We call our Robot Vacuum Rosie, from the Jetsons. What everyday objects do you name with pop characters from the 70’s, 80’d or 90’s?
Dr_One_L_1993@reddit
My robot vacuum is Dr. Theopolis, because it's round.
Serious_1@reddit
Is it related to Robert Rowley?
Dr_One_L_1993@reddit
Not sure who that is. It;s actually a character from the 70s Buck Rogers TV series.
Serious_1@reddit
Sorry, I was referring to the tounge twister lyrics from this song by Sonic Animation
mridlen@reddit
The Jetsons is from the 60s actually.
ErNz77@reddit
Years ago when my mom got a GPS she named her Gladys (Knight).
NoSummer1345@reddit
Boob tube.
ratsta@reddit
OK, apparently I'm a bit odd. I don't have names for any of my objects!
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Agreed. Just the names that the manufacture called them.
ratsta@reddit
Indeed. It would be just impolite to call a Henry vacuum cleaner or Billy bookshelf by any other name!

I have a plant named 'Steeb, which is Steve for Captain America. I was sick with the flu when I named it and it came out as 'Steeb' instead, and it stuck. I have another plant named Bucky.

Our cat’s name is Coco, but sometimes we call him Elvis, because he thinks he’s the king. It’s common for someone to announce, “Elvis has left the window.”

Early TV remotes were called a “clicker.”
erilaz7@reddit
My sister and I used to say "Groove with your space commander" (from the Peter Sellers / Ringo Starr movie, The Magic Christian), meaning "Use the remote to change the channel."
Genius-Imbecile@reddit
I find i alternate between call it the clicker or thw channels.
False-Storm-5794@reddit
Our robot vacuum is called Rosie, of course.
SparkyFlorida@reddit
Our Roomba is named Hazel
cuzitsathrowawayday@reddit
Ours is Deirdre and she has big googly eyes!
tuesday__taylor@reddit
Ha! So is ours. And our little one named the second Roomba “Basil” since it rhymed.
SparkyFlorida@reddit
Love it
leaky_eddie@reddit
Ours is Kiko and he’s got a special little something for the lamp. I always find it behind the couch, trying to hump the base.
Seachica@reddit
My Tesla is named KITT
Environmental-Car481@reddit
We had a cat who would eat anything so of course namer her Mikey
swordrat720@reddit
Mikey likes it?
Environmental-Car481@reddit
Yes she did
eurobeez@reddit
This might be niche to Canada or even Ontario but we called the tv remote control a converter
StraightPotential1@reddit
Same and same. I still call it the converter or the channel changer.
Signal_Cake5735@reddit
Our dishwasher is Tubby. I have no adult explanation for this.
swordrat720@reddit
Ours is Becky. It snaps and cracks like a Valley Girl chewing gum. “My nameeeeee is Beckeeeeee, ok”
ElevatorOrganic5644@reddit
Because the television was called the Telly and the next major client she had in your house was a dishwasher.
DocSportello1970@reddit
We have an Igloo brand cooler that we named Lou Adler. You know Lou Adler. Genius record producer. Mama's and Papa's guy. Organizer of Monterrey Bay Festival Summer 1967. L.A. Lou.
So if someone asks "Where is the beer? We say Lou has it, or "get it out of Lou" things like that.
jvlpdillon@reddit
As a Goonies reference, the coffee maker is Chester Coffeepot.
dafuqizzis@reddit
Ha! My coffee maker is always named Chester!
Rredhead926@reddit
Not a character, but our pool vacuum is named Jacques, like Cousteau.
yazzcabbage@reddit
Ours was Jaws
dafuqizzis@reddit
That’s what my dad named ours!
silian_rail_gun@reddit
Ugh - you got this stuck in my head now, figured I'd return the favor :)
Jacques Cousteau - The Young Jacques
NeighborhoodNo4274@reddit
Not exactly a pop character, but my sourdough starter is named Rosalynn, Rosalynn Starter.
Nottacod@reddit
Not Herman?
Phantom_minus@reddit
cigarettes were called Ciggies, as in dude can I bum a Ciggie?
Tasty_Impress3016@reddit
I'm not sure 70s 80s but older names. I name all of my major appliances. When I'm talking it sounds like I have people.
Matilda does the dishes.
Eve does the laundry - she washes and dries therefor has a split personality.
Olga clears the driveway of snow. She's good but she chokes on anything over 8 inches.
LaLunacy@reddit
My Kia Soul is named Aretha.
Kind_Worry_9836@reddit
My cat has a death wish so I nicknamed her Kennedy.
Bladrak01@reddit
I saw where someone named their robot vacuum, "Dirt Reynolds."
LadyNorbert@reddit
That's also the name of the carpet shampooer in the videos from Mountain Valley Rug Cleaners.
LadyNorbert@reddit
My husband and I like to give our cars pop culture names, though not all of the references are from the 70s and 80s. When we met, he was driving a car he called the TARDIS; other cars we've owned have been called Haldir (after the LOTR character who dies at Helm's Deep), KARR (after the evil prototype car from Knight Rider), Tom Sawyer (after the Rush song as much as the literary character), the Dragster of Doom, a.k.a. Doomie (after the sentient werecar from the Beetlejuice cartoon), and Bethany (after the character from Dragon Age II).
hankenator1@reddit
A million dogs named “Bob Barker”.
RobFloridaMan@reddit
My actual name is Rob Barker and we named our dog Barkley Barker
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
We called our canister vacuum R2-D2.
LlamaMamaMandi@reddit
My mom called our Chrysler minivan “Vana White”, paint color was obviously white.
PahzTakesPhotos@reddit
I had a pickup truck that was close to the same shade of red as Tim Curry's lipstick in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", so I called the truck Dr. Frankenfurter, Frankie for short.
