Anyone familiar with this particular firearm? Was thinking of buying this in 44 mag.

Anyone have one? If so, do you like it?

I have this exact rifle. I love it. I bring it to the range with my revolver. I call it cowboy day. A lot of fun to shoot and accurate. I chose Marlin due to the long picatinny rail. Have an optic and magnifier on it. Crazy accurate

Forgot to mention, I chose the 357 since it’s the same caliber as my revolver. Cuts down on the ammo swap

I have a trapper in 45-70. Its my favorite firearm of all time. I’m no “expert” but the fit and finish is as good if not better than any lever gun on the market today. If you like lever guns you will love this. I bought it as a family heirloom, knowing it will never get banned and will always be cool. $1350 is a little high, but I doubt you’ll regret spending the money. My 2¢

Ironically, the trapper variant is banned for hunting in Canada due to having too short of a barrel.

Have an SBL in .45-70, absolutely love mine. Fit and finish is phenomenal. Handles the pissing hot loads from Garrett and Underwood wonderfully.

I got into hand loading specifically to make pissin hot loads for mine. I’m getting about 3 foot fireballs and probably 70lbs of recoil energy. I love big bore man

Priced a bit high. I just got one in .357/38 spl and love it. Actually just got it out to the range for the first time today. I’d look around and try to pay $900\~. I paid $750 for a “unfired preowned” one at my LGS. It has a peep sight which I’m not a fan of; however, I love everything else about it. If you can get one for $900, use the spare $300 on a rail and optic and you’re golden. Also, the loop is huge, which is nice as I have big mitts.

Familiar with it. Have it. Bought it new. Love it in every possible way. Shot it often.

One of my best friends has that one and sold it for double what he paid for during Covid. Best gun I've ever shot by a long...shot.

Get it. I have 2 levers in .44 mag (a Marlin and a S&W) and a Marlin SBL in 45-70. The .44 levers are some of my favorite to shoot. Marlin under Ruger is making really nice guns and fit and finish are great. You won’t be disappointed spending a little more for something you’ll keep for a very long time.

Marlin makes great lever guns, but only you can decide what it is worth to you. Are you set on Marlin?
yourMommaKnow@reddit (OP)
Not set on Marlin. Its just something I came across on buds guns. The cheapest I can find it $900 with wood furniture.
_Zero_Fux_@reddit
Honestly you just need the gun itself, forget about the furniture. Magpul just released a pretty baddass furniture set for marlins.
Matt3855@reddit
If you want it, get it.
Lever guns are expensive now because they got popular.
Even if Marlin had remained JM, they would have still hit the $1k point eventually.

I’ve got a pre safety 1894 in .357. It was my granddads and I got it after he died. I try to shoot a deer every season with it. Damn good gun. Has a little trouble feeding the first few rounds but damn accurate for a pistol caliber. I’ve been getting solid 1 moa groups out of it with hand loads
WillBrink@reddit
Can't speak to that specific rifle, but Marlin has been making lever guns for a mighty long time. $ seems tad high though.
AhrimTheBelighted@reddit
I've been really wanting a Marlin SBS in .357 just because ammo.
MCX6_@reddit
I think lever guns are way too high in price. I think they are cool but wouldn't buy one unless I've already bought all the other guns I ever wanted first.
nanneryeeter@reddit
I have an 1894 in 45-70. Lot of fun. Factory sights are trash but the trapper comes with improved sights.
3006mv@reddit
Get that Brazilian model 92
DashMcGee@reddit
Henry might save you a few hundred dollars.
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
I've got that same rifle in both .44 and .357. If you buy one, get the ranger point precision loading gate. Makes it much easier to load. Other than that, they're great guns that will last forever.
iraisecane@reddit
If you do that price is way too high
