Nah, imagine a madden with in depth management mechanics and super advanced physics simulation. What we have now is dumbed down so children can play it but a sports game made for an adult would be really fun.
Besides, something like football you can’t just pick up and readily play. So a video game helps people who used to play it relive those days
There used to be a lot more. Stuff like Mutant League Football/Hockey, NBA Jam, and even going back to the NES for Base Wars. There's a lot of interesting things you could do with a sports game that essentially just doesn't get tried because Ball gamers are locked into the EA slop.
Anyone who still pays EA for thier annual sports slop is feeding a cycle of stagnation / overt greedy monetization, and I don't respect them.
NFL Blitz 2003 was peak, and year after year we've strayed further from making sports games fun. And they'll keep doing the bare minimum, because "guns and balls" gamers will happily spend another $60+ for the same exact game but slightly worse lol
I still don't understand why those people don't just keep playing Fifa 2012 on a 360/PS3. Is it literally just "but my friends will think I'm poor if I don't have the new one"? Have the games actually changed other than more microtransactions?
I'll never understand people who pay full price for madden. I buy it like once every 5 years when it's marked down to 10 bucks. I only play franchise or local multi-player so there's no real reason to buy every year.
They’re want the current rosters and i haven’t bought a sports game in so many years idk if you can download community rosters. Most people would rather spend $70 than spend 5 hours updating the rosters to this year
Basically like the new iphones ig. Npc behavior to just always want the latest. Maybe it made sense back in the day where there was semi significant improvements in things like graphics year to year but now it's the same shit every year
Nah I learned to play basketball during covid with 2k, then I used that ball knowledge to get on the court and actually play. It's cool being able to simulate a sport you're trying to learn at a high level

I will always love a good gun game, but most sports games are absolute shit

Agreed, though I think the UFC games have been alright.

sports games are for people who have absolutely zero imagination

Counterpoint: Pyre is fantastic.
Afraid-Exit2125@reddit
I searched for the game called Pyre and it's not sports, what are you referencing then
UnplacatablePlate@reddit
I'm assuming the same game; it is sports. Just in a fantasy world and with some RPG elements.
Licensed_Inspector@reddit
I'm talking about direct translations of real life sports like Madden or Fifa

true tho

Not enough goofy sport video games, too much "simulation" games if they can even be called that.

…besides updated rosters. Not saying it’s crucial but that’s literally the reason for most people
