Should I trade in 2026 Subaru Outback Premium for a 2026 Tesla Y?

Buyers remorse with 2026 Subaru Outback Premium and now want a Tesla Y
I just purchased a brand new 2026 Subaru Outback premium a few days ago. The only cars I’ve had in my lifetime were Honda accords. My Honda accord got totaled so had to buy a new car ASAP. I was so shaken up by my accident that I wanted the safest car possible so the next accident, I can walk away alive with minimal injures.
Subarus and Volvos were the highest rated in safety from my research. I chose Subaru because they’re affordable. Yes, I test drove before buying but lowkey was an impulse decision since I really needed a car in the moment. I felt underwhelmed with the technology. I had higher expectations.
My touch screen started lagging a day after and my car play couldn’t connect for a few hours which pissed me off. No, it wasn’t user error. I was connected before and it just disconnected me. I did reset my phone but still couldn’t connect. It randomly connected a few hours later. I don’t want to keep dealing with this especially with a 2026 car.
My friend has a 2024 Subaru crosstrek and her screen lags really badly.
Also, I just want a self driving car and a high tech car. I know people hate Elon but can we disregard politics in this matter and just compare car to car, please? 2026 Subaru Outback premium vs 2026 Tesla Y.
I understand I will lose money if I switch to a tesla since I just bought my outback.
Any advice will be appreciated.

If you're having issues with electronics Tesla is not the car for you.
Necessary-Carrot2839@reddit
Well first off, self driving cars are a scam and dangerous Second off, you’ll be buying a car from a taxi at POS Third off, Subaru is a better vehicle
MaximumDerpification@reddit
I would not do this. It will be a terrible financial decision. Whether you sell the Subaru or trade it in, you are going to get cooked on the deal.
As for the Carplay issue... stupid question, but have you paired multiple devices to the infotainment? We had a problem with the Android Auto/Apple Carplay system in my wife's Mazda that was solved by deleting all devices from it, forgetting the connection on our devices, and re-pairing her device only.

Only my phone has been paired since buying the car. Thanks for the advice on the infotainment!

Monetarily, you are going to take a bath on the Subaru. Then Teslas have horrible resale value. You will be at least 10k upside down on the Subaru, more if you trade it in. If you buy a new Tesla, you will be $15k upside down as soon as you drive off the lot.
If nothing else look for a slightly used Tesla.

I would keep a Subaru over tesla any day of the week... 🙃

Model Y is miles ahead from the Subaru, no matter what EV haters say. Go for the Model y.

Check with your state. Some power companies are giving away chargers and charging a flat rate so you could possibly save hundreds on gas costs per month to run and charge your car.
Galromir@reddit
Trading in a new car right away is going to be a fair sized hit financially; only you can decide if you’re ok with that.
I wouldn’t buy a model Y though. You should test drive a Zeekr 7X instead.

Your biggest chunk of depreciation is right after you drive it off of the lot. Most vehicles lose 20-30% of their value as soon as they go from new to used regardless of miles.
RLBeau1964@reddit
Main reason for no, is financial.
How ever, you aren’t near comparing apples to apples.
1) Have you considered new impact of charging vehicle suv’s gas? For EV cost effectiveness, must charge at home.
2) Is 300 mile range an issue? How about trips?
3) Did you get Outback for higher clearance, rugged, off-road ability?
This may end up being one of the worst decisions you could make, it will take time to recover from the financial impact and you’ll question that cost every time you need money.
Trading a vehicle over car play, just isn’t a justifiable reason.

Fuck no. If you wanna get a new car, by all means - but a Tesla is a pisspoor decision.
Plato2026@reddit
Best selling car in the world, most reliable and well designed battery tech, safest vehicles on the road, tech that's second to none. Then there's all the gains of an EV as well: no oil changes, far more reliable than ICE vehicles, no $100+ gas fill up's, always waking up to a full tank, etc.
Clegko@reddit
I never said anything against EVs, to be clear.
A Tesla is a bad purchase because the tech is years behind other manufacturers, the platforms are ancient, the interior build quality is shit and there's squeaks and rattles everywhere after barely 10k miles. It's just a bad car for the money.
DetectiveNarrow@reddit
Exactly. Maybe 7 years ago I’d agree. But now the others have caught up and passed Tesla. Shit Tesla should be glad Chinese EVs aren’t allows to be sold here in the US.
Crafty_Fisherman@reddit
You clearly have a personal vendetta against the company and are failing to view them objectively
Clegko@reddit
I don't have anything against Tesla, as a company. I want them to make better cars because they are, for better or worse, the benchmark the public uses to judge EVs.
Plato2026@reddit
Tell me again that you've never driven a Tesla, let alone owned one.
DetectiveNarrow@reddit
There’s better EVs now. Politics aside. Still fuck em. They also depreciate like rocks so you’re just further digging a hole by trading in for something that depreciates way worse than an Outback. But it also sounds like you have some issues with impulsive decisions. Stop that.

Reddit is a magnet for people that cant seem to grow up.
Canelosaurio@reddit
Do not the Tesla
NeedleGunMonkey@reddit
Stop making impulse decisions.

You may have a grace period in your contract to give the Subaru back. Model Y would fit your bill regarding FSD and tech. No gas is an added bonus, especially while gas keeps increasing with no end in sight. Be warned though, this is Reddit. It's a cesspool of lefties who will attack you based on Tesla being owned by Musk.

Tesla has its own problems with tech and horrible build quality.
Busy_Account_7974@reddit
You might want to check what the insurance is gonna cost you on the Elon mobile before you buy.
jrileyy229@reddit
You have a warranty, take it back to the dealer... Maybe there's an update... Or at least get it "on record" that it won't connect.
Get a GoPro and start documenting on video when these things happen.
If you gather enough evidence and have enough dealer visits, you have a chance to lemon law it and get all your money back without eating a big loss
