FIFA rebrands stadium in Arlington to Dallas Stadium

In the past I've heard Arlington city people have steam come out of their ears when TV people say Dallas when referring to Arlington. Now it's on a international scale. LMFAOOO

I've lived in Arlington all my life and when ppl ask me where I'm from most of the time I just say Dallas. I've never gotten offended by Arlington getting called Dallas or anywhere in DFW getting called by any other DFW-adjacent name. The team is also called the Dallas Cowboys. I dont know why Arlington folks get so worked up about it.
mvsr990@reddit
No one's offended unless they have a blood relationship to Tom Vandergriff.
It's funny. Arlington spent a billion dollars building Jerry a stadium only for it to be constantly written out of the picture. A billion dollars for acres of parking lots and a few part time jobs.
North Arlington is so much shittier than it was before the Cowboys came to town (which is saying something). Driving up 157 from the railroad tracks to 30 is actively depressing.
For Jerryworld events, all the real money flows to Fort Worth or Dallas. At least the three Rangers stadiums put some butts in seats for a lot of normal weeknights when local businesses (read: restaurants and bars) could use a little boost.
drinkywolf@reddit
The people who care are the ones whose tax dollars go to fund a billionaire’s football team while receiving no recognition and getting belittled when they suggest that they should be recognized for it.
Frankly, the taxpayers there should never have voted for a team to come to their city without changing their name. The Dallas Cowboys should be the Arlington Cowboys if Jerry wanted their next 50 years to be in that city.
I don’t see the Raiders moving to Vegas and still being the Oakland Raiders. Vegas paid for a team and they are the Las Vegas Raiders now damn it. Arlington paid for a team and… just foots the bill. And the traffic. And the constant belittling of their town.
Pretty wild.
sir_whirly@reddit
Yeah the only people that get upset about calling the DFW area Dallas are the 5 people actually from Fort Worth.
AbueloOdin@reddit
They won't have that issue when the Cowboys move to the next suburb that will pay for their stadium.
Return-of-Trademark@reddit
Hopefully that means Arlington can finally get some public transportation
mvsr990@reddit
Grew up in Arlington, the argument back then was literally "but it'll bring the poors."
Which is baffling in retrospect since Arlington has a pretty low median income for DFW. The poors weren't riding into town, we already lived there!
Ruggerx24@reddit
Don't hold your breath....Do you know how much Jerry makes in parking?
BenTheHokie@reddit
How many years does that guy have left anyway
NightFire19@reddit
Frisco. Next to the new Universal Park.
Necessary_Jacket3213@reddit
How long do stadiums last? The current cowboys stadium has lasted already almost twenty years. The stadium itself is probably paid off. Right next to one of the busiest airports in the nation. With nearby access to Arlington regional. I would put my money on the early renew to go through and the cowboys being there til the 2050’s. Dallas is about to lose the stars and or mavericks. I don’t feel like there’s a good place for them to move without it costing a ton. Jerry is 83 and will probably die before the stadium is moved again
ElGranQuesoRojo@reddit
W/the way sports teams burn through stadiums these days I wouldn't be surprised if rumblings of leaving for a new place start here in 5-10 years.
electricgotswitched@reddit
They are about to extend the current lease to 2055. Originally set to expire. Along with it comes $1b in renovations that Arlington pays $225m.
shedinja292@reddit
Looks like Arlington is going to pay them even more to keep them
Professional-You1425@reddit
The Dallas Cowboys should honestly be the Arlington Cardealers
Snobolski@reddit
They're the dealership that occasionally wins the tri-state sales competition but never does better than that.

I don’t understand the benefits of subsidizing FIFA. I doubt the economic benefits of hosting these games are going to come close to the amount of taxpayers money spent on it. To add insult to injury, the average person can’t even attend the games because of FIFA sanctioned scalping.
kangaroolifestyle@reddit
Imagine if we converted sports teams into a type of community nonprofit and profits went back to their local communities. Imagine how transformative that could be. Tax payer subsidized seems to bass-ackwards to me.
zatchstar@reddit
They are doing this to every stadium that’s hosting games. They have a rule to not allow any branding that isn’t directly giving FIFA money.
HermannZeGermann@reddit
They are rebranding them to [Host City] Stadium, that is true. What is funny here is the rebranding to Dallas Stadium, not Arlington Stadium.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
I think they’re doing the same thing with MetLife in Jersey. Shame!
broniskis45@reddit
And in Tarrant County lmao
TheWizard@reddit
Outside of Texas, DFW is Dallas, much less outside of the USA. It is not uncommon to hear "flights boarding for Dallas" while in Europe for flights to DFW (and yes, that airport is also in Tarrant County).
SheJigOnMySawTilIPuz@reddit
It's funny how pressed people are about this because I've lived in DFW my entire life and always, always just say I'm from Dallas when talking to outsiders. Nobody knows wtf you're talking about if you say you're from Mansfield or Euless or Carrollton. It's all the same shit. DFW may as well be its own country inside of Texas and that country is named Dallas to anyone who's not from Dallas.
TheWizard@reddit
I suspect most of these people havent stepped out of Texas (even within Texas, people rarely recognize many cities). I lived in Fort Worth downtown for a bit and when I told people in other states I am from Fort Worth, there is a look about they dont know where that is… I cut the chase short and say: Dallas.
In fact, I almost always see international airports with flights to DFW call it “Dallas”… to speak the whole thing is quite geeky to begin with.
noncongruent@reddit
More than a third of DFW Airport is in Dallas County. The county line runs up along the east edge of the taxiway closest to the east side terminals. Near as I can tell it's Taxiway K.
BoffaDDNuts@reddit
Europe doesn’t care
TheWizard@reddit
The terminals are all in Tarrant County.
noncongruent@reddit
Except for the FedEx terminals.
TheWizard@reddit
Would apply to people arriving in packages.
noncongruent@reddit
That's the next innovation in low-cost air fair: Cargo Class. Packed safely in a ULD with two protective wraps of bubble wrap.
TheWizard@reddit
Either way, it will still be called "Dallas", regardless of the county the passenger is delivered.
smokybbq90@reddit
Looking forward to this being posted 2x a week for the next 7 weeks
NJB9891@reddit
The only thing Arlington is known for is a cemetery that’s 1,200 miles away. Naming it “Arlington Stadium” would be ridiculous.
P.S. - if you live in Arlington and this upsets you, no one cares.
Dallas_Cowboys50@reddit
Not to mention, without Dallas, most Metroplex suburbs either wouldnt exist, or theyd be small towns at best.
Operator_Starlight@reddit
Oh gods, don’t threaten me with a good time. This place was better off before it became a sprawling mess of traffic and concrete.
IamtheDoc1@reddit
But I like sunning myself on the warm concrete like the cold-blooded reptile I am!

Arlington is very MAGA. I go there for Wings games and dine out and overheard a local bash WNBA. I can't wait for the Dallas Wings to move to Dallas because I hate giving Arlington and their business my money if they hate the WNBA so bad.
IranianLawyer@reddit
I wonder how AT&T feels about paying tens of millions of dollars per year to have naming rights, then having their name erased for the biggest sporting event in the world.
WestHistorians@reddit
I'm sure this was specified in the contract when they bought the naming rights.
KartFacedThaoDien@reddit
I'm pretty sure they knew that would be the case if the stadium hosted the world cup. It would be the same if the stadium got soccer games for the her Olympics in LA. They would call it Dallas Stadium.
cryptohorn@reddit (OP)
Same. Feels like a missed opportunity. I always hear Bank of America commercials mentioning World Cup
zaptorque@reddit
this has been known for well over a year
GustavusAdolphin@reddit
This has been common knowledge for at least a year now. Great reporting, Fox4
Specialist_Craft7056@reddit
So much of the growth has been moving north in DFW, I wouldn't be surprised if there's already land purchased in Celina for the next Cowboys stadium to be built in 20yrs or so.
Emotional-Loss-9852@reddit
Arlington taxpayers must be fuming
Austinsfinest512@reddit
I can't wait to not go to any of these games!
jsmeeker@reddit
Everyone still gonna call it Jerry World
ralpes@reddit
If they’d name that Arlington stadium, many international visitors would book their flights to DC.
gr0uchyMofo@reddit
They’ve called it “Dallas Stadium” since it was announced as a host city.
slowthinker64@reddit
It’s happening everywhere. All the name rights holders for stadiums are changing names to the city name
