This article about Genx is just bad and inaccurate

This is a terrible article that I feel was written by AI from what they have gleaned from the Internet about us.
ratmash@reddit
Er, yes we did. Just because it has evolved quite a bit since then does not mean it wasn't there in some form or another. And who do you think CREATED the tech you claim we didn't grow up with.
jt2ou@reddit
Yes!!!! We were the analog to digital generation.
chdude3@reddit
LOL yeah WTF? I have to show my parents AND my kids how to connect to the printer.

It literally says that at the end of the article:

Weak.
GigabitISDN@reddit
Haha - here's a list of things the article claims are "bad" about Gen X. For anyone else who doesn't want to give MSN the traffic over such a spectacularly bad article:
Just a side note, MSN usually just republishes content from other sites. That's fine for bypassing paywalls and ads but it also means that MSN ranks New York Times, New York Post, and freehealth4u.saynotovaccines.5gtruth.info.ru as equally reputable sources.

Do younger generations identify as their jobs? That seems more like Boomers and older generations. Those days are over! The youngest Boomers are in their 60s now.
Trolkarlen@reddit
So Gen Xers are independent, resourceful, and fair minded. I can see why that would be problematic for modern corporations.

This reads like it was written by a Millennial who is sick of being the butt of all the Gen-Z kids' jokes.
miteycasey@reddit
I’d say it’s about 80% correct and 1/2 that can be said about all people working in a corporation.
BrookSidhe@reddit
The article title is clickbait. The actual 7 points for the most part (not all) are complimentary to Gen X and true.
The conclusion: “Gen X habits might seem outdated or even irritating at times, but they're often rooted in personal responsibility, balance, and practicality. These traits can help you shift your mindset, take ownership of your time and finances, and make smarter money moves.”
Simple_Shake_5345@reddit
This is a stupid article. It generalizes an entire generation based on the bad tendencies, habits of a few.
BillMaleficent9400@reddit
I’m currently training two gen z new hires… I can’t count how many times I’ve asked them to complete a task, the same task as previously asked and they completely disregard any guidance. “You will never perform better using a chat gpt prompt.”
not-a-regular-mom@reddit
I don’t understand why you’d post it then? If it’s “bad and inaccurate”, why give it any traction?
La_Mano_Cornuta@reddit
I can’t believe they put out this slop I’m about to repost in case you missed it.

While some of that is true many people that aren't GenX are the same way, it's called a personality. Micro-managing, working independently, and skepticism, aren't generational traits.
While I prefer face to face when possible, I work from home now and Slack works just fine.
TheRateBeerian@reddit
I def agree with some of it.
I never ask for help. This has not always been a great thing for my career however.
I'm very hands off and don't like to praise others much. Again, maybe hasn't been the greatest trait for my career.
What I disagree with is that my job isn't just a job, my career has definitely become probably the biggest component of my identity.
mrslipple@reddit (OP)
I am working on this since I am going to retire soon and need to identify with something else.
Strong_Medium_6646@reddit
I never ask for help either, unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Enge712@reddit
So many of these articles are just sloped together clickbait AI
Sagemode1245@reddit
Agreed, I hate these articles.
AdventurousExpert217@reddit
Did you actually read the article? Or just the headline? Yes, it sounds AI generated, but it hits on several well-known characteristics of our generation - ones we talkabout here regularly - and translates them to the younger generations, explaining the benefits of figuring things out for yourself without constant praise, looking at all sides of an issue before making a decision, and limiting screen time.
mrslipple@reddit (OP)
Well, I have no issue asking for help, hell my genx buddies and I tackle big projects together all the time. Praise? I give my teammates and employees praise all the time. Work life balance. I am getting better at that with age. Devil's advocate? OK guilty.
Fritzo2162@reddit
AI generated slop: Editor's Note: Portions of this story were drafted with assistance from generative AI tools. All final creative decisions, edits, and fact checking were done by human writers and editors.
They just took GenX stereotypes and made a fake article about it.
FU_Eddieee_Iknowyou@reddit
Those are actually all good qualities as far as I'm concerned. But #7 is simply stupid. GenX didn't grow up with tech? WTF? We were there when the dark magic was created.
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
We grew up with new tech, but we weren't inundated with it. We played video games for an hour or two when we had nothing better to do like a rainy day or your friends weren't around. Computers weren't a past time unless you were deep into coding. We didn't spend all day watching TV. We got the Internet, but it was so damn slow it was easy to hit download on a jpg and walk away for several hours till it was finished. We also had cellphones first, but they weren't in our hands every single second of the day.
The article is specifically references screentime, not what we were doing. We could live without tech, younger generations can't. Except Alpha, they make fun of Zoomers for being addicted to their screens. They have to look at screens at school all day, they don't want to look at them when they get home.
GeoHog713@reddit
We often MADE the tech.
Things weren't just plug n play.
I can install a printer AND set a vcr to record. Suck it, youths!
mrslipple@reddit (OP)
Agreed. I was soldering chips onto boards in the late 80's early 90's.
FollowTheFellow@reddit
I wonder when “tech” became synonymous with “smartphone”?
mrslipple@reddit (OP)
Agreed. Handheld games? Nintendo in the 80's? commodore 64? Yeah, we were there for it all.
GroundbreakingSun905@reddit
Meh. It’s just stereotyping Gen X without data to support the claims.
gmkrikey@reddit
It says at the bottom portions were done with AI.
If you look up the author on LjnkedIn you find she is a millennial and a freelance writer. I don’t begrudge her making a living.
JVBass75@reddit
Definitely feels AI... some of it tho really hits home to me tho. I've worked for the same company for 28 years now... and it's definitely Just a Job... Same thing with playing devil's advocate.
I don't think it's inaccurate, but the talking pints are definitely gleaned from places like this subreddit.
