Since r/askreddit asked, we're all in the same boat...what movie scene was your sexual awakening?
Posted by TomPalmer1979@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 831 comments
It was a fun thread for r/askreddit, but that's people from all ages. You had people awakened by movies from our generation, from the 60s, or from the 2010s. I wanna hear OUR generation's sexual awakening movie scenes!
I'll start. I saw some movies and stuff with nudity as a kid, but nothing truly stands out until my teens. I'm sure there were movies that did it for me (in that thread someone mentioned Blown Away with Nicole Eggert), but the first movie I remember actually being a full-blown awakening was Exit To Eden. I was like 15 yrs old when it came out in 1994. That also sparked my lifelong crush on Dana Delaney.

Oh man I grew up sneaking HBO's Real Sex episodes whenever I could. It was never released on DVD or VHS and HBO basically tried to bury it when they became more family friendly, so it's become lost media. But there are people out there on the internet who have like, collected copies, some decent condition, some horrible VHS rips. I believe all but two episodes have been found, and I have them all on a Plex server.

I got to watch certain segments of Real Sex when a segment was educational, until I started paying for my own cable box.
There had been all kinds of abuse in older generations, and my parents wanted the cycle stopped.
So I was given medical dictionaries, unrestricted library access, and talked through a lot of things before most kids even knew any of it existed. They figured I would also get bored once any curiosity I had about any subject was satisfied.
I never got the, “I’ll explain when you’re older.” I can still be an insufferable know it all

Absolutely red shoe diaries and real sex. I had a TV in my room and basically no restrictions. I’d put the volume super low and watch at night when I thought everyone was asleep. Gripping the remote tightly just in case I heard someone and had to change the channel immediately. Good times.

Oh.. I have a love/hate relationship with Exit to Eden. Made the mistake of renting this with “the fam” thinking it was a funny buddy cop movie with a twist per the commercials. Yeah, no.. that was a humiliating experience. My mom, my aunt, my 40 year old cousin and 16/17 year old me. 😅
Color of Night with Bruce Willis was a pretty interesting movie to watch as a teenage girl.
siiilenttbob@reddit
Ok, I did not expect anyone to mention Color of Night. That movie was THE movie for me. I mean, Bruce Willis' ..."willis" wasn't my deal, but Jane March and Lesley Ann Warren had my attention. The VHS I used to record a copy from HBO got a lot of viewings. 😳🙈

Oh man, I really liked Color of Night as a teenager. I watched it anytime it showed up on HBO or Cinemax. 😅 Pool scene was very interesting. 🙈

I was thinking about the movie recently, so I tried looking it up to see if I could buy it. Apparently Kino Lorber released a 2-disc blu ray set that includes a directors cut too. Unfortunately it was released a few years ago and it's out of print. Copies on eBay are going for waaay too much for a movie like that.

Proud to be an X-Files bisexual. Funnily enough, when I got older and rewatched it, I realized what a total creep ~~Duchovny~~ Mulder was, and now only have the hots for Scully/Anderson.

I don't know that there was a scene. Men don't get objectified/sexualuzed like that very often. But, I remember Robin Hood Prince of Thieves coming out and Christian Slater with his gravely voice and long hair did something to me.
And I remember how much I blushed and was also intrigued when I saw my first penis onscreen in The Piano.
snortwheeze@reddit
Yes Robinhood! Christian Slater... And Kevin Costner coming out of the water and you see his bum. Not to mention it featured the most romantic song of all time by Bryan Adams - music video included at the end of the VHS.
ShowMeYourHappyTrail@reddit
Haha! I didn't care about Kevin and his bum (nice bum as it is). I actually don't think it was his bum, now that I'm thinking about it. I think it was a stunt bum. I was 21 when American pie released. My GF at the time was so confused by how I reacted to Jim and his scramble porn w/ sock
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
Ok about the sock. Where was this idea invented? When my son was a teen, I’d find single crusted up socks in his room and it took me a long time to figure out why (shudders). My step son? I make him throw all his socks in the laundry as I’m not touching them.
It seems like the sock is a long standing uh, method. Is it something that dudes just figure out or is it in some secret scroll?
MasterPhilip@reddit
I always thought going into a sock was just disgusting. I went on folded up toilet paper and then I'd flush it down the toilet.
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
As someone who was unknowingly picking up my son’s dried socks, I totally agree. I just never knew it as a “thing” until I had a teenager myself.
In my best Chris Farley impression, back in my day, people ran one off in the shower or into a tissue.
MasterPhilip@reddit
When I was growing through that phase, I just couldn't comprehend the idea of doing it into a sock and then ever considering wearing that sock again. What comes out is something you want to go away. So, why not make sure it goes onto something you can actually make go away?
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
Exactly. I never shamed my son or step son as that’s a normal biological thing, but gah, not in the socks for me to wash!! It’s gross and disrespectful.
MasterPhilip@reddit
I make the kids do their own laundry.
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
I am glad you do that; it’s a really important parenting moment; one I flubbed terribly. When my kiddos were younger, I did all the cooking, laundry etc. I taught them HOW to do those things but never tasked them as a regular chore.
That wildly backfired when the kids moved out on their own; I was crushed when my distraught daughter texted me about how she had no clue how much work it took to keep everything going in a household. In my attempt to give them an easier life than I had, I handicapped them.
I share this because anyone with younger kids need to equip them with how to balance it all so they don’t grow up and have a total slap into reality.

I don't remember the name of the movie, but I went to the theater with a few older friends once. I couldn't have been 7 or 8. Someone on screen used the word "penis."

Are they deaf? This is pissing me off. "WHAT IS A PENIS?" Everyone still just uncomfortably staring ahead.
I left the theater still not knowing what a penis was.

That's totally okay! Like I said in another post, your sexual awakening is not just like, the first time you saw a naked person or the first time you got aroused. Look through the thread; some of it is a specific person, sure. But some of it is a movement, an attitude, a line, a scene. It doesn't have to be an ass or a body. Just something in a movie that made you realized what really turned you on.

With actual movies, I think Gabrielle Union coming out of the water in Bad Boys 2 was a bisexual tornado siren. I had been so repressed as a child I had to go ask a campus therapist "can you want a boyfriend and a girlfriend? Like both at the same time?"
But yeah I'd been repressing my attraction to women ever since I snuck and watched The Players Club at my friend's house.

I grew up on the Quebec/Ontario border and got some of the French TV channels over the air. One of them played all sorts of European cinema under the name "Bleu Nuit" starting around midnight on Saturdays.
I think that switching channels between Saturday Night Live and softcore porn is probably why I have a thing for women with a sense of humour.

Ghostbusters 2. Seeing Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) in her bra as she bathes her child. I already had a big crush on her before, but that took it to the next level (I mean her being in her bra, not her bathing her baby). I was about 8 at the time

Was a movie on Skinemax called Miracle Beach. I think you could rent it but not buy it. Had boobies and all, but the story for some reason made me feel feelings.
I tried to watch it again since it's attainable now, but oh my lord is it terribad.
Has Mr. Miyagi in it though.

There may have been others, but the one that sticks with me to this day (30-something years later) is Stephen Dorff and Sheryl Lee in Backbeat (and the multiple scenes therein) 🥵

I can't say there was a singular moment; if there was it wasn't from a film nor television for that matter.

Seeing Ann-Margret in Tommy The Movie and then Grumpy Old Men and also the whole Stacy's Mom thing planted the idea in my head that I liked older women. Someone mentioned Billy Idol's Rock The Cradle of Love video, I remember the one for his cover of L.A. Woman being pretty wild too. I was also lucky to get TQS out out Quebec with the softcore movie showcase Bleu Nuit and their short lived hardcore talk show Hot Parade.

It wasn't a movie. MTV messed me up when I was about nine years old, thanks to Vince Neil, Mike Patton, and Bret Michaels. Oddly enough though, I don't like guys with long hair.
