Where to sell LEGALLY obtained catalytic converters?

**Mod team, I am not trying to sell anything on Reddit. Just looking for a local scrap yard.**
My boss bought two exhaust systems off of parted out Mustangs to rebuild the exhaust on his 68 Chevy panel van. He just needed the pipes, so he gave me the cats to scrap. Anyone know where I can take them? I don’t have a bill of sale, but I was there when he bought them.
Will any scrap yard take them and then just copy my ID for liability? Or do I need to go to a specific place? Any help is appreciated, as I’ve also got a John boat, motor scooter, and other scrap metal I’ve been waiting to take to the scrap yard.
Thanks y’all!

My boss gave me one too I'm interested in answer here

As a commenter posted, it’s apparently a felony to just possess them without proof of ownership of the vehicle. I’m just going to dispose of them. It’s a shame all the druggies screwed over law abiding citizens but I definitely understand where they’re coming from. I’ve had 2 stolen in the 6 years since I moved back to Dallas.

In Garland they used to rotate the manufacturing parking lots during shifts. Broad daylight. It’s gotten better now that the Turimex got pushed out of Garland. The old stop near the old Garland Super Walmart got that Walmart closed. One of the first to lock up everything.
I’m not making any aspersions as to the clientele of said bus line; just that wherever it stops, things go missing.

Where would dispose of them for proper recycling? This seems like a catch-22.

Proper recycling? No clue. But we’re gonna give it to the guy that comes by and ask for scrap metal. Won’t be the first cats we’ve given him lately so I’m sure he’s either a) is selling them illegally or b) knows what to do. Either way, that’s my boss’s problem. Not mine. Still a shame though that all those metals can’t be officially recycled and reused.

If he has a relationship with the yard they're not going to blink an eye. I experienced a meth head stealing a non-functional truck of a deceased relative. They registered and insured it, then nearly killed people when they crashed due to meth head maintenance. You can imagine the paperwork that didn't exist when I called the scrap yard.

I could maybe take that John boat off your hands?
juugbuussin@reddit (OP)
It’s got holes in the bottom unfortunately, from when I took up axe throwing, otherwise I would definitely be giving it away.

Sounds like you need to recreate those old FlexSeal commercials that said they could make a screen door water tight!

It boggles the mind how much they will pay for some OEM cats... I sold the 3 from my blown up 03 Accord last year for $820 The woman at the counter said they would pay $2k for the big one from a new Silverado.
I posted the info on nextdoor so people could "steal" their own converters b4 the cracksters got 'em... Why not cash in yourself when you can spend $500 to have a good aftermarket cat installed and put the rest in your pocket?
They sawsalled one off my old F150 while I was getting pizza pizza, I replaced it with a $300 cat from Magnaflow. That was over 5 years ago and it still passes the emission test. I don't recommend buying the cheap ones on ebay or amazon though... You'll be lucky if they last a year.

Under Texas law you can't even possess used converters unless you own the vehicle they came off of, so technically just possessing those converters is a felony. The only scrap yards that will take these are operating illegally, I'd be surprised if they didn't call the police on you when you showed up with the converters. The law, though well-intentioned, had the side effect of creating a whole bunch of felons in this state, and the safest bet would be to dump the converters somewhere so that they end up in the landfill. The alternative is your life being ruined and possibly dying in prison.

Late to the party, but there are or were lots of yards that don't ask questions once upon a time, depending on the person.
I'm reminded of an incident a long time ago. Guy bought a piece of property. There were abandoned wrecks on it. He tried to take them across the scales. No titles. They stayed on the trailer. He pulled off the side of the road to consider his options and an obviously methed out scrapper & bro asked him what the story was. He explained the situation, he didn't want to haul the trash back home. Methboi & bro paid far below market, saying the guy at the yard would take them from HIM because they had a relationship. Truth? Fiction? I'll leave that to you.

I dont want to snitch on the last scrap place I sold mine at but he told me the same thing. I said I can get my title but he was just testing me, he said dont worry and just took a picture of my id and paid me out.

Thank you for the info! I’m very thankful for you, I was completely unaware of this. Think I’m just gonna let my boss keep them then!

I sold my last cat to a guy off fb marketplace. Probably not exactly legal but they’re not stolen and the money is green so who cares.
collectingsouls@reddit
https://rrcats.com but give me a week or so before fully recommend them, I just sent them mine, if payment comes through as agreed I will let you know. Don’t expect much though, I only got $150 for two, you might get more or less.

The shops I have worked at, there was usually a scrap metal guy who would come through and buy scrap.

Damn. I need one for a Toyota Corolla.
