First car?

Hey, I’m about to get my driver’s license soon and I’ve been thinking about what a good first car could be. I live a bit away from my high school, so I’ll be using the car every day for fairly long distances. I’m also a young guy, so something with a bit of power would definitely be a plus.
I’ve been considering either a BMW 320d or a Seat Ibiza. I only have basic knowledge about cars, so I wouldn’t be able to fix it myself if something breaks. My budget is around 100k swedish crowns which is about 10800 usd and I’m planning to buy used.
I’d really appreciate all the tips you have on BMWs — what’s reliable and what isn’t. I’ve heard that the BMW 320d has a timing chain and that it’s not exactly super reliable?? I’d prefer an automatic, but manual is fine if it’s a really nice car.
Give me all the advice you’ve got, thanks! 🙏

dont get a bmw. Buy something japanese if you don't know how to work on cars. Old bmw's are very unreliable and costly to maintain. Only buy an old bmw if you could buy it twice.

Old BMW are more reliable than new ones. My 25 Z3 has been a model of reliability. Newer BMW have tons of plastic parts that break easily when the cars get old. Older cars are much simpler and last forever with good maintenance!

Bro, get any BMW with M57 Motor under 200-230,000 km and have the fun of your life. This motor is reliable and with a proper maintenance can last long, up to 500k km.
Manual or automatic? I'd recommend a manual one, easier and cheaper to repair, makes drifting funnier.
Within your budget you could check also 5 series E39, 3 series E90/E92, pretty fresh but affordable cars for young guy. In this range you can find a decent car, forget that seats, opels, fiats etc. I'm not a hater of other cars but trust me, BMW is a must-have experience.

Yeah i have always wantes BMW but people like to say that i should buy a shitbox for my First car🙄🙄 Thanks for the advice🙌🙌

Old BMWs are your perfect shitboxes to learn how to drive, how to drift, how to have fun.
They are also affordable, if you scratch it, it is still an old car, these engines can forgive you some mistakes and as said, if its a clean BMW with nice M Paket and rims, tinted windows, it looks automatically more expensive than it actually is. It's still up to you, cuz you know your realities (budget, local taxes, costs) better than me

I won't tell you about which car specifically to buy, buy something that's known to be fairly reliable and make sure it was taken care of
On a side note, buy a car that you like, where driving won't feel like a chore :) I think it's an important aspect that isn't talked about often! Nothing worse than feeling like you are forced to drive. Enjoy it.
