Hi ,im considering upgrading from a 4060ti to a 3080/3080ti (which ever I can find for a good deal) cause gpu prices aren’t very nice at the moment and was wondering if this is worth it ,it will be pared with a ryzen 5 7400f (not sure if that’s a bottleneck either, would like advice on this too ) ,it’s my first time trying to build one from scratch cause the 4060ti is coming out of a prebuilt as spare parts ,thanks for any help I can get

You will get some performance uplift, added VRAM, but also over 2x the power draw and heat and no frame gen with DLSS. You need a 750W PSU for the 3080 at minimum and an 850W for the 3080Ti, and a decent unit at that, so add that to the cost.

Is the performance worth the cost ?

I have no reason to get rid of my 3080, I am still more than happy, but in summer it is not always fun to run the hotbox. I also stick with it to avoid the 12+4 disaster pin, but if I had to buy a card now I would get a 5070 or 5070Ti because of the massive uplift (I need Cuda). But if I didn't need Cuda, I'd have a very good look at the 9060XT and 9070XT 16GB cards.

I don’t mind spending a touch more on the PSU to future proof it anyways ,but a 5070 here in Australia is about $1000 AUD where as I can get a 3080ti for about $700 or so

I would go for a 5070 with warranty over a used 3080Ti if I am honest, even if I would have to pay a bit more.

Fair enough ,would the cup be much of bottleneck or not really much of a problem
AtlQuon@reddit
I would not worry about the CPU. Bottlenecks are overrated anyways, especially with fairly modern hardware, unless they cause issues like a PSU that is too small and cannot deliver enough power.

Oh okay fair enough ,thank you for your help

What PSU do you have?
West-Butterscotch112@reddit (OP)
Nothing at the moment, but I will buy whatever PSU can accommodate the gpu and the rest of the build
