If you had to start over what would you do differently?

If you had to start your pilot training over in 2026, what would you do differently to give yourself the best chance at landing a regional seat?

Never joined military instead gotten a degree then work while training and try my hardest to be an MEI.

Why would you have not joined the military and got a degree instead?

Hated my time in. Never deployed. More or less wasted years. Was also a dumb job so when I got out had no career prospects.

Start in 2020

Best tip right here

Start before so you got the min requirement by 2020

Start a year earlier so I could get picked up by a legacy in 22-23

I would have done a 4 year degree online while doing all of my flying at a part 61 school.
Would have picked a different regional airline (this is some crystal ball type shit though)

I currently have a bachelors degree. Do you think this will be beneficial in the long run?
f1racer328@reddit
Having a bachelors degree gives you more points on your application for most majors. It used to be required for all the big airlines.

Besides start earlier probably choose a school that can give you a CFI job. Lots of schools prefer to hire in house.

All you guys saying start earlier is not helping at all lol

I would have started sooner…. Like in 2010…

Started pilot training in 2019 right after I graduated college. One of my buddy’s did that and he got to a major airline in like 3 years

Win the lottery first.

If I had to start over today I probably wouldn't pick flying. I'm 42 and might do something else.
However... if I was 18 again and starting out with what I know now I'd do one of two things:
- Try and get into C-17's or something in the USAF and then go airlines right after.
- Skip the military and do everything I could as early as I could to get into an airline.
I'd be much further ahead at my age if I'd given up money and schedule earlier on in order to invest in the long term.
