Everest is 240m taller than K2, make a law that every K2 climber must add a rock to the top, and every Everest climber must bring down a rock , and make them exactly the same !

Obviously K2 would grown slowly, but Everest would shrink much faster! Just keep it up until they are even

You'd need large stable climbable rocks or maybe just bags of concrete so people could still summit either.

Why exactly to they need to be the same height? Is there a prize?

The subreddit isn’t called “Crazy Ideas” without reason, you know

well firstly it’s probably just for shits and giggles.
but honestly since K2 is significantly harder (from what i understand) to climb, i think it would be fitting if it were also taller. just my 2 cents

May I suggest the delightful film The Englishman who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain?

Are you under the impression that the summit of Everest is just a pile of little rocks?

Can you imagine someone carrying a sledge hammer to the top of Mt Everest? And what would happen if they pulled it out and started trying to shorten the mountain?

Given the number of climbers on Everest, it will be at sea level in a couple of years.

It won't be, it is compensated by those who remain there.

imagine explaining this system to geologists like "yeah it's community-driven terrain balancing"

People actually tried this in Colorado, between Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. Their summits differed in elevation by fewer than five metres.
