CPL + IR done (Australia) — Best place to get C208 rating?
Posted by magidmadrid@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 4 comments
Hey everyone,
Just finished my CPL + IR in Australia (\~240 hrs TT) and looking to get a Cessna 208 rating.
Open to doing it anywhere (Australia or overseas). Main things I care about:
Cost
Location
Quality of training
Job prospects after (or pathways into work)
Keen to hear real recommendations — schools, countries, or specific operators that are worth it (or ones to avoid).
Goal is to move into charter / bush / utility flying as soon as possible.
Appreciate any advice.

Probably best to head over to PPRuNe and ask in: The Pacific: General Aviation & Questions - PPRuNe Forums
It's focussed on AU/NZ and Oceania and is pretty active. Hopefully someone there will be able to point you in the right direction.

Good news, you don’t need a rating to fly a C208. You could go down to Wichita with a ppl , a couple million and fly one home.

Unfortunately, that is not quite true for CASA licence holders.
As per the Australian Part 61 rules, "Flight Training and a Flight Review" are required to "exercise the privileges of a single-engine aeroplane class rating" for a C208.
refer (Division 5 - 24 and Schedule 12): Part 61 Flight Crew Licensing (Prescribed Aircraft and Type Ratings) (Edition 11) Instrument 2026 - Federal Register of Legislation
Things are even worse for those of us across the ditch in NZ... we basically need type-ratings for each individual aircraft type (ie. C152, C172, C182, PA28, PA38, C208, DHC8 etc)
