Local driving jobs in Jax, FL
Posted by Fun-Advice-2517@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 17 comments
anyone know of any local driving jobs in Jax, FL that aren’t megas? I’m really tired of working for Werner and I’m a single dad who really likes seeing his kids and being present. don’t wanna be OTR their whole life. I know it’s a lot to ask of a truck driver, but any info helps

You don't have to drive a truck to have a good driving career.
This property is ATU, which is the best bus drivers union to be in.

How much experience do you have?

3 months 😬

Might just wanna tough it out for a while. I don’t think companies are going to take you if you leave your first trucking job that early, and if they do then you’re just getting into a similar situation you’re in now.

They're hiring day cabs for Anheuser Busch on the northside.

Ya I work that account through Werner now and it pays shit not to mention it’s a clusterfuck

Doesn't werner also have a Walmart account near lake city? You might be able to transfer.

They do but it doesn’t even pay 50 grand if it’s the one I’m thinking of. I think the best local Werner account in Jax is dollar general.

Jax is actually solid for local work. The port (JAXPORT) keeps a lot of container and drayage guys busy, and most of those gigs are home daily. Check out Southeastern Freight Lines and AAA Cooper for LTL, both have terminals in the area and the pay is decent for local.
Also look into food/beverage distribution. Sysco and US Foods both run out of Jax and those routes are early mornings but you're home by afternoon. Perfect if you want to be there when the kids get out of school.
Skip the job boards and go walk into these places. Local outfits in Jax hire off handshakes more than resumes. Good luck man, your kids are lucky to have a dad who gives a damn.

Thank you sir, it’s hard when you have little driving experience. I’m changing careers and basically just want more home time with kids. Don’t wanna go back to being absent like I was in the military

My quick and lazy research shows that Saia is hiring local city drivers there. But feel free to look into these companies also:
Xpo, fedex freight (not ground or express), R&L, AAA Cooper, T force, southeastern freight, Estes, old dominion. Im probably forgetting somebody, but I'd start there.

My cousin drives for one of these LTL companies (not gonna say which one for privacy) and he's home every night, weekends off most times. Pay is actually better than what he was making OTR too since you get more consistent hours and better benefits package
The application process can take bit longer than mega carriers but worth it if you want that work-life balance

Try beverage or food delivery. I work for Coke and we're always hiring.

How is it? I also live in Jax and am considering getting off the road. But I also know florida pays shit compared to everywhere else.

Try CJ Logistics. You might find something.

Cypress truck lines is based in JAX. Flatbed but loads get tarped by the factory. Most drivers are regional but they have local and Florida only drivers as well.

Check into local construction companies too. I ran class b fuel & lube for 2 years. Company dependant but I only did about 50 hrs a week m-f with OT after 40. Its “work” though.
