Heard a huge crash outside my apartment window in downtown Dallas, and…

Still haven’t seen them get the person out. I hope they’re okay (this is right next to the St Paul Station, on Ervay).
Moerijuana@reddit
Do they know they can’t park there???
daedaeboi@reddit
How dumb you gotta be to risk it in dart bus area
cuberandgamer@reddit
People really gotta stop running red lights by the DART tracks
Actually people just gotta stop running red lights anywhere
FamousDestroyer5@reddit
I was near deep Ellum a week ago and traffic was standstill and almost no one was moving. Come up to the train tracks I stop before them because there’s no space for me without being on the track. Some guy honks at me when the train is literally stopped right next to us and sure enough the rails go down 5 secs later. Train passes and they go up and traffic still hasn’t changed, these ppl don’t gaf 💀
woahwoahwoah28@reddit
I saw a Tesla get the bar put down on his back trunk near Fair Park. Thankfully the traffic in front of him moved in time, but I was panicking because no way the train could stop in time.
Icy_Huckleberry_8049@reddit
the railroad arms can be broken if you drive through them, they're not a permanent structure, they're designed to be broken if needed.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Some a-hole honked at me for being stopped, when there was literally a crowd of pedestrians in front of me in a crosswalk. Do you want me to slowly plow people down with my car? I really do not understand rude Dallas drivers now. How they bask in their meanness. This isn’t the Dallas I was born in anymore 🙄
RobonianBattlebot@reddit
Its so wild how much it has changed here, and I don't know why. NOBODY would honk when I was a kid. I am 40 now. It was considered super rude. We also would wave to people who let us over (i still do this) and would drive towards the shoulder in rural areas so the person behind us could pass if they wanted (Only if theyre right behind you, lol don't drive in the shoulder constantly). People here are so strange and aggressive now, especially after covid.
Past-Football629@reddit
Agree with the covid observation. It broke something in the public psyche where road etiquette is concerned.
Icy_Huckleberry_8049@reddit
not just on the roads - EVERYWHERE
Icy_Huckleberry_8049@reddit
Most people are from other cities / states.
very few people are left that actually were born and raised here.
Purple-Claim-5782@reddit
We got rid of red light cameras. I see this as a direct result of that.
upliftinglitter@reddit
It’s so strange and hostile— it’s scary to go into intersections, no one waves, no one signals, and so many people cut you off
Economy_Walk@reddit
Happened to me today on the way home from work. Two cars in front of me weren't turning fast enough at the red light for the prick behind me. So, he laid on the horn. I normally try to ignore ignorant people on the road. I looked in my mirror and just threw my hands up. Like, what the hell was I supposed to do?
ILoveTravel76@reddit
They can honk all they want. I won't be the dumbass stopping on train tracks. Good for you. ❤️
I_Like_To_Swing@reddit
We should stop using stoplights and switch to roundabouts
p8nt_junkie@reddit
I was at Garland(78) & NW Hwy westbound at the red light and my wife and I counted 4 red light runners going in all remaining directions while we sat there before our light turned green again.
Dallas 🤷♂️
pavlovs_monkey@reddit
My first time driving in New Orleans, I noticed there was no delay between one side's red and the other side's green. That's gotta up the stakes!
rThundrbolt@reddit
The most egregious one I've seen was like 5 years ago around 2am, someone was going north on Greenville avenue and hit the light at Mockingbird going about 80mph. They never even tried to stop, just 80mph running the red and continuing on going the wrong way into the one way traffic portion of Greenville. Was doing Uber Eats at the time and never heard or saw any emergency action the rest of the night so luckily nothing horrible came of it.
dfwdevdotcom@reddit
So true, they won't though
calmrain@reddit (OP)
Update: they managed to get the driver out! She is alive and in the ambulance. I live really high up, and I felt the vibrations from the crash, at first. I was worried for the driver 😮💨
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
I hope their insurance forces them to take a defensive driving class once they’re recovered. Maybe they’ll learn something.
bemvee@reddit
I would assume being hit by a DART train is a more impactful lesson than a two hour defensive driving class at Joe’s Crab Shack. But I also assumed this driver was either drunk or idiotically stayed sitting in their car that stalled on top of the tracks.
justwanderingtoday@reddit
There's still a Joe's Crab Shack? I haven't seen one in years. The food got so crappy they finally closed them here.
bemvee@reddit
I honestly have no idea, but it’s been over a decade since I had to take a defensive driving course after getting a ticket and it was hosted in a Joe’s Crab Shack. The vibes were very weird.
ChangeDizzy4376@reddit
that was my one and only defensive driving course back in the early aughts, too. In the same Joe's Crab Shack that I was thrown a surprise 16th birthday party by my bestie a few years earlier. What a head trip
bemvee@reddit
Was it the Grapevine location? I wasn’t even raised here and for some reason that location made it more surreal for me lol
brigitteer2010@reddit
Hahahahahahaha goddammit I hate laughing at this but you set the scene so vividly

I saw this tonight walking home. In fact, I think you can see me in this photo.

No
ViolaFields@reddit
I have low vision issues and especially dark images or just in the dark anywhere. I failed to see the 3 dots for more info. Hope all the downvotes were fun.
Csharp27@reddit
I’ve definitely taken a wrong turn and ended up on those tracks at night before. Then spent the next 30 seconds nearly shitting my pants turning around trying to get off of them. Looks like that’s not what happened here but yea. They really look like a road if you don’t know your way around very well.
muomo@reddit
Not again 😩
People really need to start stopping at red lights in this city.
StRemedius@reddit
I agree with you completely, but I'll also add that an issue downtown is with people trying to get through a green light and get some doofus who stops right on the other side of the intersection for no readily discernible reason. Are they testing their brakes, are they stopping to rewind that TikTok video they're watching, did they drop their phone, or are they seeing tracers from the heroic dose of LSD they took 15 minutes before? Who can tell? (I say this because I've been caught on the tracks in this same exact situation...and the only reason I didn't block the train route was that I was on a bicycle.)
Houstonontheroad@reddit
I was not the driver
I got up late and missed the bus
GetMaBFG@reddit
Okayyy. Real talk, what's rent like there? Ive been thinking about moving into the city.
Agile_Elevator_6497@reddit
I live in the building that OP is in. It’s not bad here and we have big units! I think they start around $1800 here. Maybe a little lower.
Agile_Elevator_6497@reddit
The driver of the car was fine. I was down there after it happened and she was laughing with the cops. 🤦🏻♀️ Also, looks like you live in my building, haha!
CuddleConnoisseur@reddit
train obviously swerved
IfOnlyLifeWasEasier@reddit
The train will always win…
Empty-Initial6392@reddit
I've lived and driven in many different cities all over the USA, and consider Dallas drivers the worst, most inconsiderate, rude, aggressive and either completely ignorant of regulations and law, or simply DGAFF!
Both-Rough-Hewn@reddit
Yeah, those trains are always 'sneaking up' on folk.

HighPlainsDrifter79@reddit
oh their neck or back will be hurting for sure.
AdagioBitter@reddit
Were they driving a Nissan Altima with paper plates by any chance?
AdagioBitter@reddit
Were they driving a Nissan Altima with paper plates by any chance?
LordLip@reddit
That’s why my train isn’t moving huh
FlappySmasher@reddit
Man, as I guy who also takes the train, I feel you. My train has- gotten on fire, I've gotten stuck in the tunnel in city place, my train had to skip the stop I needed to go once cause there was police activity. Taking Dart sucks sometimes- I'm not blaming dart- its just life being mean
NeverEndingHope@reddit
I wanna add on; wasn't running because of a crash, forced to stop because the next station was shut down, and sometimes didn't even show up. I love Dart but damn if it isn't an unpredictable roller coaster sometimes. I just wish the app reflected or alerted to interruptions and news faster because often times I'll hear about it on Reddit or one of the Dallas instagram accounts before Dart communications.
LordLip@reddit
I could walk it’s only two stops but I just finished my shift my dogs are barking

Man them trains come out of no where.
snake-lady-2005@reddit
If only there was a way to tell where they are and when they'll be there...
IAmSixNine@reddit
You are so right. I mean i thought we had the technology but man these ghost trains are such a danger to society. I mean tracks are approaching, it could from from ANY of the 2 directions. Do you look left or right. These decisions are tough. They take time away from using your phone while driving.
snake-lady-2005@reddit
They'll getcha

timeIsAllitTakes@reddit
As someone who lived downtown for a while I've got to say, the lights down there are total shit if you arent used to them. They are way off on the sides of the road and it's so easy to just get tunnel vision at night and realize you're looking through the lights at your intersection and instead looking at the ones down the road.
And don't even get me started on those weird ass side streets to the tracks with the concrete city titties separating them. I've seen so many people turn directly onto the tracks when clearly their GPS navigates them there but they don't realize they need to be further right.
I'm not saying this person didn't fuck up but also I try to have some understanding that it's a poor setup down there.
Goetia-@reddit
Agreed. I have to really focus up when downtown. It's a rarely encountered light pattern and you can easily zoom right through one if you're just watching the road farther ahead.
rThundrbolt@reddit
Having the only traffic lights be on the sidewalk is terrible design and I hate it so much
YoshidaEri@reddit
Concrete city titties?
beautamousmunch@reddit
Haven’t heard that term in a very long time.
No_Obligation5739@reddit
Ever… went, “huh”?! Then immediately realized what they were talking about!
mccaigbro69@reddit
They aren’t concrete. They are ceramic traffic buttons.
Breeeeebly@reddit
There are these bumps on the ground that are about cantaloupe sized, and they're the only thing separating the train tracks from the street adjacent to the tracks. The bumps are easy to miss and drive over, so there's the question of why the city doesn't have a more visible barrier between the tracks and the street.
tmc00138@reddit
I left work and saw the emergency vehicles up there and immediately thought "somebody turned onto the tracks." It's true that that intersection is poorly controlled.
But it's also true that DART trains move very slowly through that stretch. In order for her to get hit right in that place, the train would already have been in the intersection at the time when she entered it. She clearly should have seen it coming in time to stop. This one's on the driver.
HamiltonButler01@reddit
This looks like some opening city action shot from a 2000’s Spider Man Movie to me lol
Just the angle of it
datdouche@reddit
My name…is Nolan Ryan. I was bitten by a radioactive spider-monkey from another dimension.
rThundrbolt@reddit
Everyone knows that the only monkeys that Nolan battles are snow monkeys
datdouche@reddit
Dangit I couldn’t think of it haha. Edited.
DookieMcDookface@reddit
The angle reminds me of the old school 2D Grand Theft Auto video game… cops and all.
Engagethedawn@reddit
The ads are evolving
DFWRailVideos@reddit
See tracks? THINK TRAIN.
Black_Wolf1995@reddit
See the problem lies with the fact that some people just don’t think…. They just do.
They don’t check for trains. They don’t check for cops. They don’t care who gets in the way. They don’t care about damage to property (rather it’s their own, the city’s, or someone else’s)
It’s all about getting from A-B in record time.
No_Obligation5739@reddit
And them getting there FIRST
pianotimes@reddit
Username checks out
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Now they’re really going to be late! They should have just waited at the red light. 🙄
ForgottonTNT@reddit
Trains are loud, trains only go one way, trains are Big and some how ppl always are getting hit by em
snake-lady-2005@reddit
Technically they go 2 ways. Left and right. Lol
inked_saiyan@reddit
Of all the places I've lived and traveled, Dallas by far has some of the most dangerous and impatient drivers. I hope it's not another fatality.
xoxo_angelica@reddit
I fucking heard that, all the way in uptown! I can’t believe she is alive after that, holy shit.
texanlynx@reddit
I miss being at Gables sometimes
OneMoreRoundForMe@reddit

ExistingTheDream@reddit
Do you think the ambulance driver told her she can't park there?
Majestic_Act1125@reddit
I heard it as well, glad the person is okay
CourageStriking447@reddit
I bet the driver was tryna make it to the stars game 🙈
Upstairs_Balance_464@reddit

NowWeGetSerious@reddit
Scary stuff, hope she's okay
But damn, that's a daredevil poster right there, great angle oddly enough
yellowsun_97@reddit
Hope she’s okay and wishing her a speedy recovery.
Top_Tip6008@reddit
really bad
Arrasor@reddit
Oops that hit the driver side. There's no being okay after that.
