The assault on my senses when I visited Delhi. Truly, the smells. You'd have shit, followed by spices, rotten shit, a curry, baked piss, shit, turmeric, decaying garbage. The fucking rollercoaster aspect of every other breath was headache inducing. The noise is also insane. I couldn't go to bed because the all I heard were car horns echoing around in my head when I closed my eyes, even there wasn't a single actual car around. My brain was just fucking fried and traumatized and making them up. Don't ever go to India.

Not the guy you're replying to but I've travelled to 46 countries, and stayed at 1k a night properties in Maldives and Mauritius. Not bragging just giving context, as I also book budget trips and even do the odd hostel.

India is in the top 3 places I've ever been. Amazing scenery, food and people were really friendly.

I had a very bad perception of the people particularly before I went but actually found people were very genuine.

Don't expect anyone to change their opinion of it as it does look fucking horrendous from the outside. But just wanted to give the opinion of someone who has travelled a lot and visited a relatively broad range of countries.

If you want an actual dump to avoid then Marrakech and North Africa as a whole are places I will never go back to.

Yer that is regarded though and makes you sound like basement dweller, you'd miss out on Cambodia and Nepal which are both incredible destinations.

Personally I would much rather visit them than many traditionally popular first world destinations like Orlando.

Seems mad to rule out so many countries on such an arbitrary definition.

Travel for me is about adventure and discovery not how can I leave home but still have the same mod cons and conveniences of home.

I went with college friends that I hadn't seen for awhile. One was partially raised there, has family there, and has repeatedly asked for us to go together. I always declined, but got the strong sense declining again would seriously and permanently damage our relationship. I love my friend, so figured, "I'd only ever go if I had someone 'local' to show me around, so let's see how it goes".

She's not from Delhi and refers to it, as well as her entire family and friends, as a "Shit hole" that's not worth going to, but other friends really wanted to see it. The only value from Delhi was contextualizing my own life and good fortune. I've been to many different places in my life: the deepest of the South, South LA, rural Puerto Rico, decaying Siberian towns in Russia. None of these hold a candle to the filth and squalor, the abject poverty and commonplace destitution, the raw humanity I saw in Delhi. I tried to appreciate the unique experience it was giving me. But its truly not worth it for 99% of people to spend the time, money, and effort to go visit it over other places.

I flew internally in India and didn't have problems with passengers or actually flying. I imagined the price of flying probably limits the personnel quite strongly. The security was fucking annoying and so overly convoluted. They made me unpack shit in circles, saying "You can't take that". They insisted with this on an expensive little marble vase I bought "Because it's stone and you can't take rocks out of the country", even though that's obviously not the intent of that rule, and it was a domestic flight. Same went with all my friends for all of our electronic cords and chargers. But they backed down if we simply refused and said that's dumb.

By the time we left Delhi, we all thought we were getting sick with Covid or a flu. When we landed in Goa we were bewildered that we instantly felt better. My Indian friend pointed out that was because we weren't actually sick, we were all just fucking dying from the pollution and smog.

I flew on virgin from London to delhi. Never seen grown adults throw rubbish on the floor of the plane until that trip. None of them would wear headphones and watched films on tablets on full volume and they were constantly annoying the attendants for Bacardi and coke. I purposely chose to be as far away from the toilet as possible but the heathens were farting pure shit fumes. Really hard to keep breathing and smelling to a minimum on a 10 hour flight.
