What are your favorite cars you owned?

Just curious, as a bunch of us have owned many cars throughout the years. What are your favorite to least favorite vehicles you’ve owned? I put my list below.
1) 2022 Toyota Tundra (no engine issues, great tech, comfortable and capable)
2) 2014 Toyota Tundra (flawless reliability, capable, lacking in tech and interior)
3) 2008 Ram 1500 (nice drive, capable, had lifter issues on the hemi, no frills interior)
4) 2014 Toyota 4Runner (reliable, realized I needed to get back in a truck, rougher ride and seats compared to the ram and tundra)
5) 2003 Dodge Dakota (simple, reliable, capable)
6) 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse (first car, had a soft spot for it, had the V6 and was able to beat my friends in their civics and corollas)
7) 2005 Saturn Ion (ass, but got me from point a to point b)

2004 dodge caravan 2.4L
0-60 of fuck all, but it hit peak torque around 2-3k so it was not that bad to drive. It was the one car I could just mash the pedal to the floor whenever I wanted. The mpgs were hardly effected by WOT and it made too little torque to be worried about the transmission.
The van was just so simple there was no unnecessary part in it. Nothing ever broke on it except for the sway bar end link. Never had a leak.
It was great in winter due to high ground clearance.
You could remove all of the seats and have more storage than a pickup when the kids went to college.
Lost it at 140k when it got t-boned. Still miss it to this day.

Favorite (top 4)
2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail - plenty of power, great tow capacity, good tech, comfy cruiser. (current car)
1970 Pontiac GTO - Self explanatory (still have it)
2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE 5-speed - Rush to drive
1986 Mazda 626 GT sedan (also 5-speed) - rush to drive
Least favorite (Bottom 4)
1996 Chrysler Sebring convertible JXi - horrible handling, and one of the least reliable cars I've owned. Soured me on Chrysler products.
1997 Ford Contour - nice car, but the parking brake would freeze in winter.
1987 Hyundai Excel GLS - GLS stands for gutless little sucker.
1995 Mazda Millenia - another quite unreliable car. Had electrical gremlins, and the transmission went out at about 85K miles.

Subaru BRZ, NA Miata (same reason, different seasons). Gt350 and f type svr, hilarious to drive an American car with a flat plane and a British car that makes hillbilly noises. F150 platty hybrid for daily. M550i (used, highly depreciated like the svr, warranty, road trip massaging luxe missile)

Mk7 Gti It’s been fun, and seems to do everything pretty well! Has been reliable for me (I keep on top of maintenance on or before schedule) And has some nice things like heated leather and can parallel park itself. All in all it’s the best daily I’ve had

I have the luxury of having a motorcycle as a commuter, if I didn’t have that then my list might be ordered differently.

2.0 NA. At the time I actually wanted a used Accord Sport 2.0T, but they were are so rare with the manual. The Civic was at my local dealership, brand new, and I got .99% financing.
canudigit365@reddit
I actually have the 2024 6MT sport, I almost actually pulled the trigger on a used 2.0t manual accord myself but couldn't justify the size and loss of mpgs compared to the civic and versatility of the hatch.

I currently own my favorite car, a 2013 VW GTI. When I was a young pup, I had a 69 Camaro, 71 Camaro, 82 Trans Am, 82 Celica GTS, 84 Civic CRX. Fun cars, but the GTI beats them all IMHO.

1) 2025 Tacoma TRD OR. (love it to death and can’t wait to keep building it. 2) 2017 Tacoma TRD sport (had this for 6 months. Taught me I actually do want a track and like Toyotas.) 3) 2014 S5. (dream car. Best band for buck on the planet. Insane car. Absolutely loved every single minute of the time I had it. 4) 2012 A5. (burned oil like it went thru gas. Very nice interior and the AWD was just peak…of course.) 5) 2010 S5. (Wow. Best sounding V8 imo. As you can see I had a thing for the b8 chassis. Still love it. Awesome car that sounds phenomenal. Interior has aged well. Same for the 2 other Audis above.) 6) 2012 TSX. (Had junior / senior year of high school. Great car for a teenager. Was nice enough to not feel out dated but good on gas, reliable.) 7) 2012 Mazda 3. (First car. Got it when it was only 5 years old. Liked it at the time. Looking at them now, I hate them.)

2005 RX-8. Was my first sporty car and the thing cornered like it was on rails. The 9k redline was addictive. Sound of spinning Doritos is like nothing else. Had a 2005 S2000 years later and while I loved that car, I still missed the RX-8 more

Not in any particular order:
Honda S2000 - this was my dream car in high school and I finally bought one pre-inflation when I graduated college. Sure it had its flaws, but was one of the funnest cars I ever drove. Sold it because my daily got totaled and replaced it with a Type R which caused me to park this car long term so figured I’d capitalize on it instead.
Honda Civic Type R - this car was perfect and solved all the issues I had with dailying an S2000. I was also to consolidate it down to a one car garage which saved a lot of money long term. I even moved houses in this car. Sold it because CA gas tax was getting to be too much. Also was suffering from an injury from my car accident, which led me to working out causing me to physically outgrow the seats for my height.
Toyota bZ - I honestly lost interest in cars after I got rid of the Type R and ventured into EVs. After some unfortunate dealings with my prior EV, I bought this car and it’s everything that I need currently to take care of both myself and my aging parents. They love the car and this car was every much an upgrade from my last EV.

1994 Toyota Tercel, 4 speed manual, 2 door. It lived on the rev limiter and got a steady 35-40 mpg
1985 Dodge W350 Air Force crew cab short bed. I 12v Cummins and 5 speed manual swapped it. Got an average of 20-24 mpg topped out at 70mph with the gearing.
1997 F250 7.3 power stroke, 5 speed manual extended cab short bed. Squashed by an excavator
1971 F250 Camper special 2wd Big block, 4 speed

My first car was a green 1993 Tercel 2 door 4spd! I could not kill that thing. It would just bounce off the rev limiter for days. Even tried to kill the clutch but couldn't lol. It had no AC and I was in GA. My dad said I had to keep it until it died. Had that thing for 3 years before I saved up enough and got a 2000 Eclipse GT

A late 90’s cobra with a manual and a Nissan or Toyota old pickup with 4wd and manual transmission are the only two older vehicles I realistically want to own, but both are so hard to find now. Can’t even find a decent single cab Tacoma 4wd with MT. If I win the lottery though, it will be a CT5V Blackwing with the manual transmission.

2015 Chevrolet Impala LTZ. It was fast (305 hp) yet got 30 mpg on the highway, it was comfortable on long road trips, it handled well, it was good-looking, and it was so loaded with options that it was basically a poor man's Cadillac. I almost felt as if Chevrolet custom built it personally for me.
Unfortunately it got totalled in a hailstorm 4 years ago but I did get an unexpectedly generous settlement from my insurance company that made for a very nice down payment on my second favorite vehicle, which is a 2022 Colorado Z71.

Curious why the Camaro was #1. I had them as rental cars a few times (obviously not ZL1’s) but I just found them uncomfortable with terrible visibility. Had plenty of challengers and chargers as rentals I preferred.
Aj2130@reddit
Visibility is bad but the ZL1s have the rear view mirror camera so blind spots aren’t really a thing. The drivability of the ZL1 is insane and incredibly fun. Car is also lightly modded and making probably around 700 wheel so it’s a fun time. I always loved my dodges but trying to modify anything other than a hellcat is not worth the amount you spend for the gains you get.

Easy. My 2003 Chevy Astro van. I bought it from my aunt for $300 in 2010. I took it to 49 out of 50 states, and most of Canada. 2 years on the road with my dog. Best two years of my life.
The van never failed me. I never broke down or got stuck. I took it through 14 inches of snow and it just kept on trucking. Did it have AC? Not really. Was it good on gas? Meh. Was it a good looking vehicle? Absolutely.
I ended up getting rear ended, and it was totaled. Ill never forget that van.

2008 Honda Civic Si: It lived up to the hype. Sadly, the K20 cracked its block at 200K miles and I had to replace it with a JDM K24a for cost reasons, but it's fun with that motor in a different way. The torque and short gearing are hilarious just banging around town. Otherwise, it's a Civic sedan, practical if a bit thirsty by Civic standards due to the K24 running on premium.
2002 Honda Civic Si: It had the nerfed K20, but a 6 speed swap from an RSX Type S so it felt quicker than it was. Kind of ugly, but the front seats were huge, the hatch had enough space, and it had surprisingly good ground clearance so it was a great delivery car.
1991 Honda Accord: My first car, a coupe with the five speed. It was a beater but reliable by beater standards until the end. Very comfortable car, the perfect size. It drove nicer than a car older than I was with over 200K miles had any right to, was good on gas for the time, and while it was no speed demon the 5 speed was geared well and made the most of what it had, great highway car.
2002 Mazda Miata: Pick your poison, a soft top that leaks or a hardtop that rattles. Would've been nicer if it wasn't modded, and the coilovers weren't that bad, but the headers and exhaust were way too loud for my liking and somehow it got worse fuel economy than my '08 Si that weighs 500lbs more, has 50 more horsepower, and has actual space for stuff. Additionally, it's almost motorcycle like in how other drivers will not see you.
2017 Mazda 3 GT. It's a nice car (aside from the leather falling apart), and a great highway car, but the gearing is too tall for it to feel fun and it feels a bit like driving an SUV. It would've been better with 17 inch wheels instead of the 18 inch wheels with expensive low profile tires.
2009 Toyota Yaris. It's a well made, reliable tin can with enough torque to get you around town and a surprising amount of space but it's a tin can, and handled like crap at speed/on a highway. It took a lot of abuse as a full-time delivery car.
2010 Chevy Cobalt XFE coupe. Mediocre/fine on good days, but mine was definitely a Monday car and probably had as much in warranty work done to it as I paid for it. The highway gears made it feel like a slug in town, but it did what GM said it would and got good mileage on the highway. The interior was awful, toy quality plastic and cloth seats that were impossible to clean/keep clean. Bad rearward visibility. I changed the oil on time and the timing chain was still starting to rattle on startup at 85K miles before I wrecked it.

I have an older Land Rover now and love it, but it feels flashy. If it looked more like a sleeper, it would def make this list. Maybe in 10 more years it won't look so much like an oligarch/car service mobile.

My grandfather was a dealer, so I ran through a few cars in my first few years of driving as I could buy them at auction, make some minor upgrades, and sell them for a profit in a year or two. Sold the eclipse for the Ion because I was going to college a few hours away and knew I’d be making trips back home. Dakota because I got in construction, ram because I needed a bigger truck, 4Runner because I was having kids, Tundra because I was destroying the trunk of my 4Runner, Civic because Covid and wasn’t necessarily needing the truck, new Tundra because I liked it and I was needing starting to visit more job sites as Covid was dying down and hauling materials.

It’s a short list for me.
2016 Golf R - this car had everything I wanted except for low maintenance. I will own another someday
2023 Kona N - current daily. I enjoy this car and was a semi-suitable replacement to the Golf
2013 Civic EX - this was a great car but boring to drive. I only wish it had a little more grunt
1999 Sonoma - I owned this for 17 years. It literally started to fall apart (body mount rotted out one day and it had a hole in the side of the body)
1983 Z28 - this was a second car. It was a fun project but ultimately went away after I purchased my house due to lack of funds

In no particular order ...
1. 2005 Volvo s60r. Decently quick car on a cool day that also handled surprisingly well. Pretty reliable but some parts were shockingly expensive and bespoke to this car. Awesome seats, but rode like buckboard. Has a turning circle wider than a Duramax.
2009 Volkswagen Passat. Not a bad car but too many under hood plastics made the engine less reliable than it could have been. Dodgy electrical components. Deceptively roomy and had as good or better legroom than my truck. If I could give this the Volvo seats it would be a the comfiest car ever.
2006 Toyota Tundra. Unflappingly reliable, but not much in the way of tech. Maintenance items were pricey but it was reliable. Not comfy at all. Would tow much more than it's rated limit but you could tell when it wasn't happy about it.
2015 Ford Fiesta ST. A little riot. The very definition of slow car driven fast. Felt like you were going a million miles an hour at legal speeds. Not fun in traffic but simultaneously very fun to drive in the city or other tight places. Very reliable but not much in the car to go wrong. Stiff ride.
Lexus SC430. The Japanese interpretation of an American land yacht. Had the steering wheel and dash of a Chris craft. Sweet sounding v8 especially with an exhaust. Not fast or powerful but a nice effortless highway cruiser. Reliable to a fault until the sensors start acting up.
Dodge Ram Megacab. Insanely roomy. It's like driving a city bus with a pickup bed. Reliable but the transmission went out at stock power. Dodge interiors are crappy. Gobs torque and effortless towing in the way a naturally aspirated v8 truck cannot match. Good at towing long distance on the highway and that's really it.

2012 Triumph Speed Triple R. Fast, decently reliable, looks/sounds/handles/moves so well. If I'm ever in the position to afford two motorcycles I'll probably never sell it when it comes time to get a second bike. Bought used in 2018.
2012 Cadillac CTS Performance Sportwagon. Comfortable, practical, amazing road trip car, I'm a wagon afficionado, and it's my first (and only) luxury car. I'd have kept it if the gas mileage wasn't so bad while I dated someone who lived an hour away. I wanted the 3.6L V6 (and it needed it, because she's a big heavy girl) and unfortunately the 3.6 only came with an automatic. If it came with a manual I'd probably never have gotten rid of it despite what gas was costing me. Bought used in 2022.
2016 Yamaha FZ-07 (now sold as the MT-07). First motorcycle. More than fast enough for a first bike. I didn't get bored with the performance or looks, just the sound and engine character, and aftermarket options to address those things were limited and expensive due to the exhaust being one solid piece. When I found a good deal on a Speed Triple I knew it was time to let this one go, and while I'll always miss it I don't regret moving on. Bought new in 2016.
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6. I expected to like it a lot less than I do. I only got it because the dealership gave me a deal that was too good to pass up when it was close to lease end on my previous car, but after some time with it and learning what it likes and doesn't it drives like a pretty capable sport sedan. Dynamically it's much better than the Ioniq 5 I had before it. Leased new (obviously) January of this year.
It gets a lot tougher to rank them after this point.
2023 Ioniq 5. Visually stunning for an SUV, benefits from a low center of gravity, and it's packaged very well for passengers and cargo (it brought 4 adults and sufficient luggage for international travel to and from the airport). However the seats made my back hurt in a way no other vehicle has, it just isn't all that exciting to drive, and it had a number of reliability issues that were fortunately all fixed under warranty but it did spend a decent amount of time at the dealer for an EV. Leased new in 2023.
2000 Subaru Legacy L station wagon. My first car, a hand-me-down from my parents. Boxer 4 cylinder with a displacement of Who Gives A Shit paired with a 5-speed manual. Maroon red exterior. I hate red. This thing got me to and from college and work for about 4-5 years. It had a smidge over 100k miles when I got rid of it, and if everything around the motor and trans weren't rusting to pieces it probably would have made it to 200k miles. I learned to drive stick on this car. I was actually sad to see it go at the time.
2013 Subaru BRZ. 6-speed manual, Dark Gray Metallic, Limited with no additional options. The first car I got to buy for myself. I was single with no kids and I wanted a fun car. I was so happy when I got it, and it very quickly turned into a pile of shit that never made me happy again. It was constantly at the dealer for fuel rail pressure sensor issues that they could never quite fix until about year 5 or 6. It left me stranded a bunch, rusted like crazy, and was a magnet for body panel damage for some reason. This is the worst car I've ever owned because it was supposed to be fun and it simply wasn't. However well it drove when it worked didn't make up for all the times it let me down. I'm never buying another Subaru ever again because of this car.

From Favorite to least favorite with a brief reason as to why: 1. '06 Legacy GT ( salvage title, high miles car that was just a blast to drive, reasonably affordable and genuinely a very reliable car despite the Subaru hate. I love this car and will always be a Subaru fan because of it. It also led to my wife and I meeting, my best friend and I meeting, and tons of awesome memories.) 2. '90 GMC Sierra Step Side (My first vehicle. Rusty, faded paint, some weird stories from the previous owner, but a great car with an incredible sound system that my dad and I installed. Sold it because it went through fuel pumps like crazy). 3. '08 Legacy Spec.B (hunted for one because of my GT. Its nicer in absolutely every way from my GT, but it lacks the character and charm. Just not as fun. Its a sweet car though). 4. '00 Honda S2000 (Had for barely a year. Bought it when I first got an adult job. Super clean Grand Prix White with black and Red interior. I wanted to love this car, but it had super high miles, maintenance issues, a starter issue, the top was loud, and I found out after buying it that it had like 11 owners before me). (I personally am not a convertible guy but I planned to put a hard top on it. I lost interest in it before I got to do that. 5. '09 Forester XT (Grandpa spec powder blue with tan interior, boring daily). 6. '98 Legacy Outback (odometer read 17,000 miles. That's not a typo either. I bought it thinking I got the deal of the century but quickly realized a lot of questionable things about it. Lost interest because my mom passed shortly after I bought it and repairs were nearing double what I bought it for ($3500) I also ignored red flags when I bought it too which is on me lol).
P.S. I still own numbers 1,3, and 5.

Well, when a base Prius is $35k out the door and they are hard to get, they just aren't going to be big sellers. My local dealership has 1 Prius in stock, MSRP is almost $40k so what $44 out the door? I bought a Lexus for not much more.

I've had three, and while I enjoyed them at the time (loved my 2001), they are like driving an aluminum can. Road/wind noise and vibration, poor traction/handling, seating felt like a barstool. I wouldn't get another.
flamingknifepenis@reddit
That was my experience. On top of that: a very awkward (for me) seating position, and horrible visibility out of the front and back.
Also I detest oblong steering wheels, but that’s more of a “me” problem.

I used to rent them for work travel because I would do fun stuff outside of work (OK if I paid for fuel), so, it was a good choice. But I hated them from a drivability POV - absolute shit visibility. My favorite car that I've ever owned was a pristine, single owner 2005 Rx-8. Only had 50k miles at the time of purchase and every single bit of maintenance was documented with receipts. This was by far the cleanest example I have ever seen and had the pleasure of owning /driving the hell out of it for a couple years. I sold it at 80k miles because the rotary paranoia got to me. I regret this decision every day and wish I would have just committed to replacing the motor when the time came.
My second favorite is thankfully still in my possession. On the exact opposite side of the spectrum is my 1990 BMW 325is. Got it for $800, it aestetically fit the price. The paint was completely roached, most of the exterior plastic trim was faded and/or shattered, had old bubbling tint that weirdly smelled like old cheese and the interior was destroyed, complete with rat piss soaked carpets and a cigarette burn hole filled headliner. However, there was zero rust and the motor was very healthy and happy to be thrashed around. I have been putting this poor car through hell for the past 7 years while fixing slowly fixing it up and doing every single thing myself. Watching it slowly get better over the years from my own work has been a very rewarding experience. I'll likely never be 100% done with it and certainly won't ever sell it.

This is tough:
1) My 1973 MG Midget that I’ve owned for 42 years. Built the engine to a reliable 95hp (stock was 65) and added a 5 speed gearbox so it holds its own in today’s traffic. It’s a very raw and mechanical driving experience, you actually have to drive this car, become part of it, something most drivers today will never experience.
2) 1990 Honda Civic EX. First new car. The EX model had the CRX engine and 5 speed, it was a blast to drive - so quick and nimble, extremely well made.
3) 2009 Honda Fit Sport. Not fast in a straight line but so much fun to drive!
4) 2025 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid (wife’s current car). I love watching the power distribution display, it’s a marvel of modern engineering.
5) 2025 Honda Ridgeline (my current daily driver). Does everything extremely well, full stop.

I'm feeling very fortunate as I reflect to build this list. In order of ownership:
1990 Acura Integra RS - My first manual after craving one for the first 4-years of driving. This car was so simple (no AC, no sunroof,.manual windows) but light and great handling.
1998 Acura Integra GSR - My first (and only) new car purchase. I could have stretched my budget to a Type R, but felt those were too special for a 20-somethings daily driver. Loved the 8.2k redline.
2006 Acura TSX 6M - Got me through dad life without much compromise in my driving passion. Drove it 11-years and then passed it on to my oldest who drove it through college and to 190k miles with no major repairs.
1990 Miata - Dreamed of owning one since high school. Loved it but it needed major restoration that I did not have time or money for. Regret selling it and will probably get back to one.
2011 BMW 128i - current daily driver. Absolute joy to drive in all conditions. Mine is a unicorn spec 6M slicktop with manual seats and no IDrive. The most basic and pure of BMW's and last of the naturally aspirated, hydraulic steering models.
Next up, the tough decision between another Miata, BRZ or Porsche Cayman. Struggling between affordable, care free driving joy or reaching for the next dream car that comes with possible maintenance/repair risks and maybe a bit too 'precious' (similar to my Type R feelings). My 1990 Miata was wonderful because I didn't frett over it constantly.

1995 Porsche 911. Felt like a custom tailored suit every time I got in.
2022 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 - not necessarily the car but the memories I have made with it due to the places it’s taken me.

1980 Honda Civic wagon — my college beater. Loved the 5-speed manual transmission. We went through some stuff together.
1995 Toyota Corolla wagon —only car I bought new. Was “okay”; disappointed that it started burning oil at only 150,000 miles 😔
2010 Honda Insight — boring to drive, but the cheapest car I’ve ever owned—efficient, cheap to maintain, 244k+ miles…
2020 MINI Cooper SE (EV) — I smile every time I get behind the wheel. A blast to drive. A few quirks and the 100 mile range keep it from being my forever car. 😊

My 1993 Toyota Camry XLE V6 was the best built car I’ve ever owned, and did everything well enough.
My 2004 Acura TL was a blast to drive but had a few annoying issues later in life despite low miles.
My 2016 Durango R/T is the perfect combination of utility, comfort, and performance and has been reliable so far.
My Scat Pack Widebody Charger and 2012 Mustang GT convertible get honorable mention.
I’ve owned many more and have been lucky to have been happy with everything I’ve owed, though some were better than others.

78 lifted Bronco with 7.6L V8 - real Bronco - not the imitation plastic tiny new barbie ones of today that break if they get wet.
1974 914 2.0 with fuchs alloys I Miss taking people out for a drive and turning left abruptly without braking and seeing them shit their pants because you couldn't roll that car if you tried at any speed.
61 VW Commercial delivery double door kombi type 215. Very unique bullet nose panel van with double cargo doors on passenger and driver's sides but with pop out kombi windows down the sides (six total) and a stationary divivider panel with the small window above the bench seat separating the cargo area from the cabin - hence it being a commercial delivery van. Originally sold in Waco Texas. Now in England (uk).

There’re always something broken from brake, transmission to engine but just won’t die. 2001 Saab 93 - fun to drive and reliable. Gave me 220k on mileage before we have to give up because no available parts ( Saab went out of business) 2004 VW Jetta - used car I bought and spent more than 15k repairing it and there’s something major need to be replace every year. With the 10 year time I own, the transmission went down at 130k miles (owned from 2014-2024) terrible decision. 2025 CX5 first new car it’s been perfect!

‘89 BMW 325i - was a few years old with 35k on it when I picked it up. 5 speed with a manual crank sunroof. Wasn’t all that fast or powerful, but holy hell was it a lot of fun to drive. Simple, German engineering at its finest. Loved running through the gears on small roads.
Other fav was a late 90’s Chevy Tahoe 2-door, like the old K5 Blazers before the rebrand to Tahoe. Whatever was the last year those were built is what that Tahoe was. The last “fun” vehicle I owned before marriage and kids forced being a stupid, responsible, adult ;-)

1968 Pontiac Firebird - Sold for the down payment on our house, but it was a great summer cruiser.
1995 Ford Crown Vic - the couch on wheels
1995 Oldsmobile Aurora - got pulled over so many times in this because it was blacked out and looked somewhat exotic at the time. Not reliable, but powerful for the time and size. Hit the speed limiter once and it felt like it had a lot more to give.
2005 Honda Civic EX with 5mt -onlynnew car I ever bought. Put 200k on it, replaced the head gasket and transmission at 100k and 150k respectively. Other than that it just ran every day and was a fun little car to zip around in.
