I have been in open-source for \~35 years. I truly love the names we have for projects, even large industry stand ones like HarfBuzz.

Harf means "letter" in Turkish. But if I recall correct the main developer was Persian, and the "harf" was originating from original Persian meaning, which I don't really remember now. It's funny to me everytime I see Harfbuzz, I know what I'm looking at directly.

HarfBuzz means "OpenType" in Persian. Because HarfBuzz was originally an OpenType shaping engine for/extracted from FreeType, go figure.
