Just put a Remigo One on my J22…AMA

Couldn’t find any data points so I figured I’d start this thread.
I’m super happy with it! Easy charging, lightweight and plenty fast.

What's a remigo?

I am shopping for outboards right now, so I happed to have this link handy. There are reviews for the other brands there as well and they were done fairly well.

I just got a Torqeedo from Emo. I haven’t put it on yet, but was very happy with their service
WaterChicken007@reddit
That is good to know.
I went partially through the checkout path but didn’t click the final button. One thing I noticed was it didn’t say anything about sales tax. Which for a motor is a big deal. They are in NY and I am in WA, so maybe they got away with no tax due to that.
Did you have to pay sales tax? Was the shipping time reasonable? It might be worth the wait if I can save a few hundred on taxes.

Gotta love an AMA where the OP doesn’t respond to questions

Been over an hour and still crickets

I'm also planning on getting an electric motor, but the fact that you can't replace the battery on these is a non-starter.
WaterChicken007@reddit
I am thinking of getting one for my dinghy. The form factor is awesome. Except for the lack of motor controls on the tiller (for those that don’t know, you control speed and direction via the buttons on the top).
How have the controls been to use in practice? And how fast does it push your j22?
FrostnJack@reddit
The RemigoUS site says there's a wireless remote. That still seems... not the best.
Raneynickelfire@reddit
Because wireless remotes never ever get lost.
FrostnJack@reddit
100%. I would a) lose it over the side immediately (my hands suck and I drop stuff constantly now) or b) it wold "unpair" on me right when I needed it to work.
Large_slug_overlord@reddit
Whoa, having to reach over the transom to kill the motor seems not only inconvenient but also dangerous
WaterChicken007@reddit
To kill it entirely you can yank the magnetic key off of it. That would kill it instantly. But you are right, you have to be able to reach the top of the motor hanging off the transom to operate it normally.
They do sell a Bluetooth control for it so you could put that on the tiller handle. Still somewhat awkward, but wouldn’t require reaching for it with a second hand.
Raneynickelfire@reddit
So it's the same as any other engine with a lanyard, but more inconvenient and dangerous.
Great.
Raneynickelfire@reddit
"Stupid" is the word I'd use.
the-montser@reddit
It’s not any worse than an equivalent outboard
Raneynickelfire@reddit
So in an emergency, you have to reach over the transom and way out the back of the boat to make any adjustment?
That's...not ideal or a great plan/idea at all.
FrostnJack@reddit
How are the controls and speed changing with the buttons on top of the unit instead of the tiller?
bhilliardga@reddit
The throttle is in a weird place. How do you like that. Seems so strange that they didn’t put it on the handle.
FrostnJack@reddit
Eric Andereaa tested an electric outboard with controls on the tiller. Seems a weird choice to put it on top of the thing... 10 speeds but two buttons? tap tap tap tap to change varying speeds seems unreliable.
Agent_Orange81@reddit
What was the total cost?
