and have things figured out so there are never any day-old bagels. I usually buy a supply to take home, but they also have a small dining-in area. On any given day, about half the customers are eating breakfast burritos and not bagels.
fatkidhangrypants@reddit
After living in San Antonio for a few years, there are only two things I miss - breakfast tacos and HEB.
In California, we have breakfast burritos which are great but don’t quite scratch the itch for breakfast tacos. A refried black bean, avocado and queso fresco (from tacodeli in Austin, preferably) is an absolutely elite breakfast choice.
Floater439@reddit
I live in Ohio. Breakfast burritos are not uncommon, but a bit less common than breakfast sandwiches (egg and sausage or bacon on an English muffin, bagel, or sometimes croissant, often with cheese). Breakfast tacos are not common. I can’t think off the top of my head if I’ve seen breakfast tacos on a menu around here. I do love a breakfast burrito; place near me makes a great one on Saturdays. So much easier to eat than a sandwich when you’re on the move!
Maurice_Foot@reddit
Heh, pretty common here. I do Blake’s #1 Bacon Green Chile brekfast burritos 2-3 times a week.
I’ll sometimes make my own on the weekend.
bizoticallyyours83@reddit
California, there's quite a few Mexican restaurants where I'm at, so I can grab breakfast burrito. Never seen a breakfast taco.
Mental_0riental@reddit
For burrito, egg, some type of potatoe browned (hasbrowns, tator tots, your choice), bacon or sausage, and cheese. That's generally the breakfast burrito
OK_Stop_Already@reddit
everywhere. I can get them in multiple places at any time. some are way better than others.
BankOk9472@reddit
Breakfast Burritos are offered at McDonalds... they aren't a rare thing.
randomwords83@reddit
In Ohio. We don’t eat out for breakfast often but I think most places have some type of breakfast burrito. But we make them at home all the time and we do: crumble sausage, air fryer potatoes, eggs, sautéed bell peppers w/onion & jalapeno and shredded cheddar.

Breakfast burritos are very common where I live.

catiebug@reddit
Breakfast burritos are extremely common in California. Tacos less so, but they exist.
Mexican breakfast is less common on the east coast, but some diners and family restaurants will have a breakfast burrito or huevos rancheros or some items with chorizo. But I've lived on the east coast for 10+ years, in several locations, and have yet to find a hole-in-the-wall breakfast burrito place like you could find in most towns and neighborhoods in California. I'm sure they are there, but it's not like "gonna get my 1200 calorie breakfast burrito and not be hungry again until 4pm" like I could do several times a week during high school and college.
14Rage@reddit
They exist in Dallas, but aren't as prolific as San Antonio. But there are many places that have them if that's what you want. From Mexican places to McDonald's.
Appropriate-Food1757@reddit
They are rampant but they mostly suck. Arizona and California have the best burritos and gap is large.
IthurielSpear@reddit
Are these breakfast tacos made with a corn or flour tortilla? Crispy shell or soft?
Abi1i@reddit
Breakfast tacos are usually made with soft flour tortillas not crispy.
IthurielSpear@reddit
Sounds yummy
vashtachordata@reddit
Soft and flour or corn, but more typically flour. They’re smaller and it’s not as wrapped up as a burrito, much easier to add salsa/hot sauce.
GooseneckRoad@reddit
In Central California breakfast burritos are everywhere! Common ingredients are chorizo, obviously eggs, fried potatoes sometimes french fries, and any usual burrito fillings really. I like mine with a bunch of tomatillo!
boulevardofdef@reddit
Not very common here in New England, which is too bad. Sometimes you'll see one on the menu at a fancy brunch place or something, but it's rare except in the freezer section of the supermarket or a fast-food place that sells them nationwide.
Riker_Omega_Three@reddit
Breakfast Burritos exist...but where I live, unless you can find a food truck, 99% of them are not worth eating IMHO
Most places always get the ratios off and use crappy Sysco eggs that make the entire thing taste rubbery
nomadschomad@reddit
I’ve lived in California, Illinois, and now Texas.
Breakfast tacos are pretty ubiquitous. They exist in every format in all those places – sit down café, dedicated taco shops open in the morning, gas station/bougie coffee shop grab and go.
Breakfast burritos in Illinois in Texas are more of a sit down affair. In California, they exist in all the formats… And that’s where they originate.
Yes – also make them at home and camping pretty frequently. Tortilla, eggs, bacon or chorizo, diced onion, cheese, cilantro, hot sauce. The camping version for me tends to have diced potatoes.
The12th_secret_spice@reddit
Very popular in Colorado but they like the smother it in green chili…that’s when I leaned they call the ones I want, handheld. Wrapped in foil and chili on the inside (most times).
emtaylor517@reddit
I'm in Texas, so obviously they are everywhere. Brisket, egg, & cheese from my favorite BBQ place are to die for.
sean8877@reddit
My breakfast is a breakfast burrito every damn day
thaconnodor@reddit
I can get either with a 5 minute drive in any direction of my house. Food trucks, sit down, drive thru. I have at least 1 breakfast burrito a week. And they all come with green chile.
Denver btw
jrc5053@reddit
Not super common in Pittsburgh. But my brother lives in LA, and I love stopping at Home State to get a Texas style breakfast taco, which was introduced to me by my brother and his wife. Would love if they opened up around here, too.
Similar_Tie3291@reddit
I went into the only taqueria in town that is open in the morning and they had no idea what a breakfast burrito was.
GSilky@reddit
Eating one right now. I keep a tortilla warmer ready to turn most anything into a burrito.
MyUsername2459@reddit
Breakfast burritos have been a thing around here for decades. I remember them first becoming popular in the early 1990's.
You can go to any gas station and get a cheap breakfast burrito. Many places that serve breakfast have some version of a breakfast burrito on the menu. . .at least the ones that don't stick to a purely "traditional" breakfast menu.
Duque_de_Osuna@reddit
I would say not that common, unless maybe you are in college.
jessper17@reddit
Not nearly enough places near me have either.
sfdsquid@reddit
I didn't know breakfast tacos were a thing.
Isn't that just... A smaller breakfast burrito?
Chalupacabra77@reddit
And crunchier!
imadethisjusttosub@reddit
No, they’re soft.
Chalupacabra77@reddit
So, tacos are soft? Burritos are soft and tacos are a crunchy shell where I come from
imadethisjusttosub@reddit
Yes, breakfast tacos are soft. Non-breakfast tacos can have be either crunchy or soft but the default here is soft if it’s not specified.
distrucktocon@reddit
Central Texas here. Ubiquitous.
Jazzlike-Basket-6388@reddit
You just about can't go to a place that has breakfast options that doesn't have some kind of breakfast burrito. We have breakfast tacos, but you have to make a more concerted effort to find them.
JeffBurk@reddit
Portland, OR here - both are everywhere in the city. You can get them all day too. I have about five places within a ten minute walk of my place.
el_butt@reddit
Currently living in El Paso so yeah, very common.
ABelleWriter@reddit
Breakfast burrito? Most places that do breakfast have them.
Breakfast taco? I think I know one place that does them.
AliMcGraw@reddit
Chicago, every diner-type spot that isn't a corporate franchise has them. My favorite are Jewish delis with a full Jewish deli menu and then a secondary "Mexican breakfast" menu. But everywhere that does breakfast has Mexican breakfast options because the kitchen staffs are all Mexican immigrants

I have occasionally made a breakfast burrito.
imadethisjusttosub@reddit
I’m from Southern California and used to get breakfast burritos often.
Now I live in San Antonio and you know how it is! My husband and I get breakfast tacos every Saturday and it’s not uncommon for somebody to bring them to work on occasion. Like yesterday.
I like potato and plus something else, like bacon or sausage or cheese. But if you’re trying to evaluate how good a new spot is, the bean and cheese is the metric.
Redbubble89@reddit
Burritos are common. Some are New Mexico style with red chili. Others are potato, fajita mix, and bacon, chorizo, or taco meat with eggs.
Tacos are around but not very consistent that good
SuperPomegranate7933@reddit
We do breakfast burritos & quesadillas at home. I typically see burritos in the wild.
mr_miggs@reddit
I live in southeast WI. They are pretty common. There is a pretty sizable Hispanic population in Milwaukee and some of the surrounding towns, and the food in the area is influenced by that.
It’s even pretty common at brunch places that otherwise serve typical North American breakfast fare to at least have a breakfast burrito on the menu.
bagoslime@reddit
I live in central texas. Breakfast tacos are literally everywhere.
pinniped90@reddit
Burritos are everywhere.
Breakfast tacos are not as common.
I worked in San Antonio for six weeks once and felt like I gained 20 pounds. The food there is so fucking good and the breakfast burritos were at the top of the list.
cdb03b@reddit
We have both here in Texas fairly standard. They utilize all the same ingredients and same preparation style, the only difference is size. A breakfast burrito is large and takes up an entire plate requiring you to sit down and eat it (often with utensils) while a breakfast taco is essentially street food that can be eaten by hand standing as you go.
You talk like the differences are major, what are breakfast burritos up there?
DOMSdeluise@reddit
breakfast tacos are ubiquitous in Houston. I heard somewhere they were invented here but I have no idea if that is true.
Creepy-Floor-1745@reddit
I cook breakfast at home and often roll scrambled eggs into a flour tortilla but I’d prefer toast, I use low carb tortillas but taste better than low carb bread. If I’m not caring about macros, buttered toast > tortilla
And I’m in Texas so yes breakfast tacos are available at dozens of establishments within a 5 min drive, not burritos
North-Country-5204@reddit
I rarely eat burritos but tacos almost daily. I know it’s wrong and has to do with my personal changes in what I eat over the years but I associate burritos, and nachos, with the 1980s.
WestBrink@reddit
There's some available, but they're mostly garbage.
Lived in Los Angeles for a few years after college and that's one of the few things I really miss about the area.

Sonic has them, I think McDonald’s too.
Pliable_Patriot@reddit (OP)
not the same though
Cheap_Coffee@reddit
Breakfast burritos aren't rare but I've never seen a breakfast taco.
Abi1i@reddit
A breakfast taco is a lot simpler than a burrito. It’s typically a flour tortilla (small taco size, not burrito size) with two to three items (common ones are eggs, cheese, potatoes, bacon, sausage, beans). They’re a staple breakfast item in Texas. Plus they’re quick and easy to make.
ChickenNugs4Hugs@reddit

scumbagstaceysEx@reddit
In the northeast they are not very common. It’s breakfast sandwiches: Either on a hard roll, an English muffin, or a bagel. There are places that will have burritos but it’s not a default breakfast item like it is out west.

CreepinJesusMalone@reddit
Yeah I'd say they're pretty common most regions in the lower 48, especially if you're not too far from an urban center. Which, even then, rurally you can randomly get some insanely good Mexican/Texmex food trucks and small restaurants.
Like, there's a spot in Charles Town, West Virginia not too far from me that has excellent breakfast tacos.
Which is saying something because I lived in Houston for three years and it's tough to compete with that kind of authenticity that's tied directly into local culture like that. When I was stationed at Ellington Field, my supervisor would grab a huge bag of breakfast tacos and burritos from a shanty little spot near the base. Unfortunately that usually was an indicator that we were in for a long goddamned day and he was trying to ease us in lol.
Personally, I like corn tortillas with chorizo, scrambled eggs, cheese, and some spicy pico.
DesertWanderlust@reddit
Breakfast tacos is more of a Texas thing. In the rest of the country, Mexican breakfast consists of breakfast burritos or some other familiar food item, like pancakes. The only place where I live to get breakfast tacos that I'm aware of is at Whataburger, which is a Texas-based fast food chain.
