The UI is an eyesore.

Thanks for the feedback. Could you share what specifically feels off , layout, colors, spacing, or readability? That would help to improve it.
Thank you
GlesasPendos@reddit
That looks incredibly similar to cyberspace.online
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
Yes it is, as you can see it's declared in homepage and FAQ it's cyberspace inspired platform. It's a personal rewrite in functions and tools, mixing shared functions miniapps, music sync over a terminal music player and other stuff.

It looks nice, I don't see mentions of open source. I can understand keeping it close early on, but it would help with trust if the plan is to go open source eventually.

I’d like to release it, but right now I don’t feel confident putting it into production or releasing the source code.
Usually I write the code myself and use AI to review it or give me suggestions, honestly, if it were 100% vibecoded, I’d probably feel more comfortable releasing the source code, because I’d trust that more than my own skills.
I released the Shellbeats source code because it runs locally.
At the moment I have two main problems I’m a solo developer, and my English isn’t very good. I use LLMs to help me with translations and some public pages for indexing purpose, even if I feel that AI text gets perceived as “an AI project” and instantly labeled as vibecode, for me the problem is mostly linguistic.
I need to speed up some parts of the process, because there is just a huge amount of work, and I’m working on this at night.
I hope to release it and open the dev with API integration on guilds!
PS: In real life I'm not a dev I have a small company that works on ICT infrastructure and networking, coding was just a hobby since I was kid.

I think if you just mention it ("the site will be open sourced in the future when code has matured") somewhere it's good enough, but people get suspicious if you plan to remain closed-source.
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
It’s added to the FAQ, thanks for the suggestion.
Open source?
Yes. Once I feel confident enough with the code, I plan to release everything as open source, just like I did with shellbeats.

Weird question, but I was curious, have you ever considered potential federation?

Wow, hard for a solo programmer but I can consider it, on Guild I'm creating miniapps that you can enable and manage, you could federate enabling it by a MiniApp, this is really not a bad idea! But I have to study it a bit more.

I really like the look and feel of Surikata so far! However, I'm getting certificate errors when trying to reach it via desktop browsers. Didn't have that issue with mobile..
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
btw "I really like the look and feel of Surikata so far!" Thanks 4 this comment this makes me really happy!! Thank you!!
peskypsittacine@reddit
Hope you can get some more publicity going! I would maybe suggest advertising on /r/BuyFromEU , and potentially also artist hangouts such as Tumblr? I think Surikata has a lot of potential there.

To be honest, I’ve been working on this for a year, taking time away from my family. After work I spend around 4 hours a day on it.
I published it thinking it was just a nice little project to share, but none of my presentations ever got accepted. I got banned a few times because I looked like a bot, mostly because of the texts corrected by LLMs, or for self-promotion. I got rejected so many times that a few days ago I told myself I would try one last time, and if it didn’t work, I would just shut it down.
And today I’m at +16 users, which never happened before, we were only 5 for months. So yeah, this is kind of a huge thing for me.
I’ll try to follow your advice and figure out how to make it known there too. Thank you so much for the help.
PS: I used an LLM for this message too, otherwise you probably wouldn’t have understood what I was trying to write lol
peskypsittacine@reddit
I've already shown your platform to some friends and social groups I'm around, I hope they'll give it a try!
And don't worry about the LLM, one thing they're great for is facilitating communication across different languages :)
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
mmm... the certificate are released by lets encrypt over coudflare proxy, can I ask you (only if you want) your country origin? (sorry 4 my bad english)
peskypsittacine@reddit
Belgium! The specific error I get is: NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
Bouzeux@reddit
I like it ! It does a good job giving you the feeling it's its own little universe. One worry is that it's maybe a bit too tailored for old nerds (e.g. assuming people know IRC), but maybe it can work as a niche.
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
I’m really happy to hear that, thanks a lot :)
the problem is that I am basically an old nerd too ahaha, so i spent a lot of time thinking about how to call the various features, but honestly nothing is really fixed or sacred there
my goal is more to create a free place, give people the tools they ask for, and then let it become what the community wants it to be. so i can also change names, terms, functions later, no problem at all
anyway really, i’m very happy you like it :)
aVarangian@reddit
says the LLM
Warning_Holiday@reddit (OP)
I use llm for grammar correction because I'm not good in english, no bad intention no bots it's just to let people understand what I want to say. btw thanks for feedback

I started building Surikata because I felt burned out by traditional social media and wanted to try something different.
It’s an experimental digital space where you can do a lot of the things you already do online, but in a more privacy-focused way, without ads or algorithms.
I’m building small mini-apps so people can customize their own guilds and make their spaces feel more personal.
Right now, Surikata includes things like playlist sharing and syncing, web-based IRC chat, internal mail, notes, and even self-destructing notes/messages inspired by Mission: Impossible.
There’s already an iOS app, and the Android version is coming soon. At the moment I’m also trying to build a beta tester mailing list, because I need that before Google will approve publishing the Android app.
This is still an experiment, but it’s something I genuinely care about. I’d really love honest feedback from people here: does this sound interesting to you, or totally unnecessary?
Thanks
