The problem with such predictions is, that nowadays the markets are driven by the desire of the big players to make money and no longer (always) by fair value and common sense. It seems lucrative for them to flush out (over)leveraged players.
That makes it so hard for the average Joe. The big players have deep pockets and have all the insights and insider info.
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
Who cares what the stock market is doing, it has nothing to do with prepping. There are real physical shortages coming down the pipe.

The 500+ million barrels of oil that hasn’t made it to market over the past 6 weeks for starters- Helium, nitrates, aluminum
thismightbetheway2@reddit
I'm honestly curious on what would be wise to stock up on.
HomoExtinctisus@reddit
Whatever you're short on.
Yashkamr@reddit
Tomatoes for one. They're already historically high in price. Many restaurants are not getting their orders filled because it's $100+ for a 25# box. Go check out some of the restaurant subs.
AccordingBiscotti600@reddit
you're missing the point.
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
I am redefining the point
hera-fawcett@reddit
when the majority of actions have a large pre move and post move of money in the markets, its ez to see that, in some ways, the market still has information to give.

Interesting way of saying “late stage capitalism”
DontRememberOldPass@reddit
The 125th anniversary of calling everything you don’t like “late stage capitalism” is coming up next year.
Stop trying to edgy and cool and recognize that you are fundamentally part of the problem. By dismissing cronyism and corruption as simply an economic policy you are doing exactly what helps the elites the most - framing the problem as inherently required for us to have a functioning society.
I understand that a quirky punchline allows you to vent without going through the difficult work of critical thinking about causes and solutions, but don’t encourage others to throw in the towel too.
dunkslapper@reddit
Yes, criticism is surely the way to get people motivated to support your cause
Worshipme988@reddit
Its been proven that even when people are presented with information, data and facts at odds with their opinion, they dont update their understanding of the topic.
So be as petty as youd like DontRemember….
MidSinglesInYourArea@reddit
I mean, that critique only holds if you think that capitalism is "inherently required for us to have a functioning society" which I would wager the person you're replying to does not believe.

Monday? Time to stock up on... stocks and oil shorts for when we get 'truths' about peace talks and declaring victory, and the end of the war again as soon as the kids and rich friends have their trades in.
LankyGuitar6528@reddit
Welp... that was wild. Just came back from costco. I guess you guys shop at the same one I was at? Hooolllly crap was it busy. Palates of cans, soup, rice, beans... going going... and dog food. Who the hell knew that would go so fast? Big empty spots where the dog food should be.
StarsFaithful@reddit (OP)
If you are willing, what state are you located in and what time of day were you at Costco?
LankyGuitar6528@reddit
This was Calgary Canada. But it's not all dog sled races, hocky and curling up here. We actually do get news. A few of us are paying attention.

At this point the only thing that catches my attention is the involvement of other global actors or a nuclear weapon. I’m too tired to care about anything else, sadly

Also if anyone shouts "it finally happened everyone!"
Because we all know what that thing will be, and it will feel so cathartic.
TehSeksyManz@reddit
Yeah, I'm fucking exhausted.
Salt_Sir2599@reddit
That’s the point. They want everyone to stop caring.
ZixfromthaStix@reddit
Nobody is saying they’ve stopped caring. But speaking personally I’ve been anxious non-stop for 3 weeks straight. My stomach is starting to hurt regularly and my sleep is affected. I’m irritable and scared leading to more frequent lashing out.
I care. But the thing is the shit is spiraling so fast now that I’ve had to adapt my goals.
I’ve given up on American society. I hope we pull through but I’m expecting rolling brownouts leading to a grid collapse situation. Nothing I’ve read from any industry or subject matter expert has given me any hope for what is happening and what will follow.
I no longer care about the legacy of this country. Our future is as dark if not steadily worse than the history. At this time I can only afford to care for my friends, family, and neighbors.
I care about surviving, and I don’t mean struggling to live either. Homestead style. But not nearly as modern or connected as a luxury “choice” homestead…
I think all Americans are going to need to adapt to some level of homestead life in the next decade, save for the best of the best traders or craftspeople who can keep larger towns alive.
I just don’t have the energy or time to have hope that the situation will get better before it’s worse.

Imagine if people had just paid attention to politics instead of taking them for granted lmao population on average is cognitively inhibited & propaganda has created an entire alternative reality that isn’t just in the corners of forums but emanating from the WH
Toruk-Makto44@reddit
This is similar to something my fiancée and I were talking about recently, we’re both 25, college educated and have always been curious as to why politics were seen as “taboo conversation” at any point in time (when we were children and our parents never talked about politics with their friends), it makes no sense to us. Just like today, we’re like “the topic is whether or not all American children, regardless of their home income, deserve to be offered free meals with our tax dollars” that is so far from something that should divide people I don’t even know where to start, and yet that has divided to many.
Traditional-Emu-6344@reddit
Same here.
Ellecram@reddit
What can any of us do anyways?
I've got enough to deal with just managing to survive.
I check the news everyday and I am exhausted from it all.

Hate to do this to you but he is threatening to glass the entire country again, so nukes may or may not be on the table.
Of course, at this point there is a good chance he is also just playing the market again so who tf knows
https://www.commondreams.org/news/trump-blow-up-iran
Malcolm_Morin@reddit
He's doing it the exact same way he did it two weeks ago. Threaten to destroy Iran, then two hours before the deadline, suddenly they made a deal and agreed to something that Iran never actually agreed to.
Then two weeks later, he'll do it all again.
The only way anything different happens is when it happens.
No_Possible_7108@reddit
Hard to believe we are only a year and a couple months into his second term
PurpleCableNetworker@reddit
I can’t wait for the mid terms so the power dynamics changes and we can finally stop this non sense.
Malcolm_Morin@reddit
Assuming they don't simply ignore the results and continue to run the government as is.
And people are so neutered now, they'll let it happen thinking weekend protests will fix it.
The only way things change is if Trump is quite literally dragged out of the White House by the military.
InDirectX4000@reddit
He doesn’t need nukes to blow up the whole country. In the Korean war the US destroyed up to 90% of North Korea’s buildngs using only conventional bombs. The confirmed JDAM (precision conventional bomb) stockpile the US has is confirmed to be enough to blow up at least 11% of Iran’s buildings. With dumb gravity bombs (which the US would use in this kind of campaign) they can probably blow up the majority of Iran.
No_Possible_7108@reddit
Thanks for the explanation, I don't really have any prior knowledge of bombs and stuff other nukes = really bad.
I really hope he is just doing the usual market manipulation crap

But that gives kind of a lot credit to him and his team so idk
TeaSea5699@reddit
I am seeing on reels/TT that the military leaders forced him out of the room during planning to rescue that downed pilot due to fears he would botch it with his loud mouth. If true that gives me the impression he doesnt actually have full control for that nuke button. Big if though.

I have long thought whomever is in charge of coordinating getting him the football would do everything to delay and re-direct.
claimstoknowpeople@reddit
I think the primary thing we'll see from this (other than higher gas prices) will be more expensive food due to fertilizer prices, but that's some months out. Still might be worth checking your stock of rice and beans and imperishables now.

If I knew someone was taking one of my ships I would load it with explosives and set it off when they took it ( whoops gas leak)

The war will rage on and the stock market is likely to continue climbing. If it dips, it will be bought. Life in the US will go on as if nothing is happening (the exception being families of service members, who no doubt living with much heightened anxiety).
I haven’t come across a single person here in the US who has any interest in, much less anxiety about, the war with Iran. Which is crazy to me, but there you have it.

I'm still considering the sulfuric acid issues and how that plays into the metals markets.
SharperSpork@reddit
As in copper?
I recall reading about chaos from lack of naphtha and I think it was helium supplies, but that’s a first I’ve heard abut sulfuric acid being impacted…
Sinister_m71@reddit
Helium is actually a big player considering it’s medical use.
tigerdogbearcat@reddit
And helium is a critical requirement for the etching steps in the production of integrated circuits and advanced chips.
grahamfiend2@reddit
I personally am still hopeful for a peace deal in due time. Each side is currently increasing their bargaining position by flexing the power they have.
Will it happen tomorrow? Probably not. Maybe in a few weeks after several more incidents and ceasefire violations.
PS - my crackpot theory is that Trump didn’t send Vance to this next round of alleged talks because he thinks there is a higher chance of success and doesn’t want Vance to get the credit.
Eeny009@reddit
Trump doesn't have the mental ability to know what time it is, all his and our calculations are wrong.
Arglival@reddit
Do you actually think he can't tell the time?
webearwebull@reddit
I read conflicting info on this. Is it confirmed that the VP is not part of the delegation?
grahamfiend2@reddit
I don’t think anyone really knows but Vance lol
I read it on CNN though.
Sudden-Ad-1217@reddit
Calls it is….
btspman1@reddit
On Monday he’ll announce another two week truce. Which Iran will then deny as the cycle continues.
great--pretender@reddit
I’m not sure this will have a huge impact, since expectation drives most action. We expected ships to be seized. So did the Iranians. I doubt this specific incident changes much personally
Brief-Floor-7228@reddit
Iran has been sticking to the well understood game of tit-for-tat with escalation. So they will blow something up to be sure.
great--pretender@reddit
Agreed, though still not unexpected, nor escalatory. I think you’re 100% right, but I do not think it changes the larger picture
StarsFaithful@reddit (OP)
Thank you. I was worried about retaliation and escalation from this too.
