Am I the only US born and raised GenXer who has never seen any of the Star Wars movies?

And do I get some kind of consolation prize or therapy for this?
cuzitsathrowawayday@reddit
Me! 🙋🏼♀️
Markaes4@reddit
My current girfriend (49F) and about half of my exes never saw any Star Wars movies. Also my best friend (50M) never did and my other good friend (49M) and they were in the exact same demographic as me and liked He-man, transformers etc...
Star Wars was my childhood (50M). Heck even my grandma, who was born in the 1890s saw the first one.
Jerzee_Implant2012@reddit
Nope! Me me neither. I figured it’s because I’m an Xennial and hate sci-fi…
handsomeape95@reddit
That's the thing about Star Wars. It's fantasy wearing sci-fi pants.
Jerzee_Implant2012@reddit
The sci-fi pants got me.
DryFoundation2323@reddit
Yes.
madogvelkor@reddit
I think the only one my wife saw was Solo.
Mammoth_Ad_483@reddit
I've only seen the original three
KalistoCA@reddit
The ones worth seeing
Then mando
Smurfybabe@reddit
And Andor
McNasty420@reddit
I’m 49F i have not
music-fan-2025@reddit
Not even caught bits on cable?
Grafakos@reddit
"Jaws was never my scene, and I don't like Star Wars."
Thirsty4Knowledge911@reddit
It’s not too late. But you should watch in the same order every one of us did.
Episode 4,5, & 6 Then 1, 2, 3 Then 7, 8, 9.
StopLookListenDecide@reddit
Not one. None of the sci-fi, fantasy, comics etc. Just not my thing
calmlikeasexbobomb@reddit
AggravatingPie710@reddit
I’ve tried to watch them a couple times over the years, and I always fall asleep. But, then, I’m a woman, not a nerd, not into sci-fi, etc. I don’t get it. I find it stupid and juvenile how so many people our age are still obsessed with it, like the number of people in my workplace who have those stupid big headed dolls of the different characters at their desks. 🤣
I said my piece.
Sonoshitthereiwas@reddit
Do you find all big headed dolls, small headed dolls, and normal headed dolls in the workplace, regardless of type, dumb? As long as that’s the case, I’m just fine with that.
AggravatingPie710@reddit
Yes
knoxcos@reddit
Yes you are. And no, you must leave. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
AdmiralJaneway8@reddit
Yes. Yes, you are.
KalistoCA@reddit
I mean it is rather unexpected behavior
However excusable if you confess your favourite Star Trek movie and pick a good one ☠️
NM-RoadRunner@reddit
Yes
Eponack@reddit
I’m sure there are some people who grew up in a cult and never left, that haven’t. Any FLDS member our age is very unlikely to have seen any.
Maximum_Locksmith_29@reddit
likely. very accessible now. the original trilogy is the only one that matters. frankly its your duty as an american. that and voting.
Suckerforcats@reddit
I never have. Don't care to either.
Nightgasm@reddit
I'm a complete Star Wars nerd yet my stepsister, albeit eleven years younger has only ever seen the made for TV Ewok movie.
railworx@reddit
👋
Some-Cartographer942@reddit
It kinda like being Amish for you isn’t it? Like calling everyone else English and not using electricity. You think it makes you special, but it just makes you a dork to everyone else.
AggravatingPie710@reddit
Adults who aren’t into Star Wars are definitely the dorks here
Target_Standard@reddit (OP)
I actually waa angry at my parents for a while for not bringing me to see it when a lot of my grade school friends were talking about it andhad the lunch boxes, tshirts, and action figures. Then life just happened and I never got around to it. I loved Star Trek and Buck Rodgers on TV.
yodamastertampa@reddit
Dunno_If_I_Won@reddit
I'm sure there are thousands who grew up in cults who could claim the same thing.
MidstSerpentsOfWool@reddit
I have never seen any of these films . I have walked through the room when these were on, and seen a couple minutes of random scenes, that is all.
Jolly_Werewolf_7356@reddit
Yes, you don't get a prize.
neoreeps@reddit
Male , I don't believe you. Female, seems right.
Joyous-Volume-67@reddit
yes, i don't believe these other people who say they haven't seen them either, but i believe you
liveitup63@reddit
I'm 63 and have never seen any of them. Couldn't care less
ApprehensivePush7871@reddit
I’m 61 and have never seen any of the Star Wars movies, either.
LevelPerception4@reddit
I’ve seen the originals as a child and they bored me then. I got my mother to buy a copy of The Empire Strikes Back novelization because I prefer reading, and it was one of the few books I owned that I didn’t finish. Nor have I seen The Lord of the Rings.
khogue76@reddit
I have seen parts. I’ve never been able to watch an entire movie. I have nothing against them and wish I could watch them from hearing everyone rave about them. It’s just not my thing.
pancakeonions@reddit
You and my wife!
You are rare creatures indeed
melty75@reddit
Not sure but I know one Canadian who can make this claim, and he also has never tried a Big Mac.
chrissymae_i@reddit
As a kid, I was obsessed with Princess Leia. I loved playing with her action figures. So much better than Barbie and she was better proportions with GI Joe figures. She'd tell Joe, "Into the garbage chute, Fly Boy!" 😊
No! No Consolation Prize for you!!! 😄 Just kidding. Here you go: 🥉

handsomeape95@reddit
It insists upon itself.
Fair-Wishbone-1190@reddit
No. But I have to admit I did see the second one or third one I can't remember which one but it had those little ewok things and jabba the Hutt
Rough_Condition75@reddit
Nope I’ve never watched either. And I probably never will as sci-fi doesn’t interest me in the least
cutsryd@reddit
Aernak@reddit
None here either - I’ve avoided them my entire life somehow
Equivalent-Speed-631@reddit
I saw the original movies but not the newer ones.
Own_Celebration5462@reddit
It took me decades and only because my husband loves them.
Wrong-Rich5564@reddit
NONE?? Wow..... Even I've seen 1 of them..... I saw the original Star Wars as a kid and never saw any of the others.
wish4111@reddit
I’ve never seen any of them, either.
dankantspelle@reddit
What's a Star War?
handsomeape95@reddit
BeckyKleitz@reddit
Probably.
Alternative_Sort_404@reddit
Were you raised in a cult or homeschooled, man?
JayRexx@reddit
No kids?
TheMatt561@reddit
Probably
fukitola@reddit
I tried watching one in college. Fell asleep from boredom and disappointed my date!
Alternative_Sort_404@reddit
Sounds like a ‘you’ problem, not the movie…
Strict-Artichoke-361@reddit
Never seen any of them. I do love Spaceballs.
surfoxy@reddit
There's also one girl in Peoria.
Ok_Budget5785@reddit
Nah, it played in Peoria
dk4ua@reddit
Nope. Lol. I pride myself in being able to say I haven’t watched them either. It honestly tears some people up and I love it.
HortenseDaigle@reddit
why?
Rhusty_Dodes@reddit
What about not watching a movie gives you a sense of pride? That's such an odd thing to be prideful about. I love Star Wars and I know many people who don't like it, or have never watched it. Heck my wife had never seen it until she showed some interest in watching them when the newer sequels came out. It's not really her type of thing, which is cool and fine with me. It's definitely not for everyone. But never heard of someone being proud they haven't done so.
Stardrive_1@reddit
Shame on you both!
On a related note, I have yet to watch *any* of the Godfather movies.
New-Sheepherder2239@reddit
Only the original here
BionicBrainLab@reddit
My entire childhood was dominated by Star Wars. Every bath I took as a kid until I started showering had me playing with my action figures in the tub. Not sure I would’ve survived my childhood without it.
DisappointedDragon@reddit
My friend never watched them, Sesame Street, or the Grinch original cartoon! I remain concerned for her childhood!
missysweid@reddit
I've never either!
handsomeape95@reddit
Have you seen any of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies? If not, then maybe you have some kind of John Williams bias!
missysweid@reddit
I've watched all the Christopher Reeves Superman movies, I think there were 2 or 3, right, I actually had to go look up who John Williams is and it's definitely not that. I've seen, and love, a ton of his movies. I even had the hots for Harrison Ford when I was a teen and still refused to watch Star Wars. Just not interested.

50M who enjoys sci-fi but somehow have never seen any of them and I don't care if I ever do.
jollysnwflk@reddit
Technically I saw Star Wars in the movie theater when I was 5(?) with my parents. But I slept through the whole thing. Never had any desire to see the other ones.
bownt1@reddit
yes
Glass-Nectarine-3282@reddit
I would argue that, by now, the only way this can happen is by your putting effort into NOT seeing them, so yeah, you're rebelling against something, so I concur with therapy.
missysweid@reddit
I agree that I am purposely avoiding them, but not because I'm rebelling against anything. I'm just not interested. I'm not big on sci fi movies, or space stuff.
Glass-Nectarine-3282@reddit
Save it for the couch.
ragingclaw@reddit
Probably not, and that's ok. Personally, I love them and recommend you watch them, but hey, you do you.
CelestineSkies@reddit
You are not alone. I tried watching the original and was bored to tears 20 minutes in. I’m good.
Puzzled-Bonus-3456@reddit
I've never seen any of them all the way through. I saw the first 10 minutes of the 1977 one and found it boring. Yeah you lunkheads that can't deal with someone not liking your favourite movie, go pound sand. I actually walked out of the cinema and played pinball for the rest of the movie while my brother stayed. His assessment when it was over: "you didn't miss anything." First time we ever agreed on anything.
Every time I try to watch sci fi, it's always the same: the protagonists get themselves into an impossible jam that some space gizmo gets them out of. Doesn't interest me at all.
theinspireddesigner@reddit
Yes. Yes you are.
blurgmans@reddit
A few years ago I signed up to Disney+ and watched them all. They were good, some were better than the others. I liked the Mandalorian series but after the season ended I canceled and haven't renewed. I wasn't converted to a fan boy or anything close and I did enjoy them. But once was enough for me.
GladCauliflower6331@reddit
Gen X here. I’ve never seen any of them either.
calmlikeasexbobomb@reddit
Why?
No-Property1871@reddit
Well.. if be seen bits and pieces bc they were on and being watched by others but I have never watched them. Never interested me. At all.
Gandalftron@reddit
Checks notes.....yes.
flsingleguy@reddit
For those who haven’t seen the movies, I would suggest you may want to if you like good stories.
Imcluelesstoday@reddit
You didn't miss much.
Educational_Bid_5315@reddit
This! I only saw a couple and it wasn’t by choice
CauliflowerSlight784@reddit
I haven’t either!!! None of them! I’ve also never seen a Godfather, Rambo, Raiders of the Lost Ark or a single Die Hard movie. 🫣
