We had tons of old cereal and flour years ago, that nobody had bothered to throw out. Went through the larder and it was infested with these little buggers!
We had to ditch EVERYTHING.
dracuella@reddit
Yeah I went full mason jar after I had an infestation, too. Moths first, then book lice (wingless).. I found a place that had these 3 litre square mason jars for very little money. It was somewhere in Germany at £5 a piece. Bormioli Fido, they were called.
Got sixteen or something? Enough that I'm covered now, that's for sure.
Kubrick_Fan@reddit
in Weevils?
dracuella@reddit
Lol, yeah they're trying to persuade me with sheer numbers to open my flour jar xD
Low-Temperature-1664@reddit
It's because we live in weevil times.
Apprehensive_Plum755@reddit
Oh man, we got these last year. Traced it back to an open bag of bird seed. I hoovered and disinfected the kitchen 4 or 5 times a day for about a fortnight and eventually wiped them out. Good luck!
schweffrey@reddit
These fuckers were infested in my cupboards once upon a time. Had to purge all open food
onplanetstu@reddit
Weevil - do you keep bird seed in the house? We did and they went everywhere.
ItsOurGrim@reddit
Came here to say exactly this, work in a flour mill so can spot them a mile off.
Surreywinter@reddit
Do you have another of a different size?
If so, you should go with the lesser of the two weevils

Looks like a weevil, do you have any infestation in any place in your house? Usually the kitchen, in anything open.
I had this problem before but the source was actually unopened bird food in my cupboard.
moomeymoo@reddit (OP)
It was indeed a bag of bird seed 😅
404pbnotfound@reddit
We literally just found these - and they were coming from a bag of bird seed!!!
Emskidooo@reddit
Same, they were all over the walls of my flat years ago and I eventually traced where they were coming from to a bag of bird seed that was open.
Expensive_Drive_1124@reddit
Mine was pasta. Common in rice in Asia

It looks like a piece of timber. I'm guessing it's all over your house to help support it.

Oh well when you put it that way

Weevil. We had them from some bird seed that we didn't get through fast enough before they hatched. They'll get into your flour and biscuits if they can get into your kitchen. They're not harmful to humans but they will SPREAD. Getting rid of them is a nightmare if they're in your house and it's 10x worse if they do get into the kitchen.
To get rid of them you need to thoroughly clean every nook and cranny of everything even close to where they are and empty the area completely so you can clean every nook and cranny there, too. Then you want to bait some glue traps with flour and seeds to try to catch any more of the blighters.
moomeymoo@reddit (OP)
They were in some bird seed. Luckily my flour and grains in the kitchen are in jars so I haven’t seen any around there yet…
pnlrogue1@reddit
We found them about a metre from the cupboard but they were in the top of the cupboard so they already had to go about a meter down and there was nothing to eat between the seed and the kitchen cupboards about 2m away from the cupboard there were in! We did have to isolate the huge 20+kg dog food bag until we got through it - that was fun

After it bit you, did it run away fearful, or did it walk away smug, self-assured?
moomeymoo@reddit (OP)
The culprit was a bag of bird food in the cupboard. It’s been an interesting few hours.

I was enjoying all the answers so much I nearly forgot to post a reply. We had weevils in flour a few years ago, which spread through the kitchen cupboards, with all my cookbooks as well as other foods in boxes and packets etc. I threw out open food because I didn't fancy eating loads of weevils, and put everything else in the freezer for 3 days, which kills the weevils at all stages of life. They haven't ever returned. Well, not yet...

Weevil. I had hundreds of these when I left a bag of bird seed open in the garage and they spread into the house. They're harmless.
