Help choose what GPU to buy-RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6900XT

Hello guys! I am building a brand new PC form scratch for the first time for around $830 (or £620) and I have had to compromise on my CPU - picking a Ryzen 5 3600 and opting for a new 256GB NVMe SSD which I'll pair with a 500GB HDD and now stuck in this dilemma of picking between RTX 3080 and RX 6900XT. both are the same price right now at around $430 = around £320 used. Ill be mainly playing AAA games witht eh casual indie game and mc with shaders and ultra settings @ 1440 120hz monitor. Should I go between these 2 GPU's? If so which one? or should i downgrade the GPU a bit and buy a better used CPU/SSD? Thanks!

The Ryzen 5 3600 will bottleneck both of those cards pretty noticeably at 1440p, especially in CPU heavy AAA games. It's worth reconsidering the balance.
Between the two GPUs the RX 6900 XT edges out the 3080 at 1440p in most titles and has more VRAM which helps with modern AAA games and Minecraft shaders.
But genuinely, swapping to a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X would make a bigger difference to your overall experience than choosing between these two GPUs. It's a drop-in upgrade on most B450/B550 boards and significantly better for gaming. You could pair it with an RX 6700 XT or RTX 3080 and have a much more balanced build for the same money.

Arc b 580 or amd 9060xt 16gb and get a r5 7500f if you can go am5

3080 destroys both of those.
dsinsti@reddit
In consumption yes it does, in VRAM sure it does not.

Brother it is not even close to the same real world performance. For 90% of users both the 3070 ti and 3080 dumpster both of those cards.

If not a 3600 does great with a rx 66700.

3080 all day.

If you're not touching RT, 6900xt. If you are, 3080.

3080 and it's not even close, the problem with 6900xt is lack of support, DLSS 4 works on 3080 and looks better than ever. 3080 has also much better ray tracing performance, is slightly cooler and lower wattage.

Aim for 6950xt, just costs a little more. If not go 6000xt

RX 6900 XT no-brainer. 3080 is a beast..but more so for eSports hi-refresh builds as it has a ton of raster performance but lacks frame gen
6900 XT has both..so go for that

3080 would be my choice, despite the 10gb VRAM
You’d likely be using DLSS which the 3080 still has access to the latest version
