Is it possible to fix only clearcoat

Hello, I have a 2010 Prius, with color 8T5, and it seems like only specialty shops sell this color. I am strapped for cash, and was wondering if I could just apply clearcoat directly, since the basecoat color is still very vibrant and matches super well. I've heard its a bad idea, while others have told me its okay. I've also been told there is a clearcoat restorer? Also, I have a few spare bottles of compound, polish and wax left over that I can use to remove the remaining clearcoat that is still stuck to the top of the roof. Any advice?

Wet sand and 2x clear. Wear a mask 2x is nasty stuff. Lots of tutorials on YouTube. It will look a lot better but never perfect.

yeah the wet sand and re-clear approach works but you'll never get it perfect without a full respray. done the same thing on my old truck's hood -- looked better but you could still see where the old clear stopped. if you're just trying to make it less embarrassing for now it'll do the job

Not just a mask but a respirator. They’re pretty cheap these days

The blue has faded and it will probably not look great. But yes, you can feather out the failing clear, scuff everything and just apply clear. Again, you will probably see where the old clear outlines were and a difference between new and unfaded color but it'll look a bit better than it does now.
Wesco, Sherwin Williams AUTOMOTIVE paint locations should be able to mix up this color and in an aerosol can if you want. That way you can just put a couple good even coats of color so it's all even and then aerosol clear over it. Can get a quote from those stores and save up for it.
