Is this where we want all the "kids on emotos"?

Definitely seems safer than him being on a bike trail. I mean look how fast it is, OP says 45-50mph! This way he'll just die if he hits anyone. Phew, problem solved. Good thing he's not on a bike trail with narrow lanes, tighter turns, and infrastructure that make going fast like this way more difficult. I hope he has insurance, might dent someone's car as his head bounces off it. Anything that can go over 28mhp belongs on the highway with the multi-ton metal death traps!
Fantastic_Key_8906@reddit
Its either die on the freeway or in endless wars. Let him choose.
But to answer the question: No, its illegal to drive that there.
Suit_Responsible@reddit
What makes this illegal? It doesn’t look like an interstate..
Fantastic_Key_8906@reddit
Well to be honest I don't know how roads are classed over there, but In my country an unregistered vehicle or a registred one who can't go over 22 mph isn't allowed on the freeway.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
The US hasn't had a draft in over 50 years. This kid is making poor choices all on his own.
kmacthefunky@reddit
I don't know if you're watching the new lately...
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
I don't know if you understand the meaning of the word "draft". Or the implication of there not being a draft as it relates to the comment I replied to.
CordisHead@reddit
He said die on the freeway or endless wars. That could be taken as him having to choice of either, which would not involve being drafted.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
He said it's "either" implying that one of the two was unavoidable.
In reality, neither is (necessarily) unavoidable.
Slight_Nobody5343@reddit
everyone should downsize. that and public transportation
gm-mc@reddit
dw hes still got his parents health insurance
celeste_ferret@reddit
At least he's not doing a wheelie.
SadisticPawz@reddit
LMAO
Realistic_Mix3652@reddit
How do you emergency break on a mono-wheel without throwing yourself off?
Lucidlie@reddit
You just lean back, what you never rode an euc before?
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
That it lacks a handlebar and a seat for bracing is highly pertinent.
crazymoefaux@reddit
You actually don't need either. You just get into a squat and push your heels into the pedals.
If you're practiced enough, you can stop from as fast as the kid is going pretty quickly.
If not, then you get a death wobble and fall on your tailbone. Happened to me once - my hand hit a rock that would've sent me to the emergency room, but my wrist guards kept me protected.
Suit_Responsible@reddit
Given you are a former EUC rider. Would you say it is more dangerous or the same danger as a motorcycle (of whatever type)
crazymoefaux@reddit
Honestly, it depends on the wheel. I busted my collarbone riding my S18, but I made the mistake of pushing it too hard up too steep a hill. Ask for more power than the batteries can output, and you're just asking for a motor cutout. Newer wheels tend to be more capable in that regard, though. I always followed traffic rules for ebikes, anyway - never faster than 28mph, stuck to bike lanes where possible. So I rode as safely as I could, most of the time anyway. Had some fun at the local skate park - the S18 was one of the first wheels with a full suspension, making trail riding, jumps and rolling down stairs a blast.
Honestly, I felt pretty safe on my wheel, but I also geared up for the ride. Full-face helmet and goggles, shin/knee protection, wrist guards, motorcycling jacket, the whole nine yards. Nothing could've protected my clavicle from snapping in two, but that kind of injury isn't uncommon on a bike. I was lower to the ground, and fell at an angle that made a head injury a non-factor, but falling sideways off a bike, you better have a helmet that will protect the side of your head...
You also are in a more upright position than on a bike which makes keeping your head on a swivel easier. I also used a mirror on the back of my hand to check my 6 without needing to turn my head all the way around. It's more maneuverable, so you can avoid dangerous situations pretty well if you're aware and see them coming.
So yeah, I'd make the argument that if you're not riding like a future organ donor, it's more safe than a motorcycle that can do 80mph.
Suit_Responsible@reddit
Did you quit because of the injury and if so would you also rule out bikes?
crazymoefaux@reddit
No, I stopped because the crash more or less totaled my wheel, and my wife won't let me get another until I somehow unload it. I'd gladly get a new wheel if money were no object! I do have an ebike, but it mostly gathers dust. I did use it to commute to work in my last job, but my new workplace doesn't have a good place to lock it up. I know I need to ride it more... but the wheel was a LOT more fun...
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Being able to stop at this speed doesn't mean it's as safe as a proper motorcycle. You all are in full denial.
burieddeepbetween@reddit
It is as safe, if not safer. You lay a motorcycle down on your leg in an emergency braking situation, you have an injury. We emergency brake on EUC, we can abandon the vehicle easily and won't crush us. Less weight too - 45kg vs 200kg, so less momentum.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Less crushing force in an accident avoids the elephant in the room that you are more likely to get into an accident.
TurnkeyLurker@reddit
*brake
Though, he may break into when hit.
slacknsurf420@reddit
people crash on the highway in registered vehicles everyday - even die doing it.
what's the difference
laosurv3y@reddit
Build communities you have to have a car to get around and those that can't drive or don't want to pay that much for it will find alternatives. Alternatives that aren't safe since the infrastructure is designed for cars, not people, bikes, or anything else.
In America, cars are generally the dominant 'life' form.
TitaniumKneecap@reddit
I have an EUC and would regularly hit 45+. The newer ones top out at 80+.
Suit_Responsible@reddit
That feels crazy, but I supposed functionally it’s not that different to a sports bike. A crash on either will likely have you sliding along the asphalt
KaboodleMoon@reddit
Dress for the slide not the ride.
The bigger problem with these and ebikes is people not knowing/following the rules of the road. They're a fucking vehicle people. Stop at red lights. Use the bike lane the RIGHT WAY. Stop for pedestrians. Stop at stop signs. Follow the speed limits.
Not doing these things is making the damned cities crack down on EVERYONE.
Suit_Responsible@reddit
This should be a registered vehicle right?
KaboodleMoon@reddit
Should.
RollingMeteors@reddit
>Is this where we want all the "kids on emotos"?
You can pick this or lowering the driving age to 12 or maybe 7.
chrispark70@reddit
I thank the good lord these things weren't around in the 80s when I was a teenager. I'd be dead.
They look like so much fun.
Lucidlie@reddit
Honestly my electric unicycle gets more range than an e bike at 70miles on a full charge and I feel safer on an euc than my ebike. I only have a slow one that maxes out at 37mph.
Shiney_Metal_Ass@reddit
Genuinely curious as to how you feel safer at any real speed on your EUC vs ebike
Lucidlie@reddit
I think it's because of how hard the euc itself is to learn, riders generally have put in a lot of time and practice to ride at high speeds, compared to an emoto where someone can ride at high speeds without much practice. Euc riders generally gear up and respect their machine a little bit more imo
KeeganDoomFire@reddit
I mean I would just prefer kids not have e motorcycles.
QUEENSNYLAWYER@reddit
EVIL, PURE AND SIMPLE, FROM THE EIGHTH DIMENSION!
atlasraven@reddit
I don't see an emoto. That's an EUC.
Thewrongthinker@reddit
I can only say kids are gonna be kids
OutsideYourWorld@reddit
I'd be interested to see the aftermath of one of these peoples' crashes. Just to see the injuries they get.
WaterInTheDark@reddit
Well that's concerning...
jaco1001@reddit
Unironically: yes.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
OH LOOK, the driver with a phone in his hand, not watching the road ahead. And you want to have a discussion about the uber-unicycles?
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
If you didnt notice the guy arguing by telling us how certain certifications made everything from f1 drivers to passenger-vehicle-weight safer for everyone involved. He does this with no sense of irony as you can still apply all that logic to all vehicles including ebikes and euc. Not being alarmed at the person in the 4000lb suv filming certainly casting doubt on his licensed ability, but being alarmed that person would take an euc and minimal safety gear on a highway, are certainly not aware of their own congnitive dissonance. Perhaps he is just habituated.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
Bye #dangerous=notsafe
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
That the driver shouldn't be recording while driving doesn't change that these EUCs are unsafe for highways. Not just unsafe but extremely dangerous.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
you have done the studies? you have the facts to back this up? Or do you just want agreement cause the facts also show drivers of 4000lb vehicles are also in the vicinity. I imagine the consequences could be disastrous but my imagination is just doing its best to see the worst in things. Can this be safe, yes, can this be done better yes. Is this company selling these legally, yes. ARE CARS AND TRUCKS THE MOST UNREGULATED FOR SAFETY AND SPEED, yes.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
GTFO out of here with your studies if riding a one wheeled motorcycle with no seat or handlebar might pose increased hazards. Clown.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
"my only defense is that its ok to be an unsafe driver, as long as it gives me an opportunity to call an euc unsafe, and even extremely dangerous (which is called unsafe fyi)"
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Never did I advocate for motorists to be unsafe, kid.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
no, you just showed up saying its unsafe. By what metric? then you followed up by saying its dangerous in reduncancy. Just curious if you can bring to bear any such information that will back your claim.
being an f1 driver is also "extremely dangerous" but when you mandate training and certification, the danger isnt what keeps you out of the drivers seat, cause people agreed on whole to make it as safe as possible for willing participants.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
It's called emphasis, genius.
F1 drivers are not permitted to race F1 cars on public roads.
You are chock full of ridiculous arguments.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
you have yet to present 1 arguement. "trust me bro, its extremely dangerous"
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Bye clown.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
f1 drivers are doing something dangerous. keep doing that mental gymnastics.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
On private tracks. Are you seriously unable to discern why that matters?
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
"GTFO" sounds like something someone would say in the drivers seat of a 4000 lb car that has no speed regulator. and has not weight (besides freight max) regulations. Which if you do any of the same mental gymnastics you are doing for a euc, makes them EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
Inciteful_Analysis@reddit
Many, if not most, cars have a speed regulator. It's just higher than most will ever encounter.
Passenger cars have weight limits. Your DMV will be happy to charge you extra if you exceed them.
Pretending someone standing on top of a single wheel with nothing to grip doesn't have less control is not the argument of a serious person.
Actual_Noodle@reddit
I’m sorry but asking for studies about a niche pev’s safety on highways is fucking hilarious
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
mandated by law. where's the civic pride.
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
for more information, https://inmotionworld.com/
Airzone_@reddit
You sure that ain’t for the one wheel? I doubt he’d be scrolling reels just for fun
Alarming_Library7176@reddit
yah right, people should be warned about sharing the road with distracted and irresponsible drivers.
robotcoke@reddit
Yep this is exactly what I keep trying to tell all the bots who advocate for stricter regulations on ebikes.
Even the really fast ones that go 40 MPH (which are rare) are not capable of keeping up with the flow of traffic on most busy streets in my area. And most ebikes can't go that fast. If you get one to 35 MPH you're probably in the top 1% of fastest ebikes.
NeighborGeek@reddit
Ok, so it’s too fast to safely share trails with pedestrians and traditional cyclists, and too slow for the highway. Do you suggest they be outlawed?
Or, perhaps the riders use some common sense and stick to surface roads and side streets wherever possible?
robotcoke@reddit
No it isn't. That's where we disagree. It's slightly faster (if that) than a regular bike can get to in bursts. It just stays at that speed for longer than a regular bike.
Relative-Display-676@reddit
Some eucs go faster than cars. I've seen some do 90mph.
Honestly if everyone was riding eucs, world would be a better place. Not good for cargo, but superior to ebikes in everything else.
Ol_Man_J@reddit
Yes, good thing he isn’t on a bike trail. The person who is doing this isn’t the person making great decisions and I don’t want them anywhere near a mixed use path.
wowwowwow2020@reddit
I'd rather that kid out there livin instead of inside playing those gatdamn vidya games
Ambitious_Policy_936@reddit
Knee pads and no sleeves
Abhoth52@reddit
Yeah, he looks well kitted up but those elbows won't work right any longer if ya fall.
l0nguyen@reddit
The mental build to get up to that speed without going through to conclude with a helmet and knee pads. He probably got his knee slides with the air guitar down
bsiu@reddit
Guy needs to learn some moves from that aurafarming boat kid.
Pretend-Following534@reddit
That’s not an e-bike so does not belong here. Take this post elsewhere
Any-Foundation5983@reddit (OP)
The post is making a point a suggested e bike regulations and what should be done about e motos on bike infrastructure. Mods are welcome to take it down if they agree with you.

This kid is way cooler than I ever was at that age.

That's a future organ donor.
