Today's ration: stroganoff. Made with canned ground beef

1 box of hamburger helper stroganoff from the dollar tree,1 pint of home canned ground beef, 1/2 cup of powdered milk powder , 3 cups water, and 1 small can of mushrooms.
I rarely use mushrooms for anything. I got a few cans almost 5 years ago for making steak and cheese subs, but its been almost 5 years since i made any (ran out of canned steak in July of 2021, haven't canned any since 2018 at the latest). I used to use the Aldi's stroganoff until they started packing it with foil pouch sauce instead of powder, which more than doubled the price. I got hamburger helper 5 for $1 at dollar tree as an alternative (years ago, no idea what it is now).
Anyway, the beef fat in the jar was liquidy since it warmed on the counter, so i poured it in a bowl and put it on the porch for the barn cats. The beef cake i broke up with a fork then put everything in a 2quart sauce pot and boiled on very low heat for about 20 minutes.
Had it around 11 then went for a 2 mile walk at noon since the snow stopped coming down.

Of course we don’t know you well, but I’m glad you have the solitude and environment to heal from what you’ve gone through. And I hope greater happiness is on your horizon.

Looks like beef stroganoff by Hamburger Helper(which I absolutely LOVE for some weird reason… I’m gonna make it tomorrow I guess lol

This is very similar to a meal we often ate as kids in my family. I still make it and it still is a good one.
Ground beef, onion, sour cream, cream of mushroom soup, kluski noodles.

do you live in a fallout shelter or something? that honestly seems like a fine meal, I might be sketched out if someone served it to me after knowing g the backstory, but if you made it yourself, I guess you know if it's safe.

I live in a remote cabin and no power is available, so no refrigerator, hard to get supplies, so every couple years when neighbors (mostly Amish) are culling older dairy cows (only good as ground beef, too old and they are no good for steaks) i will buy 30-40lb cheap and can it up.

nice, I live in a vaguely similar situation, a bit closer to society, it's pretty great to trade for meat and eggs etc.. with my neighbors, there's something special about producing your own food :)

No. Wtf. Home canned ground beef what

Most things can be canned. It looks kind of funny but it tastes fine & is easy to use
My mom canned ground meat & stuff for long term

I raw packed ground beef into a widemouth pint jar then pressure canned it for 90 minutes at 15lb pressure to exceed the temperature of boiling water (making it hit enough to kill anything in the jars while sealing them).
Afterwards the beef is cooked and sterile, lasts as long as its sealed.

I have never in my life heard of canned ground beef
elonmusktheturd22@reddit (OP)
Thats because most people these days have refrigerators
Lopsided_Antelope868@reddit
I have the same Corelle dishes! Bought them in 1992!
AdPuzzled7843@reddit
Not to be the bearer of bad news but they contain lead. I used to have them too growing up and loved them!
Lopsided_Antelope868@reddit
That explains my mental state!

As Homer Simpson said "a lead lick a day keeps the doctor ah-blughhhh... (Starts drooling on himself)"
Was in the game of thrones parody episode

Canned ground beef has gotta be the laziest of all canned meats. Literally just throw ground chuck in a pan, turn on the stove and just mash it around and stir. Literally can't go wrong
VohnHaight@reddit
The hell is canned ground beef kol
elonmusktheturd22@reddit (OP)
Pack raw ground beef in a jar then use a pressure canner to cook/seal it for long term shelf storage

Did you use hamburger helper, and if you did, how old was it?
elonmusktheturd22@reddit (OP)
Yeah, hamburger helper. No idea how old, probably expired 3 years ago
