One of my favourite aircraft in the world, Looks like a bullet
ZeePM@reddit
Looks like a polished version of the D-21 drone developed for the SR-71
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
The depressing thing about this is they're learning how to do pre-compressor water/methanol injection with this. That is to say they're having to relearn what P&W did with the same engine for RASCAL over two decades ago. All this research when, "back in the day", McDonnell Douglas and GE were able to add this to an early F-4 to go after the Skyburner record almost as an afterthought.

Looks like the Hermeus' tech isn't as elaborate as that developed for RASCAL. (P&W actually did the work but then DARPA cancelled the program.)
STAXOBILLS@reddit
That’s the thing I notice with companies like this now days, they’re spending all this money to do and find out things that the big dogs did back in the 70s
garygigabytes@reddit
True they tried all different kinds of things. But they didn't find it feasible back then with their current tech. Nowadays things are very different and can approach these problems in a different way that wasn't possible before.
m-in@reddit
The big dogs don't share.
STAXOBILLS@reddit
They really don’t at all and it’s SO FUCKING ANNOYING. And what they do share is IMPOSSIBLE to get, like great I’m glad Grumman has a massive archive and they proudly boast about it on their website but why the FUCK is it so damn hard to contact them, all I want is to get a clear answer for what the tomcats landing gear struts are made of via a material spec sheet, why the fuck is it so hard to find dawg😭
supermuncher60@reddit
The intellectual property that those companies own is a massively valuable thing that no one gives away for free. To get that info you likely need to write a contract with them and sign NDAs and pay millions of dollars.
Some legacy companies the test date and info they have on manufacturing and processes is the most valuable thing that they own.
ziper1221@reddit
Yeah. I found a few old papers about hydrofoils by Grumman or a long-defunct company called HYDRONAUTICS; and the works cited page will have 100 references, half of which have titles which exactly describe what I'm working on, 97 of which are unavailable on the internet. I've actually had decent luck reaching out to those which were published by organizations which still exist, but that is rare.
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
Could be worse. When Fairchild-Republic closed it's doors they gathered up all the hard copy documentation they had and threw it out. The only stuff that was saved was that which individual employees squirreled away.
N3onknight@reddit
Because then they'd ask you back why would you want to know ? Who are you ? Are you connected in any way shape or form to iran ? Bruh, We have you on thermals, your pc is overheating.
CardOk755@reddit
Ask the Iranians?
ziper1221@reddit
If the research was paid for by DARPA shouldn't it be in some government archive somewhere?
KommandoKazumi@reddit
To be fair its likely P&W never bothered to share their methods while Boeing treats their aquired tech (from McDD) like forbidden scrolls locked away in some crypt buried under the bodies of whistle blowers and tax collectors.
rcbif@reddit
This gives me Planet Express (ship from Futurama) vibes.
Pmyers225@reddit
Hold up, thats a modern prototype!?... That's straight 50-60's styling... That's extra cool now
Annual-Advisor-7916@reddit
The design goal of just speed too! 50s engineers probably assumed that 20 years later they'd fly missile shaped aircraft at mach 5 into a soviet bomber formations and fire an unguided nuclear missile on them.
able111@reddit
Good lord stop i can only get so erect
Pmyers225@reddit
Look at the English Electric Lighting for an Interceptor example
ziper1221@reddit
the Sears-Haack body is timeless
Empty-Meringue-2386@reddit
Yes it looks like the X-10 of the 1950s.
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
Have you seen an X-10? More like an F-100.
X-10:
Tasty-Fox9030@reddit
What is that, a prototype Navajo or something like that?
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
The X-10 was a flight test vehicle for developing flight controls for the Navajo missile.
LurpyGeek@reddit
I feel like this picture is kinda dirty.
Tasty-Fox9030@reddit
Naaaaaw that's very wholesome.
KokoTheTalkingApe@reddit
Yep. Like a deer nuzzling a fucking fawn.
_Empty-R_@reddit
Why the emphasis on fawn? Or is the fawn specifically for fucking? Because it seemed a bit extra is all.
KokoTheTalkingApe@reddit
Why not emphasize it? It's a fucking fawn,
_Empty-R_@reddit
bro is crazy about fawns. fair enough.
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
What kind of sick fuck are you?
_Empty-R_@reddit
I don't think any kind. His wording seemed strange and out of nowhere. I'm poking at it. The internet is a fun place.
Fluffy_Muffins_415@reddit
Just booping the snoot
Pmyers225@reddit
Yeah apparently so
Brad__Schmitt@reddit
Numerous F-15 design elements.
GhostPepperDaddy@reddit
Who upvoted this lmao
Annual-Advisor-7916@reddit
I don't see anything like that? It's overall configuration seems to resemble the Convair Delta Dart a bit with an F-105 inlet.
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
Name one.
Brad__Schmitt@reddit
The shape of the wings.
Virtual_Area8230@reddit
Nope. Different leading edge angle, no camber on the leading edge, straight trailing edge, no rounded wing tip. Even the cut on the wing tip on the F-15 was pure coincidence. The original YF-15s had a different wing tip altogether that they clipped as a result of flight testing. They cut it off to fix wing buffeting. Literally sawsalled the thing off on the prototypes.
Pmyers225@reddit
Yeah or a MIG-21 or F-100
atxbikenbus@reddit
The dude in the background doomscrolling is the dead giveaway.
SkylineGTRR34Freak@reddit
Yep, that bare polished aluminium sure is something
Thermodynamicist@reddit
It reminds me of the MiG-21I.
richdrich@reddit
I do like the idea of a bleeding edge, hypersonic, Airforce One.
Maybe something like a Trident missile with pop out stub winds and a bicycle undercarriage, should the need arise to land it.
bannedUncleCracker@reddit
… first thought was F-100 …
Annual-Advisor-7916@reddit
Seems that you can build beautiful aircraft if you only care about speed and have no requirements of a low RCS. Sonic boom reduction seemingly wasn't a goal either, haha.
liberty4now@reddit
No space for radar in the nose...?
Unlucky-Debt5467@reddit (OP)
There is no nose, It's all INLET!!!
LazyMarcusAurelius@reddit
so it’s a delta wing, pilotless, mig-21?
meeware@reddit
I mean it's pretty, but.... what's the point?
wintrmt3@reddit
Technology demonstrator for their engine.
meeware@reddit
Hmm, ok. This is the chimera- an f100 that converts to a ram jet. That looks like a bit of a long shot to me.
sinfulcaviar@reddit
The front needs to be pointy
NullNeptune0@reddit
Yes Aladeen
Ok_Buddy_3324@reddit
You are HIV Aladeen
Captain_Lolz@reddit
Why are you repeating yourself?
AutonomousOrganism@reddit
The front is the engine inlet.

Some sexy shots in that video.
Tasty-Fox9030@reddit
Needs a little plexiglass bubble on top for the lego man to sit in.
gettingassy@reddit
It's like 5GAT had a baby with a Mig-19
ST0IC_@reddit
An engine with wings.
slups@reddit
Son of Mig-21

Top Speed: Mach 5.5. God damn
DoorCnob@reddit
Not this version I think
RocketManX69@reddit
This aircraft is a stepping stone to a Mach 5+ one. With an inlet like this, the normal shock that forms will not allow a top speed much above Mach 1.4-ish
booggg@reddit
Not to mention the polished aluminum would melt off at Mach 5.5.
bowlersgrip@reddit
my porno name
Titan5115@reddit
There's an f16 in there but i just can't prove it
Empty-Meringue-2386@reddit
t's a tricky pony, because as a quarter of a horse it only has one leg (I'll see myself out)
zevonyumaxray@reddit
And down the rabbit hole I go! Buh-bye.
