Such a cool car. I just don't know who they are marketing this to. It's right in the firing line of the Z06.
I've always been a Mustang guy, but given the choice between it and a C8 Z06, I don't see how I opt for the Dark Horse.
taticalgoose@reddit
This is coming from someone who has the cars in my flair and who really wants a C8 Z06 but I could see why some would pick a DH SC over a Z06.
- It'll probably feel faster with instant supercharged big V8 torque. It likely won't actually be faster but do you drive feels or reported 1/4 mile times?
- It'll be significantly more responsive to power mods.
- Average transaction price will likely be at least $10k less than a Z06 which isn't nothing
- Some may believe, correctly or incorrectly, that it'll hold value better than a Z06
- If you're a hardcore mustang guy that can't afford a GTD this is the top of the attainable heap
That being said I'd take a C8 Z06 over a DH SC any day.
photojournalistus@reddit
All good points! The spec'd Z06 I have in my cart is $155K. The spec'd Mustang SC is topping out at $110K. That's a fair distance. I was on the fence between the Z06 and the SC, and I think I'm leaning heavily toward the SC for many of the reasons you stated.

They now believe Mustang customer base like Corvette customer base, they believe Mustang boomers would glad to pay more with it.
F2007KR@reddit
There’s plenty of Mustang boomers out there. I know plenty of retired folks who buy multiple Mustangs and take them to car shows and whatnot. They don’t really care about the price hikes, they made their money. Fuck them kids. Something something bootstraps.
HxofNx@reddit
Mustang boomers like the old Mustang look, they’ll pay for a restored 1972 or Eleanor clone, not an overpriced dark horse. I like the dark horse, but it’s not a 100k car by any imagination. 100k+ is Shelby territory.
Vhozite@reddit
Anecdotally talking to people irl and going on different Mustang boards these last few years it seems more and more the Mustang is becoming a car popular with older people and less popular with younger folks. Most younger ppl into cars are more interested in BMWs or the twins. The ones not into cars seem to like Teslas.
Again just my experience
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
I dont think it meant to compete with the Vette at all. Sure the GTD maybe but not the rest. I feel like this current gen mustang is meant to take the fight to cars like the M3
Mother____Clucker@reddit
Which hurts it even more, in my opinion. This is $30,000 more than an M3.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
People make M3/Mustang comparisons all the time but I just don't see it. In straight spec sheet performance comparisons? Sure. But in terms of buyers? The people buying Mustangs are just entirely different people than those buying M3/4s IMO.
randeus@reddit
Why make the corvette comparison then? People buying Mustangs arguably aren’t the same people buying corvettes either.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
I didn't, but I think that's a mixed bag - Ford certainly positions high performance mustangs as competitors to Corvettes, at least historically (less so with the C8). Ford's lack of a dedicated two seater sports car platform means the Mustang pulls double duty as the entry level fun car and top end performer.
randeus@reddit
Yes and that puts it more in line with an M car than a Corvette. As a Mustang driver who needs the space, I’d look at an M car before a Corvette.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Brother, second time in a row, I didn't compare it to a corvette. Are you just reading what you wanna read to debate someone online here or what?
Yes, it traditionally was cross shopped with other american v8 four seat coupes, there's not a lot of those left. Seems like you're searching for an argument where there is none lol.
randeus@reddit
Nah, that wasn’t my intention. The corvette comparison was just a reference to the original post of the comment thread.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
standard dark horse does a good job against the M3, i was mainly talking M3 comps lol
Nick2102@reddit
I think the naming hurts it. There would be plenty more hype if it wore a Shelby badge or was a Cobra or Boss. I’m excited to see the lap times as they said they have taken many learnings from the gt3 program and the gtd.
SecretPantyWorshiper@reddit
I think they'd more hype of it wasn't the same 5.2L from the GT500 lol
Nick2102@reddit
That too. As much as I like the predator, I would like to see them bring back the voodoo with gen 4 revisions
Nero_Wolff@reddit
Was there a gen3 voodoo?
Nick2102@reddit
Technically, no. There was a gen 2 revised voodoo in 18-19 that followed throughout the rest of its life. The revision targeted the oil consumption issues that the gen 1 had
SecretPantyWorshiper@reddit
Yep. We just saw GM do it with the C8 CS. Ford has no excuses especially with the rollback of the V8 emissions.
Nick2102@reddit
I think it’s a mix of laziness and if it isn’t broke, why fix it. Sucks. A new voodoo with dual throttle bodies would be so sick to see
randeus@reddit
Not seeing cars as a specc sheet for one, the DH SC, going by the previous GT500 and GTD, is probably a complete riot to drive and has plenty of soul. Front engine, supercharged v8 muscle gives a totally different feel than what the Z06 offers. Is the SC too expensive? Yeah. Will there be plenty of people who buy it over a C8 Z06? Probably. People point out this car is too expensive compared to a Z06, but are we forgetting that there are performance cars well into the six digits that look like a bad performance bargain to it?
ALaLaLa98@reddit
Honestly, is there a performance car that seems like good value compared to a C8?
Mother____Clucker@reddit
You're not wrong. The C8 is hard to beat in performance:price.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
dont get the hate for this car. 795 horsepower at 102k. I mean like yeah that is expensive but 795 horsepower at 102k is a "bargain" considering the M3 which is similarily priced and consider a performance bargain has way less horsepower
Ghandisoft@reddit
Raw horsepower per dollar isn’t the only metric. Otherwise every built Hellcat would automatically be a better car than a GT3. Mustangs were never known to be unaffordable and after mark up a desired package of this car will easily be in the high 1s to low 200s.
photojournalistus@reddit
The 2026 Mustang SC, as spec'd in my preferred build, is pricing out at $110K (i.e., without carbon-brakes and carbon-fiber wheels). The Z06 is pricing out at $155K in the configurator, as spec'd. I was planning on an Emira ($117K MSRP), but the 25% tariff made Lotus halt all US imports.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
im not saying that, im saying that based on the power and how the standard dark horse drives, its kinda of a "bargain" compared to other cars that drives similarilly but with less horsepower
Ghandisoft@reddit
That’s fair. But I doubt people will be cross shopping these and m3s they will probably end up being in 2 different tax brackets lmao. I love the sc but its gonna be stupid expensive.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
Feel like the normal dark horse is meant to be against the M3/M4 with more horsepower, better driving and faster on track. My guess is this is going for the M3/M4 CS and Comps. Overall ford is going for the M3/M4 market with the mustang which im all for. I except this cars price to drop heavenly once the Camaro and Charger/Challenger duo return in 2028
Ghandisoft@reddit
Yeah forsure. Im for the new era of mustang forsure. Seeing them compete with euros on nurb is pretty crazy. It would be pretty cool to see a handling version of the charger or challenger aswell doubt it will happen but you never know.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
charger and challenger handle better than people give them credit for the biggest issue is the weight, I hope the new one will have the same dumbassery and power of the old one with the suspension, weight and handling of a euro car. On the other hand based on the M5 im also excepting the charger hellcat in 2028 to weigh 6K pounds minimun.
Ghandisoft@reddit
Oh its gonna be a true yacht this time around. I love me some charger. I got to drive a buddy’s hellcat at wolf pen gap. And it wasn’t horrible. I just couldn’t get that front end to commit, im sure the insane weight of the engine doesn’t help.
SecretPantyWorshiper@reddit
Cool car but $110k for this? Lol Id rather have the F150 Raptor R or the C8Z06
DJeezuss@reddit
Huh? A GT500 with CFTP easily cleared 115K.
TexasArachnid@reddit
It's trash. Ford dealers ti boost sales offer a 9k supercharger package wich gets you..Wait..800hp. They make it look like a ZL1 and they want to charge 150k....Uhhhhh no. Only the foolish will fall for this.
USS-Hellcat@reddit
I understand they lost the licensing rights for the Shelby nameplate but man... why couldn't they call it something cooler like a Cobra or Boss? It's wild how expensive these things have gotten. I remember when Hellcats and ZL1s were in the mid-60k range. Hell I got my current Hellcat brand new in '24 for 66k.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Did they lose it? I was under the impression that Ford consciously decided to drop the nameplate to save costs. To be fair, reports were that the charge was something like $800 per vehicle, so definitely not nothing, but I hadn't heard that Ford "lost" it per se.
USS-Hellcat@reddit
You could be right and I might be misinterpreting it.
GermanCommentGamer@reddit
According to animations visible in the pre production unit during the original unveil the SC actually was called "Dark Horse Boss" at first. Which is way better imo
Umbra427@reddit
Dark Boss Hoss Honse
Capri280@reddit
Boy am I glad that didn't come to pass. Not a big fan of the name "Dark Horse", but "Dark Horse Boss" sounds even worse
Lucreth2@reddit
My head cannon is they saw how fugly the front end is and couldn't bear the thought of putting such a legendary name to it.
USS-Hellcat@reddit
Yeah I have seen one in person and the front end is pretty ugly on them. I don't live too far from the Mustang plant and was it coming down the freeway on the opposite side and I wondered what it was and thought the front looked like a Lego car. Then as it got closer I realized it was a Dark Horse SC.
Lucreth2@reddit
Yup!! It looks like a bad aftermarket front fascia and hood. I really have no idea what they're doing over there because a mustang GT with the performance pack and a set of wheels is the best looking of the lineup.
Training-Expert5598@reddit
Because those nameplates hold little to no significance among modern drivers under 60. Same with Shelby. They were smart to create fresh performance trims, even if reddit gets butthurt about it.
RunGlad6364@reddit
Relatable significance has nothing to do with it, dark horse just sounds bad

Seeker80@reddit
Very cool. It'd be interesting to see if there are any revisions planned, or an additional model.
A bit like how there was the S197 GT500 & GT500KR. A 'Dark Horse SC Competition' with a bit more power and a couple of GTD-inspired bits or slight weight reduction would be cool.
Would be nice if the standard GTD was making 850hp or so, allowing more room for a hotter Dark Horse SC down the line. Manufacturers have made upgrades available retroactively to customers before, so it wouldn't be a stretch if Ford decided to turn up the GTD a bit more. For example, Harry Metcalfe of Harry's Garage fame, took his early Zonda S in for service and got a couple of parts from newer Zondas(ex: new intake) installed.
Sebsibus@reddit
Is there any new information on whether this car will be coming to Europe?
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
It comes with gas gullzer tax, so it means its fuel emission not going to pass your strict Euro spec. Ford can't sell it in Europe.
They can bring GTD in Europe because it's belonged as an exotic car.
Sebsibus@reddit
Dammit
Tony-cums@reddit
Have a Durango hellcat. That power isn’t usable on the road. It’s stupid how quickly it gets there too. Few seconds and you’re in triple digits and reckless driving territory.
Selling mine after 1k miles.
Nero_Wolff@reddit
This why imo GT350 > GT500 unless youre a dedicated track rat… at which case a well setup corvette would likely demolish both
Tony-cums@reddit
I’m getting downvoted by dorks who have never had one. Amazing. It’s like they want people to drive crazy on the same streets as them.
Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy@reddit
That’s exactly why I sold my Blackwing.
Tony-cums@reddit
I like those too. But there’s just no where to safely use all that power. It’s dumb after like a 400 hp truck.
Sad_Cumme@reddit
Small car fast
TrueSwagformyBois@reddit
And let me guess. The stock tire is the US spec ling macho - mucho long collaboration tire, in a perfect all-season tread block from Michelin but made out of a 75% silica rubber compound, ensuring the least grip possible.
apoctank@reddit
You're thinking of the RTR
TrueSwagformyBois@reddit
Lol you caught the reference!! Nice!
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
Insteading guessing, you could've just googled it and found they come with Pirelli P Zero Rs or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs for the Track Pack.
TrueSwagformyBois@reddit
Lol. Other people being sarcastic and making crash comments get their, and I put effort into my Mustang slander, and get downvotes. Note to self, Mustang enjoyers a) not a very humorous crowd and b) Mustang enjoyers don’t appreciate more than minimum effort. I think I knew the second one because they’re already in mustangs! ;) lol
costafilh0@reddit
As a wise man once said:
There’s no arguing with a boner.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
My question is how close can you get to this with a standard dark horse & a ford performance supercharger (w warranty)
randeus@reddit
810 hp and 615 lb-ft according to website. The downside is that whipples heat soak like crazy without supporting mods and Ford absolutely won’t provide any.
UnnamedStaplesDrone@reddit
800hp on pump gas with no supporting mods. Thats not a recipe for disaster right?
Training-Expert5598@reddit
Does it matter though if you have the warranty? It can be frustrating waiting on repairs, but they aren't on your dime if you cya.
UnnamedStaplesDrone@reddit
yes it does matter, because the powertrain warranty is only like 36k miles iirc. coyote engines are like 15k, not chump change.
Training-Expert5598@reddit
Nobody that buys that car is keeping three years. They either sell it, don't touch it and stick it in a garage, or they wrap it around a tree within six months.
UnnamedStaplesDrone@reddit
you're probably right. coming from an enthusiast who wants to keep cars for a while, it's definitely not for me.
randeus@reddit
Yeah, but one would hope somebody is also planning to install the bare minimum supporting mods for a non-abused car (cooling, injectors, fuel pump, suspension, upgraded clutch, great tires, etc.) if they plan on supercharging their Mustang in the first place.
Either way, it’s not Ford’s responsibility.
uberdosage@reddit
Yea, there is a lot more to this car than just its hp.
It's a gt500 vs a s550 gt with a Whipple. A depressing amount of mustang owners really only know hp though...
