Do we have renaissance fairs in the UK?

Basically as the question asks. I know we have reinactments and historical RP here in the uk stuff but I only have a wizard costume and I'm not looking to get huge into accurate historical cosplaying. Just in the mood for something with a more relaxed atmosphere like where I've seen people go as elves or goblins or whatever.

Maybe look into Fantasy Forest for next year. I know a few LARPers who are very wizardy and go to LARP events as wizard characters so maybe look into if your area has a latp group you can join?

Yes, Society for Creative Anachronism and LARPing events both exist.

Less wizardly and more historic

And then you have the hard-core re-enactmenters where you get told of if you wear cotton.

In a similar vein there are Medieval festivals. I’ve been to Englands Medieval Festival in the south east which was good fun.

One thing that’s always bugged me is that 99% of the time when Americans have a “renaissance fair” they actually mean “medieval fair”.

Plus fairies and other magical creatures for some reason. I feel like ours are more historically accurate. Maybe less fun!

and don't forget the Camelot theme park we used to have 30 years ago complete with daily jousts to watch!

Hijacking the post to ask if anyone knows of a good one coming to Northern Ireland?

Our local town has re-enactors perform on events like May day in full 17th century costumes, in a purpose buolt village of the same period. Not quite medieval but certainly more accurate.
Little Woodham village for those interested in seeing old English customs

I've never been, but heard Fantasy Forest mentioned as a UK equivalent.

Also depending what your wizard costume is like, you might wanna try LARP? Although it's not the same, there are lots of options for LARP in the UK and for me it scratches the itch that I get from wishing I could go to a ren faire.

Definetely sounds like fantasy forest is the type of thing they're looking for. It isnt fantasy specific, I see lots of sci-fi and video game type cosplay there as well. Always surreal to walk past the cheltenham train station opposite a hoard of cosplayers waiting for a bus but they're 1000% better than people there for the races.

Barnet has one.

There’s a huge one in Tewkesbury - https://www.tewkesburymedievalfestival.co.uk/

Are you thinking of live action roleplay?
That exists here. I was once sat in a pub and got to watch a orc war happening on the playing field opposite.

Are you sure it wasn't Sunday Leauge?

Now, there is a sentence, I never expected to read :-)

More of a medieval one, but it is Glastonbury 😂 https://www.glastonburyabbey.com/whats-on/special-events/glastonbury-abbey-medieval-fayre-6.php

World’s Edge Fantasy Fayre is a new one in Essex: https://www.worldsedgefayre.co.uk/
goldenhawkes@reddit
Yep, there’s new ones starting up, Breock renfare is a new one in the south west.
There’s LARPs which can just be dressing up and vibes and not all hitting people with swords etc, depending on the LARP
