How can 'Independence Day' be 30 years old? How?!

Side note: the final season of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air came out the same year.

Ouch!!!

Oooffff…where does the time go?
YourGuyK@reddit
Well, the way I see it, it's because it came out 30 years ago.
curious-thatguy@reddit
lol, so we might have a few years on us 😝😎👊✌️

Jeebusss. I saw this in the theatre a few days after it came out.
This_Fkn_Guy_@reddit
I watched that a few days after I graduated school so that was a few years ago
aran_maybe@reddit
It was released in 1996. It is now 2026. 2026-1996=30

I was watching Dumb and Dumber recently for absolutely no reason and I thought Jim Carrey looked young. It was released in 94 Jesus crispies

Wtf! How!!!

Independence Day has aways existed.
Time isn’t actually linear. The universe is contracting and collapsing in on itself while exploding and expanding simultaneously.
The only real “time” is now.
And it’s eternal.
Duh.

Jeremy Bearimy baby

I said that about Sublime coming out with a new album with Bradley's kid as the new lead singer. Wasn't he just a baby. Oh wait he's in his 30s now.

And he sounds a lot like his dad. 🥹

Also…don’t look now but Fellowship of the Ring turns 25 this year.

You blinked, didn't you?

When this movie came out, it was sold out constantly. We had to sneak in to see it!
Need to give it another watch to see if it aged well.
thewalruscandyman@reddit
By being 29 last year.
BenefitAdvanced@reddit
Wow way back when Will Smith wasn’t a piece of shit.
Emotional_Mess261@reddit
Haven’t rewatched Independence Day or anything of his since the slap heard around the world
Mugwumps_has_spoken@reddit
well he probably was, he just hid it better. If you watch any of his older movies you can see the same cocky self centered person he turns out to be.
mister_robat@reddit
Well, that is how linear the works
not_a_moogle@reddit
Damn myself for being a linear corporeal being
cybrgigolo@reddit
This may have been the last movie I stood in line for.
Weird-Girl-675@reddit
I realized the other day Pretty Woman is 36 years old and felt a stabbing pain in my hip.
Don’t go down that rabbit hole…
Maximum-Elk8869@reddit
Honestly, at this point it feels like 100 years ago.
Mugwumps_has_spoken@reddit
memories of watching this in college in a theatre just off campus with a group of friends of friends, and one of the guys who had seen it before waited and the scene when the Alien everyone thought was dead suddenly grabs Dr Okun (Brent Spinner) he purposely grabbed my arm at the same time to give me a double jump scare.
I can laugh now, but at the time I was so mad.
paullbart@reddit
30 years since we whooped ET’s ass.
Azipcoder@reddit
Bill Pullman doesn’t age.
Glass-Nectarine-3282@reddit
It's funny, this was a HUGE event at the time, but there's little nostalgia for it I went to see it on Day One and the theater was packed etc etc, but nobody talks about it now.
Obviously that's because it didn't get franchised, and it was kind of goofy. They really tried to make Connick happen.
I'm sure someone will reply with an "actuallllllllly" response, but it's just not a movie that translated to the 2020s like many others.
Financial_Cheetah875@reddit
I don’t know about that. I know a lot of guys who watch it on or around every 4th of July.
OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
It's actually 34 years old because 2020-2021 counts as 5 years.
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit
It can't be that old. I went to see it in my late 20s and I'm barely in my 30s now
