Anyone else remember the scary Green Giant commercials from the late 60-early 70s?

I was watching some vintage commercials on YouTube recently and remembered a commercial from my early childhood (before I started school). It was for Green Giant vegetables and the mascot was this huge scary looking giant who towered over the landscape. There was also a video about many moms calling in to complain that the commercials were scaring the children. That giant was terrifying to a 4 or 5ish year old me.
Did any of y’all have similar experiences?

I love the green giant

Weird, I never found anything about that to be scary. Y'all need to man up!

I still sing, “Ho ho hooo! Green Gi-ant!” when I pull out a bag of frozen veggies.

I did it just now when I got out a can of GG peas!

The scariest thing about the Green Giant is how short his skirt is. They depicted him stepping over hills and fields and I just couldn’t stop laughing about how the people he stepped over saw way too much of his Jolly Green Giant.

You know what he does - he stands over his corn and peas

Early on I remember seeing an actual person dressed as the giant. Yeah he was scary. The cartoon later softened the image.

I had to post this. I was older so the giant didn't scare me. For those of you younger, it seems you can relive your childhood nightmares 😆
The Jolly Green Giant Museum in Blue Earth, Minnesota, is a free, self-guided attraction next to the 55.5-foot-tall Jolly Green Giant statue, featuring Green Giant memorabilia, company history, vintage commercials, and a gift shop.
The statue was built in 1979 as a tourist draw after the interstate bypassed the town, and the museum tells the story of the brand and its connection to Blue Earth, a former canning factory location. Visitors can see old factory machinery, merchandise, and learn about the brand's evolution.
What to expect
Free admission: The museum is free to enter.
Statue: A 55.5-foot-tall statue of the Jolly Green Giant is located in the adjacent park for photo opportunities.
Exhibits: See Green Giant memorabilia, vintage commercials, and the history of the Minnesota Valley Canning Company, which was founded in Blue Earth.
Machinery: The museum includes old canning factory machinery and artifacts.
Gift Shop: A gift shop offers souvenirs and locally made goods.
Sprouts: Look for 24 uniquely painted "Sprout" statues around town.
Location and access
The museum and statue are located at the crossroads of I-90 and Highway 169.
It's a popular, quick stop for travelers on long road trips.

I hid behind the couch when he came on. I remember doing that at age 2 or 3. It’s my earliest memory lol

Never thought of them as scary.

Scary? He's the "Jolly" Green Giant. There was a big statue of him near my college.

Blu Earth Minnesota, I've been to that statue many times

In Minnesota? A stop by the Jolly Green Giant was on the list for our cross country camping trip, but with the ambitious drive that day, sadly, we skipped it. We did stop to see the park filled with giant concrete ears of corn near Columbus, OH, though.

Yep.

I wasn’t sure why there was a giant all about vegetables…..

I remember watching an old Lassie show rerun one day. Timmy turned around, looked past the camera into the distance with a startled gasp, and they cut to a Jolly Green Giant commercial. It was hilarious.

I was afraid of Mr. Clean. His look has softened since the 70’s but he used to be one angry looking dude

I never knew anyone who was scared. He had a smile and a friendly jingle I can still hear in my head.

The Giant wasn't scary! I'm Gen X and I remember him. Only two universally recognized figures had the catch-phrase "Ho, Ho, Ho!" and they were both good guys.
Now, Grumpy from the Land of the Lost . . . that guy was terrifying! One of these was bringing you food, the other wanted to make a meal of you!
Oh, and forget Sprout. Why's my mascot need a mascot?
