Tobacco companies should make cigarettes healthier, so their customers live longer, thus providing greater revenue

why do you think they are selling snus/zyn too??
unrealisedpotential@reddit
Not healthy! They ruin your gut biome and cause serious GI problems. I’ve read reports about links to gum cancer.
The fact Big Tobacco is in this market and are selling these as alternatives to cigarettes instead of as a smoking cessation product is highly problematic. I’m sure they contain higher nicotine content & are designed to allow nicotine absorption to be much higher and therefore more addictive.
Useful_Calendar_6274@reddit
Gum cancer is only for snus. I tried both and I think the slow release makes it less addictive. but I don't have an addictive personality either way, I dropped both no problem
unrealisedpotential@reddit
I’m actually in the process of quitting all nicotine. But personally speaking, I was addicted to cigarettes for 10 years and the only way I weaned myself off was substituting my nicotine vehicle from cigs to pouches.
But the pouches ended up becoming its own addiction and the cravings were far worse than cigarettes. I’m now 2 weeks off the stuff and finding my stomach issues have lessened but I seriously worry people picking pouches/zyn/snus up first time.
plura15D@reddit
I think the GI issues are mostly/also present with nicotine in other forms, but snus has the added problem of users using way more nicotine and maybe the drip ending in the stomach?
It was really stupid, because I stopped smoking, and then after I was clean I started snus, just to pick up smoking again because of said GI issues resulting in strong headaches.
ryanderkis@reddit
What if they just told you they were healthy instead?
Pfizermyocarditis@reddit
Maybe they could fund the medical industry to push this talking point.

Mundane-Caregiver169@reddit
Why don’t we do that in the US? We’re so backwards.
Madixaphlopin@reddit
There are cigarettes that are basically like smoking plants with a tobacco flavour. Sadly enough i can't get them here. Shame.. But def. not a 'crazy' idea..
Rocktopod@reddit
Do they also add nicotine?
Madixaphlopin@reddit
No
Rocktopod@reddit
That doesn't seem like it would be very popular.
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Btw, you can also vape nicotine. No tar or carcinogenics. Just vaporised oil. Make sure the oil is VG (plant based) and the heat doesn't exeed 360 F..
Nate_Christ@reddit
That's glycerine in your lungs
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Yea, that's what the vG stands for. You are welcome to fill your longues with something else You could also make a case agaist glycerine. Before you do that though, check the poisons on tabacco first. Glycerine, an alcohol based oil will fail in comparison..
Nate_Christ@reddit
300 years of study vs 20 years, I mean we would know more about what makes tobacco bad for you. I mean just because we know less about vaping doesn't mean it's worse, but it definitely doesn't mean it's better. Also alcohol based? I thought the glycerine came from sponification, and it's not an oil
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Look up the chemical composition of glycerine. (benzene). While doing so you might notice (having reseached the toxins in a cigarette) that tobacco is the worst of the evils. We can keep talking chemicals or you can trust me. I have been researching this for 20yrs now. OK, no comparison with 300yrs BUT.. 300yrs ago, how effective were they at studying harmful effects or toxins..(don't underestimate the industry) ? These days some of us are better informed to make an analysis..
Nate_Christ@reddit
Glycerine is a single molecule, it's composition is glycerine. By research I mean original research, not what we're doing. It's clear to any chemist reading neither of us are "educated." 300 years ago we could tell some things, you don't need to understand the philosophy of science to know smokers cough more, and that it physically hurts to smoke. And the chemicals in tobacco, yeah there's like 30 and they all do different things to different systems, but we haven't even gone through a whole human lifespan with vaping. This all comes down to nothing if we know in 80 years the average lifespan of a smoker is more/less than a vaper. Science and works made using it are best studied with logic, not just reading it to feel smarter (condescending ellipsis)
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Pardon me. First, i never said glycerine not or more than a molecule. We can go into atoms? Next up and i beg your pardon again! What is your point. Take in mind the original statement. Are we just being verbose?
Nate_Christ@reddit
My only point is we don't know which is worse and won't for a long time. Talking about original statements "That's glycerine in your lungs" is a reference to an ad where a guy says "that's metal in your lungs". I was memeing and we just went off the deep end. I'm just the type of person who can argue for no reason, and it got heated. My point was seriously just that we don't know, if I had to bet it would be vaping is safer especially considering they don't just put tobacco in pre-rolleds. Also I was not just being verbose about that science bit, though I did say it rudely. I think it's important to use the concept of science and it's products carefully. Reddit isn't good for people, I'm gonna go outside. Sorry about being a dick
Madixaphlopin@reddit
The amount of carcinogens in a decent Vape compared to cigarettes is little to zero. You migh as well compare an elephant and the parasite in a mosquitoe.
Questo417@reddit
Nicotine is itself carcinogenic… so yes, it has carcinogens. Fewer, but still present
Substantial_Back_865@reddit
They’re not

? 🤔
Madixaphlopin@reddit
You would be amazed.
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Not for those not wanting to get rid of their nicotine addiction. Or those that realise they have it.. There is only help for those that want it..

Check the Netherlands, possibly Amsterdam online. It ain't cheap.
c0147@reddit
I believe you’re talking about nicotine vapes
SummertimeThrowaway2@reddit
Vape companies tried this. Turns out inhaling stuff that isn’t air is still bad for you even if it’s just vapor
Pheonyxxx696@reddit
Try telling that to pot heads. They’ll argue left and right about how good weed is, yet inhaling something burning isn’t something the body is designed to do
SummertimeThrowaway2@reddit
lol I am a pot head. It has its benefits and its drawbacks
bootyprincess666@reddit
idk. i smoked cigarettes for a long time. i’ve been vaping for ten years on and off and recently had a chest xray that was “perfect” and my respiratory system is in perfect working order as it should be.
Pheonyxxx696@reddit
My great grandfather smoked for 70 years and lived to 98 years old. There’s also outliers for everything. Granted, cigarettes definitely are unhealthier today than they were in the 60’s and prior. When they began adding extra chemicals to make it easier for the body to absorb nicotine, thus making cigarettes far more addictive
SummertimeThrowaway2@reddit
There are outliers to every spectrum
bootyprincess666@reddit
very true but i do think the negative effects of smoking cigarettes are way worse even just physically the impacts are drastically different.
MadlibVillainy@reddit
The difference in the health effect is huge between the two , I don't know why redditors keeps going on about " huh it's still terrible for you ". Yeah no shit inhaling anything is worse than not doing it , but comparing the health effect from vaping to smoking and grouping them makes no sense.
And yes we do have enough insight even if vaping is more recent , because even a few years of smoking start to do some serious damage , vaping not so much.

Tobacco and nicotine aren't unhealthy. Tar on the other hand

This is the whole reason why cigarettes have filters
Silent-Hyena9442@reddit
There have been many attempts. Different filters, different tobacco, e-cigs, vapes, smokeless tobacco, nicotine pouches, etc
The problem is nicotine and tobacco in general still aren’t good for you but in general there are plenty of healthier ways to get nicotine than a smoking a cigarette.
traumahawk88@reddit
Nicotine isn't the problem. It's the tar and carcinogens in the smoke.
Nicotine is known to benefit, and is being researched for proper formal usage in treating, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ADHD, and other conditions.
Problem with getting nic from smoking is you die, which negates the neurological benefits
Kazodex@reddit
Nicotine is also associated with delayed/reduced healing of wounds. My oral surgeon wouldn’t fix my teeth until after I had quit
traumahawk88@reddit
Vasoconstrictors all do so that was a good call.
Also, dry socket sucks. Common among smokers after oral surgery.
It was the most painful thing I'd experienced until kidney stones. Which still holds the most painful thing, even over gall bladder attacks (which, while agonizing, didn't make me lose consciousness like kidney, so bumped to #2 ahead of dry socket)
medicated_cornbread@reddit
You say this like the owners of the companies aren't also involved in pharma companies and Healthcare.
They literally poison you, sell you the treatment, and then you die.
BigSweatyMen_@reddit
Insane take ☠️☠️☠️ I read this crazy idea post and thought to myself "this is the inverse of the idiots who say hospitals want to keep you sick so they keep getting paid" and here they are agreeing with it 😂
medicated_cornbread@reddit
Dude philip Morris literally used to have ownership stakes in Pfizer.
Big tobacco companies also have huge stakes in anti smoking stuff as well as inhaler and asthma devices.
You really dont even Google shit before you form opinions. Also its so fucking weird to stick up for big tobacco companies without having any knowledge on the subject.
Idiot.
BigSweatyMen_@reddit
Source? Investopedia says "The three top individual/insider shareholders in Pfizer are Albert Bourla, Douglas Lankler, and Chris Boshoff. The three top institutional shareholders are Vanguard Group, BlackRock, and State Street." And I can't find any links about PMI having Pfizer stocks.
My comment stands up only for the medical industry - interesting that you read into it that I love big tobacco.
Furthermore, whats wrong with tobacco companies having anti smoking ads or inhaler/ asthma devices? If I sold beer and hangover cures. I'm not selling the beer to make you buy more hangover cures, it's the other way around 😂 I want it to be easier to drink a lot. Just like tobacco companies want it to be easier to be addicted to smoking so they sell asthma stuff I guess.
CoolGuy54@reddit
This is vaping, snus, smokeless tobacco, etc.
TurtleFisher54@reddit
The issue is the heat from smoking is the worst part of a cigarette
That plus how often they are used
you are just burning your lungs to death and coating them in ash
Best_Opening8471@reddit
The real issue is the perservitities in the tobacco.
Tailor mades are made with tobacco that is 5-7 years old.
When I grow my own and smoke it with filters my filters dont turn black with tar like the store bought cigs.
High_Hunter3430@reddit
Also including that tobacco is a bitch plant that is susceptible to so many pests and plant disease. In commercial applications, that means pesticides and other treatments.
At home, YOU know what you’re willing to spray. (In my case, only water and enzyme based)
It’s safe to assume the warning label on cigarettes is more about the variety of chemical sprays and less about the actual tobacco.
Best_Opening8471@reddit
I grew mine organic, and while it was a pain to start the seeds once they cracked the shell I couldn't stop them from growing.
Literally took over my weed patch
High_Hunter3430@reddit
I’m sure that definitely helped. 🤘 glad you’ve had good luck so far!
Best_Opening8471@reddit
Wish me luck with this year, I'm hoping to get seeds in the dirt by the end of the week now that we are hitting 20c
spoospoo43@reddit
Because sticking burning things in your mouth is ever going to be healthy.
Yup767@reddit
Healthier not healthy
brocazaria@reddit
Why? All they need to do is blame underfunded public healthcare and seed oils and they can make them as poisonous as they want.
ggrieves@reddit
In fact they did the opposite.
Someone looked at the exhaust from a truck engine and said "If we take a fuel injector and a glow plug and run nicotine through it I bet people will breathe it" and now we have vapes.
Nannyphone7@reddit
I knew a PhD chemist who worked for Phillip Morris. Her job there was to "Optimize the Addiction Curve".
There are entry-level tobacco products, mid-level kiddie tobacco products, and so on up to the hard-core tobacco products that would knock an elephant on its ass.
Your job is to set the level of nicotine for each product to get the most people addicted as possible.
She quit that job due to her "ethical concern".
AelixD@reddit
I can’t imagine that there is any heated particulate matter that you can put in your lungs and be healthier for it.
goingtoburningman@reddit
Ive hoped for a 5th Element type cig wver since the movie came out. 6-10 drags most of the time is all I needed
walkabout16@reddit
Given air pollution rates, they could make a killing if the physical act of smoking inherently purified the air you breathe. Or maybe even concentrating the oxygen content. Little micro doses of O2 would be a slight buzz for a lot of people.
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Did you know that the addictive in cigarettes-nicotine- is water-soluble. So wet them and smoke them when dried. The tar in them will still be harmful but the addictive effect lessens. That plus some strenght of character 👍
Best_Opening8471@reddit
Using your theory where the addictive agent is water soluble then drying it would concentrate the addictive agent by removing the mass of water its dissolved in
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Recheck your facts.
Best_Opening8471@reddit
I misread your post and assumed you were drying fresh tobacco
I didn't see that you were washing it first.
Also til that nicotine is a polar molecule
Madixaphlopin@reddit
Washing Before drying. Basically just soaking it in water and let it naturally dry..
Best_Opening8471@reddit
Don't need to.
Your procedure is flawed
Removing water from water soluble things is how we make "concentrates" like juice and shatter.
Happily-Incorrect@reddit
Wouldn't that just mean you'd end up smoking more because you're not getting what you need from them?
Madixaphlopin@reddit
We're talking physical addiction. The 'addictive' part is eliminated.. You might indeed want to add Dopamine in your system when resolved at quitting.. The whole process is meant for that. But if you just want to keep on smoking (psychologically addicted) removing the nicotine serves no point.
