Just shaved my head bald from hair loss

Looking in the mirror thinking this is the last time I’ll see myself with hair was tough
hjeff51@reddit
Liberating isn't it? I started buzzing it my 20s. Before that, I was a long hair. I could grab my hair from around the back. My hair line has receded since then. Could only imagine how silly I could look with all if I still had hair. Enjoy free haircuts!!!

Men who shave their balding heads look far more confident than balding men who hang onto their thinning hair. It brings their face front and center instead of the hair, and vastly improves their appearance imo.
eLishus@reddit
r/bald verifies this.

This is my father-in-law, he keeps both his head and face clean-shaven and looks confident and much younger, too.
cola1016@reddit
Keep trying to get my husband to do this. Like stopppppp holding onto it 😂
OskeyBug@reddit
I have noticed people started looking at my face instead of my head when I got rid of my hair and that alone made it all worth it.
el_chivato@reddit
I'm getting irritated that I'm not going bald fast enough. It's like I'm destined to have hair, and I'm sick of shaving it.
Oreostrong@reddit
Since I have, woman look at me as more attractive and men give me more respect. Wish i did it 20 years ago.
mr_snartypants@reddit
I have never once associated a shaved head with “more respect”.
That is absurd.
Oreostrong@reddit
Wow I didnt know you represent all men on the planet.
mr_snartypants@reddit
Because that is exactly what I stated, right?
I simply said that I (as in myself) have never made that connection.
Guess I never realized some men were that vain.
Oreostrong@reddit
Calling my experience absurd tells me you generalized the experience as it could never happen through your perspective of reality. Have you been through the same thing? Maybe your just being a snarkypants. Lol
It's probably for 2 reasons: I carry more confidence and it is commitment that they cannot see themselves doing, thus more respect for another man who has improved himself. Cant see my self going back now.
Quato815@reddit
Men that are totally bald on top, and only have thick hair on the sides, are not the coolest of the flock. It gives off low self esteem vibes. Because, they’re not just accepting it and shaving it. You know this is true.
Lucky_Louch@reddit
Congrats on taking the plunge man. I've been stressing over it for at least 2 years and know it needs to happen but I say I'm gonna do it tomorrow, tomorrow comes and I put it off. Much harder done then said as I've never had a shaved head and have only ever known myself with hair. I knew it was coming for me since my dads been bald since he was 30. He would tell me "hair today, gone tomorrow" .
Indubitalist@reddit
My understanding is that baldness is genetically inherited from the mother’s side of the family. You should be looking at your mom’s dad for a better indication of what you’re balding pattern will look like.
Lucky_Louch@reddit
yeah how it was passed down doesn't really matter at this point, it was passed.. I almost made it to 40 before it started really going so I consider myself lucky, but it still sucks regardless
ReflectionAble684@reddit
Your understanding is incorrect. Balding is a sex linked and sex influenced trait, and it comes from both sides.
bcentsale@reddit
This was my understanding, but looking at old photos from the 1890s right up to my mother's brother, all of them had full heads of hair. Every last male on my dad's side, from the earliest photos of my great great grandfather and his brothers right down to my dad, uncle, and the couple random cousins I met last time I was in Italy, with the exception of my own younger brother and our first cousins, not only were we all balding in our 20s, but we all look eerily alike, like someone stamped us out of an imperfect press.
ReflectionAble684@reddit
Dude just go fucking do it! It’s just hair. If you don’t like it some of it will grow back. 😂
eyecandynsx@reddit
I was shaving my head with clippers and no guard for years. Finally decided to shave it smooth. No one warned me that shaving it is a commitment. l have to shave it every day or every other day at the most, otherwise it kills a razor right away.

I've started to think there's too much weight going in the opposite direction on this now in some circles. That is, too many people implicitly dissing balding people or not shaving it all off. It's like great, more people shaming just from the opposite direction now, so now balding people get it coming and going.
But OP, if you're happy, great. Don't want to bring you down. Just do whatever makes you happy, fuck the rest of us.
larryjrich@reddit
I've been shaving my head since my early 20s and I think a shaved head looks much better on most men who are losing their hair. My wife loves it as well. If I do get a little lazy and let it grow for a few days she'll get mad at me. "Go in the bathroom and shave your head. I can't stand you with hair!" 😆
Having a shaved head is awesome. One word of advice though. You no longer have protection so make sure you wear a hat if you are going outside for an extended period of time so you don't develop skin conditions on your head later in life from the sun.
Texas_Kimchi@reddit
Been shaving my head since the early 2000's. Been shaving my head so long people are telling me I still look like I'm in my late 20's. I just gaslit people into thinking I ever looked young LOL.
Kiethblacklion@reddit
My wife and I had this very conversation over the weekend. My hair loss goes right down the middle but the back and sides still grow like I was 14. I joke that if I don't keep it short I end up looking like Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future. I'm considering doing a full bald shave in the next week or two.
Adrasteia-One@reddit
Welcome to the club, friend. I went through the exact same thing. I was afraid to look at myself in the mirror at first, but in time, I accepted it was who I would now be. My wife loves the look, so I really lucked out. You will adjust to the change and come to accept it in time as well.

I lost my hair in my early 20s and finally shaved it at 30. This was the best thing for you, I promise. You now get to spend all the money you save at the barbershop on razor blades.
And for what it’s worth, this is by far the best hair shave cream I’ve tried.

My hair is thinning but in a weird way where if I shave I look stupid and if I don't shave it I look stupid so Im doing the whole thing or growing it out and using hair products to make it look normal. Pain the ass, just waiting to actually go bald.

The one thing I have going for me is a full head of hair.
Prize_Ad6430@reddit
1977 here been shaving my head since highschool. I still have a full head of hair just too lazy for a hair style. My naturally bald friends hate me for this. But in my defense I was shaving my head before they lost their hair.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
Dunno man. The men on my father's side all had bald spots in their 20s with the rest receding.
I have it, and I'm going to enjoy it. Also, I look like shit with it down to nothing.
Wyverstein@reddit
Humble brag. I have been shaving my head since 2005.
Prize_Ad6430@reddit
Humble humble brag, been shaving my head since 93😁
TakingYourHand@reddit
Tried it. Didn't like it. I prefer short short with a bald head, over completely bald. It was certainly worth trying, though.
thepoolguy82@reddit
I absolutely hate the feeling of shaved with a razor. I bought an electric shaver made for you head and it leaves it feeling like the day after you shave. Best thing I’ve done recently aside from getting sober.
Prize_Ad6430@reddit
Haha yes sir. I got the pitbull shaver it's great. They kept sending me new heads every month. My wife said dumbass you signed up for the subscription.

I don't like the feel of my skin when it's completely bare. I use the Clippers with no guard and let it go for a few weeks.
wiserTyou@reddit
I've been trimming it close since 16, I'm ready. My dad always took me it skipped a generation, he still has hair at 70. I basically accepted my fate by my 20s. It's starting to thin and idaf, I'm just glad I made it this long.
RetroBerner@reddit
I've been buzzing my head since highschool, it'll just be less hair to buzz when it starts to thin out
onions-make-me-cry@reddit
Idk. I think men with shaved heads usually look great.
nola_mike@reddit
Man, I'm 42 gonna be 43 on Saturday. I haven't had hair on my head since I was maybe 25. Be glad you kept your hair as long as you did.
Crowedsource@reddit
My husband has been a shaved head guy for decades (he's 8 years older than me), including when I met him. Believe me when I say that it's absolutely possible for a man to be very attractive and sexy with no hair. I think it's all about just owning it confidently.
EfficiencyIVPickAx@reddit
S_A_R_K@reddit
I've been putting this off for too long. Last time I got a haircut they gave me a discount for "half a head of hair." That stung. Probably going to shave it off rather than cut it next time
ammodramussavannarum@reddit
I’m 48 and finally used my trimmer and cut it all off. I’ve been thinning for 20 years and always wore a hat to cover it. Even when I’d get a short haircut, people treated me different with or without a hat.
Now I feel great wearing a hat or not, and it’s also much cooler (temperature and looks!), and I did it myself.
Like all of you said, why tf didn’t I do this years ago?
Loud_Wolf_7443@reddit
Gotta embrace the cue ball my man. Give it some time and you'll love it.
FewPiece138@reddit (OP)
I’m already not opposed to it, I’m kinda digging it. Thank you for the kind words. It was just looking in the mirror before I did it and knowing that I’ll never have hair again was a sad moment.
rantingathome@reddit
It won't be long before you are asking yourself, "Why didn't I do this years before?"

I lost mine at 20 years old. I use a Philips Norelco Head Shaver Pro twice a week. Takes 3-4 mins to shave and it’s the best way to maintain it.
I use another electric razor to take care of stubborn hair near the side burn area
Sinistas@reddit

Don't go bald.
Be bald.
the_ballmer_peak@reddit
I shaved mine during Covid when I couldn't go get a haircut. At first I used clippers with a guard and later went shorter and even tried a balder (the thing that makes your head full cue ball with not a hint of hair).
I've since found my preference is to shave it with clippers with no guard at all. It leaves just enough that your head doesn't look shiny or feel sticky/tacky, like it does when you use a balder. It's easy to do, and I end up doing it about every two weeks.
Defiant_Cookie_4963@reddit
A couple nods to this already on the thread, but SERIOUSLY go post a before & after on r/bald for a transformative confidence boost
jigga19@reddit
I knew that I was losing my hair at a young age. It was noticeable to the point that I avoided going into the water because you could really see how thin my hair was. It wasn't obvious, but it was definitely going that way.
Anyway, I decided to give myself a haircut with my roommate's clippers (with his permission that I was only going above the neck) and was doing okay, until I tried to give myself a higher fade. Hand slipped, big chunk of hair falls into the sink, and I realized I had accidentally crossed the rubicon for my hair.
That night I went to a party with my newly-shorn self and the positive response I got from the ladies was more than enough to assuage my fears.
The only thing is you've got to maintain it. And moisturize.
xxlouserxx@reddit
I shave to 1mm I can’t bring myself to go all the way. I know the feeling of looking at your hair seeing the thinning and receding and getting depressed but I look decent bald and I have no ragerts
jbenze@reddit
I was really sick like 12 years ago, my hair was thinning and it was like the one last thing I had control over and I shaved it. Now I hate it when it starts to grow in.
OskeyBug@reddit
I've been doing it for 15 years or so. I used to use a razor but then I felt like it looked like I was trying to hide something. I just use the shortest possible clippers now.
conscientiousrevolt@reddit
You never know. I got dumped in a swamp and left for a while for sniper school and came out with a skullet!
Then I kept it for like a year and half!
Jimmy_McAltPants@reddit
I started really losing mine when I hit 32-33, it thinned out quickly. I held on for a couple of years with a thinned part and then began buzzing it with no guard. Finally, about 6 years ago, I bought a Pitbull razor and started shaving it smooth. I actually prefer it to the buzz alternative. I don’t want to take pills or use some special shampoo, so there’s really no other option than to just accept it and move on.
BinocularDisparity@reddit

RightYouAreKen1@reddit
