How is a job centre?

I think your appointment will probably be with a work coach. i’ve claimed universal credit before (although only for like 2 weeks as i fortunately got a job before the first payment so I cancelled my claim ) it was essentially , what are you doing to find work, where have you applied so far. making sure you understand that your ongoing eligibility for universal credit payments (if eligible at all) is dependent on looking for work. my work coach suggested shops / companies to go to on the local high street near the job centre to ask if they are hiring. so it was kind of practically like, talking about getting a job. my work coach said something along the lines of ‘I hope I don’t see you many more times for appointments as you’ll have found work’. also pointing out the obvious to me, any full time job on minimum wage pays more than universal credit I was going to get. I’d say though , stand up for yourself, and do you own. research too on gov.uk to check what your are eligible for and under what conditions. for me I have a medial condition which means there are some jobs I physically cannot do anymore, like restaurant work (i’ve worked as a pot washer before but cannot now). the work coach (to me) felt like they very much were purely going for - you just get any job and I had to push back against that. but me aware this could mean you get sanctions and revive reduced or no payments at all, as I say personally I got lucky and got a job after 2 weeks ish so I cancelled my claim anyway i’d say do your own research separately on what your eligible for. if you are asked to apply for a certain job, and don’t want to, ask if you can apply for a different one instead. they can be useful appointments especially when they let you know about jobs you didn’t know about, and signpost you to charities and services if needed. it’s a tricky one , I think a lot depends on if you get. a good work coach or not. mine wasn’t great and i’m glad I luckily got a job pretty quickly you’ll probably have compulsory cv writing and interview sessions to go to. it’s not a great system to be honest, but if you’re eligible you should get a (unfortunately small) payment each month as long as you meet the conditions good luck
