After 2.5 yrs of working on this POS every weekend, I finally took my 2JZ-swapped Datsun for some rips

Listen to those 2jz noises! Absolutely in love with how the Datsun sounds with the 2J swap. Only drove it a couple miles so far, can't wait for more! The Apex Engineered suspension feels amazing also.

Congratulations!

Just curious OP, any many others as well, why do people refer to their cars as a POS or a shit box when they clearly aren't? I mean maybe when you started it was, but not any more.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
It def was when I first started and still acts like it when shit doesn't go how i want 😆. Mostly in jest though.
BloodAndWhisky@reddit
BLOK garage? Hell yeah, man, I've been following your build for a long while. Gave me a lot more confidence to just to stuff on mine.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Thanks man. Glad you've found it helpful.
MassholeForLife@reddit
Looks amazing my man. Nice work.
Datsitkinz@reddit
What made you go JZ instead of RB ? both are awesome had one of each myself but I'm just curious.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Mostly i just really wanted to try something JZ. I've done a bunch of LS stuff. I watch a lot of Adam LZ on youtube and i guess it rubbed off me. But also, it's easier to get a JZ and buy parts for them here since RBs were never sold in the US.
Datsitkinz@reddit
Ah makes sense, I think the jz is a smoother feeling motor overall but either way you cant really go wrong.
Ready_Jury6144@reddit
I get that you’ve worked on it for a really long time but you’re doing it wrong.
Why aren’t you overheating, leaking fluids and realizing you forget to connect a bunch of shit?
Looks fucking awesome man. Time well spent!
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
There might be a coolant leak that I can't stop. 🤐
I'll never do AN rad hoses again.
Ready_Jury6144@reddit
lol, if that’s all you’re doing great brother.
I was actually just thinking about doing that. I want to cut my inlet and move it to the pass side to clean things up and I’d go AN.
Did you go -12? Where’s it leaking from?
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
20AN, which is about 1.5". Same as the stock 2J hoses. Leaking from the fittings themselves, where the swivel is. My welds were real shit getting the bungs on the rad but they aren't leaking.
Ready_Jury6144@reddit
Could be shit fittings or warped. I always use some PTFE paste (prob not supposed to) but I’m leak free on all fuel and coolant lines (not rad hose).
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
I didn't have any issues with the smaller AN stuff on the rest of the car. Oil, fuel, coolant to turbo. Just the rad fittings. I might try some paste for the hell of it at this point.
Successful-Ad-3993@reddit
oem hoses, Hose clamps, and braided sleeves for me fuck it lmao
yesjames@reddit
wut wheel and tire fitment is that, it looks pretty sweet

Great job! I love those cars! That first drive had to be amazing
trev1976UK@reddit
Beautiful
Seethesvt@reddit
Nothing in the world beats that feeling of the first drive after a long build.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
The anxiety is a large part of it 😅
Seethesvt@reddit
My first drive of my first project car I blew the trans input shaft seal. That's the worst that happened. My current truck, I welded the whole frame and for the first year, every railroad track crossing and every big bump, I was just waiting for every single weld to fail.
crappyroads@reddit
Haha, the anxiety as I approached first startup and drive was through the roof!
Public-Cod1245@reddit
sounds great.
-Ignorant_Slut-@reddit
Maybe the Datsun was inside you the whole time.
UnderTheFrozenSky@reddit
Love the sound of a lazy V8 but damn the 2jz flutter is incredible. What transmission is it mated to?
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
CD009 with a Fisch Racing Tech adapter.
mrchin12@reddit
This is so sick. Nice work.
Complaint_Manager@reddit
The fact it doesn't sound like you're dragging a string of firecrackers between shifts and deceleration... You're doing it right.
Gatecrasher3@reddit
Has there ever been a 70s-early 2000s Japanese sports car where bold white lettering on the tires DOESN'T look fantastic?
GTVTT@reddit
Looks and sounds amazing. Great job 👍
MontyRapid@reddit
That 3rd rip was sick!
Theperfectool@reddit
The chirp?
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
64% throttle according to the standalone 😬
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Thanks bud
The_Grilled_Cheeze_1@reddit
Aww man....makes me want to do a swap in my Z. Sweet ride!

K21Watzz@reddit
So worth it ! That’s amazing
TheDoubleEntendreGuy@reddit
That sounds amazing. Great work!
Extra kudos to you for doing the first couple of rips at that location.... I would probably have found a place with less immovable trees!
This is a man with confidence in his engineering & driving abilities!
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately no place around here without trees lol. Rural amaine.
berpaderpderp@reddit
This is my dream car. Well done!
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
MrFoolinaround@reddit
I love the z bodies but finding one that isn’t rusted to crap or owner wants 911 prices for it is hard.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
This one was rusted to crap 😥
MrFoolinaround@reddit
Respect to you then. Two things I can’t do are electrical and body work. I got Michael J Fox hands.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
I hadn't really done rust repair, body work, or paint before this. The paint was the worst part for me. Did it all in my tiny garage though. Built myself a rotisserie to help with the rust repair and priming/undercoating the bottom. I'd do more sheet metal work before I volunteered to paint again, its so stressful.
MrFoolinaround@reddit
Brother you built a whole ass rotisserie? I think you’re alright then.
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Yeah that was one of the easier things lol
amg-rx7@reddit
you should check out his youtube channel BLOK

I love seeing this in Reddit because it means another awesome video awaits me this evening
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Have to wait a few more days. Friday!

Been an honor to follow your progress and now see you enjoy it.! Fn rad, thanks for update and be safe out there.

nopester24@reddit
awesome man congrats on completing the build! any lessons learned? anything you'd do different? was it worth it?? was the budget on track or totally blown??
(give the rest of us hope haha!)
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
lol budget. I have a spreadsheet that I don't like to look at.
Honestly, as much as I love the 2J I'd probably just go LS again. Its so much easier and cheaper.
SensualBeefLoaf@reddit
i started making a spreadsheet for one of my builds then was like “yah, yah, this, yah i’m going to stop”
SensualBeefLoaf@reddit
man that little tire chirp.
Ornery_Army2586@reddit
Im just an old school hot rodder / racer. I really dont even care for LS swaps. But your car seems so well executed I have to give you credit for a job well done.
ctlogin@reddit
Yeah man, clean AF, you living the dream.
andrewkpt@reddit
Been watching this since the start here. Glad to see it happen!

audiovox12@reddit
Pretty fucking cool man congrats for making it. I’ve had my 2002 WS6 project car for like 7 months now and I already want to sell it off lol
BuffaloBagel@reddit
wait is that a DATSUN?
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
It's possible.
MadULook@reddit
Love that sound!
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Same. 2Js sound amazing.
ilikeautosdaily@reddit
Interesting swap. I like it.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Phuc yes!
ScreenFresh5776@reddit
Drooling.
Congrats on getting to finally enjoy all the work!
driftking428@reddit
Both the car and the engine are amazing on their own. This is a match made in heaven.
ironafro2@reddit
Awesome!!
Clivesdale@reddit
So sick! Always wanted an old 240z. Has it been dyno tuned? How much power tobthe wheels?
_clever_reference_@reddit (OP)
Nope, I'm gonna be street tuning it. I'll take it to a dyno eventually just to see what it makes. It's running an ECUmaster EMU Black, the base map i got is actually pretty close, i haven't touched it up much yet.
Once-kings@reddit
Absolutely Love it!
Aleutian_Solution@reddit
He’ll yeah
