This was the soundtrack to my senior year of high school. Getting high and playing Mario64 exploring underwater.

Orb. Enigma. A Peter Gabriel motion picture soundtrack The Mission is great ambiance music.

Steve Roach
Jokierre@reddit
Steve Roach has to be the most prolific ambient composer at this point. Continually churning out multiple albums a year to this day.

Harold Budd - abandoned cities

Boards of Canada
For some newer stuff check out Tycho or Carbon Based Lifeforms.

Plasticman (Ritchie Hawtin) is a freaking legend, no one does minimal techno like he does/did 🤤🤤. Still listen to him now, timeless. Also liked The Orb.
alvinofdiaspar@reddit
I still have quite a few of the Plastikman albums.

Don't know the names of the albums, but my favorite radio show in the 90s was Echoes on NPR.
2close4missles@reddit
I really miss that show. I had an old jeep and on warm summer nights I would drive to a little field and look up at the stars and listen. Good times.
Spare-Good-5372@reddit
Hell yes, nothing like summer nights listening to Echoes with the sound of crickets singing in the woods as you drive by

Anything from Jocelyn Pook, Angelo Badalamenti, Tim Story, Black Tape For A Blue Girl, Brian Eno (duh)

To this day, if I have to concentrate and churn something out, I whack on Selected Ambient Works Volume II – Aphex Twin. So much so if my adult children want help with paperwork or admin, they put it on.

Moby released a couple albums in the past 10 years, Long Ambients 1 and 2. The first one came out shortly before my dad died. The track LA3 was the only thing that put me straight to sleep during that time.

Music for Airports
Cloud_Fortress@reddit
List to post rock as a genre. Much of it is ambient and no vocals.
UArkMom@reddit
I went to sleep nearly every night in the 90's to the ambient music radio show Echoes by John DiLiberto on WCBE in Columbus, Ohio.
jessek@reddit
Anything by Brian Eno
Gian_Luck_Pickerd@reddit
He did name the genre, after all
DustedGorilla82@reddit
Brian Eno the godfather of ambient music. Apollo Atmospheres which includes the music he did for all mankind which is great documentary flick
Lanky_Rhubarb1900@reddit
Dean Evenson would like to have a word… 🙃

SomaFM - Groove Salad and sooo many more channels. Enjoy!

Loved Aphex Twin. Still do. “Selected” was a great album.
Was stopped in my tracks a week ago when I saw a college student with an Aphex Twin sticker on his laptop. Asked if it was an Aphex Twin sticker (cuz I couldn’t quite believe it). Kid said he was a big fan. Made my day.
hjeff51@reddit
That FSOL album is in the top 5 of the genre for me. Definitely have to drop Disc 2 of Meat Beat Manifesto's Subliminal Sandwich. Both discs of that album changed my life. Jack Dangers is the shit.
epidemicsaints@reddit
Warp records lover and lots of old d'n'b.
I have been jamming to CJ Bolland's The 4th Sign this month.
graveybrains@reddit
Not much, but there was some Dead Can Dance and Skylab. And the blade runner soundtrack probably qualifies.
Way_2_Go_Donny@reddit
Didn't KLF change their name every 4 days?
graveybrains@reddit
The Timelords were my favorite, although the one they did with Tammy Wynette as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu was great.
vand3lay1ndustries@reddit
Ratatat, Explosions in the Sky, and Mates of State.
