Is it true that people’s true personality is shown behind the wheel when they are driving?

I’ve noticed that people are usually nice in person, but seeing a vast majority of people driving on the streets, I see otherwise. Almost everyone when behind the wheel I notice is straight up evil as in absolutely no respect for other drivers on the road. No one moves over when I need to merge for example and when I need to change lanes, other cars go even faster so I can’t change lanes. Almost all the time I notice cars go incredibly slow in front of me and cars behind me go incredibly fast. Especially true for the former on the fast lane and the latter on the other lanes

No and it’s also not true that what they tell you wasted is true.

My dad was an ASSHOLE behind the whee while I was growing up.
It's because he it truly afraid of car wrecks and genuinely believed that unsafe behavior on the road was a choice people were making instead of mindless poor driving.
He hates close followers and people who don't use their blinkers. He used to scream that his baby is in the car, even when I was a teen.
Teaching me how to drive called him down quite a bit because it clicked for him that maybe the person cutting him off in traffic simply is a bad driver and isn't aggressively trying to threaten his family's life.

I hope not. I'm a monster when I'm driving. I definitely don't treat people like that IRL.
stringstringing@reddit
You say that like driving isn’t irl. In fact it’s probably you at your most powerful in regards to how much your decisions could easily change someone’s life.

I would say that the way people act on social media is more of their true self. Driving has become very aggressive in the last 20 years so it's hard not to get agitated with idiots cutting you off and riding your ass.

Why would you ask this sub in particular?

So it's everybody else's fault but you are a perfect angel? Yes, every single driver thinks the same, that they are doing it right and it's everyone else's fault. I learned to drive in New Jersey, I do not expect other people to "let" me merge or pass, that's really self-centered.

This got a chuckle out of me for it's incredible egocentrism.
Take a moment to reflect and it should be obvious that you will only interact with the cars in front of you that are going slower than you are and the cars behind you that are going faster than you are. If you were traveling at identical speeds the distance between you would never change (and cars ahead of you going faster than you would never interact as you'd never catch them, etc)

The best representation of someones true self is anonymity.

I’m definitely meaner in person than when I am driving. I don’t want to die or anything in a car.
ketamineburner@reddit
I guess my true personality is slow and terrified.
OtherlandGirl@reddit
I don’t think I’m actually psychotic, so I don’t think so…
RhinoPillMan@reddit
No. It’s not even consistent. Sometimes I’m throwing my hands up saying “Really, dumbass??!”, sometimes I’m waving everyone in front of me.
People are their true selves when they’re drunk. Not stumbling and puking drunk, but a few more than just being tipsy. This is even more true if they’ve mixed stimulants with it. That’s when you see someone for who they are.
Bcatfan08@reddit
I thought it was revealed when they're drunk.
