Can’t wait to try

Would never ride one

Some of these Dallas drivers act like they don’t have eyes, so this is a plus for me. Plus competition breeds innovation, blah blah blah.
NowWeGetSerious@reddit
Nope, I won't touch it
tmc00138@reddit
I've done some work in the autonomous vehicles sector, so I pay attention to the details of it.
Tesla's system is the worst, and it's the worst because, of course, Musk himself decided that he would choose what system architecture to use, chose poorly, and refuses to course-correct. Because, you know, he's a genius.
Waymo's system is (pardon me) way better -- in fact, they're pioneering a genuinely groundbreaking new model now. And they release good safety data, which shows huge safety improvements as compared to human drivers (90% reduction in injury accidents, and zero fatalities, over something like 250 million miles). Tesla doesn't release meaningful safety data, and implied data from public reporting suggests that their 'robotaxis' might actually be a bit less safe than human drivers.
So yeah, I won't be taking any 'robotaxis.'

I've worked in insurance (off on); sales, claims, policy management etc - and Tesla are the worst to work with. From booking repairs, to handling insurance, to endorsements, or anything regarding a Tesla's body.
Personally, if a vehicle gives me that much of a headache, it just ain't worth my time. Sure you might only endorse it into your policy once or twice, or get into 1 or 2 accidents in 10yr avg, but those few moments, aren't worth the stress
I can only imagine how bad their system itself is
tmc00138@reddit
No exaggeration: The fundamental 'robotaxi' system architecture was obsolete, among the research community, by the end of the 1980s. Musk insists on it because he wants the vehicles to look like sportscars.
NowWeGetSerious@reddit
Musk is so out of touch on what we really want. Reliable and reasonably priced vehicle
My dad got the 2022 Kona electri for 33k, day 1 release.
No issues, it's decent looking, 270 range, charges quickly, and fully electric.
Never been serviced, never had any computer or chip issues (knock on wood), and he's already put 95k miles on it
SMF67@reddit
Dallas is one thing, but I can't fucking imagine how these things will handle the chaos of Houston
I_SmellFuckeryAfoot@reddit
fire coffin service. cool
ChicagoRay312@reddit
I first took Waymo in February in Phoenix. Been using them from downtown Dallas for a few weeks now. Love it! Very clean Jaguars. But I wouldn’t give Musk any of my money if I can help it.
SignificantNoise5261@reddit
I guess tesla is done innovating, they're now just following other's leads?
SocomPS2@reddit
Waymo fully autonomous launched late Feb. in Dallas.
SignificantNoise5261@reddit
They started the testing phase several months prior, however. With safety operators and private customers.
Even though waymo is functional and booming in places like Phoenix, they still started in Dallas with the normal test phases.
aurorasearching@reddit
I didn’t realize they were in Dallas until I saw one at Love Field the other day.
MeGustaTortuga@reddit
They can manufacture their own fleet, why would they not want a piece of the pie?
independant_786@reddit
I hate EM but if anyone is curious and on a budget, the ride prices are extremely cheap. Used one in Austin with a colleague and it was like $4 for a 5 mile trip
Comet7777@reddit
Loss leader strategy.
noncongruent@reddit
Efficient EVs can get over 4 miles per kWh. Using 4 as a round number and delivered cost of electricity per kWh of 16¢, that works out to be about 4¢/mile. That 5 mile trip had a "fuel" cost of 16¢. If it was a car that got 25mph, about the average in this state, at $3.50/gallon it would have burned about 70¢ worth of gas for the same trip, over four times the base cost.
Comet7777@reddit
Okay, now factor in the costs of: 1. Software R&D for self driving 2. Ongoing tech maintenance costs 3. AWS hosting of said services 4. Insurance and legal costs related to self driving liabilities
independant_786@reddit
Oh yea ofc. Also the best way to get folks to install and use the services. Penetration pricing.
BruceW@reddit (OP)
No price is good enough for me to order a ride in the most unsafe autonomous vehicles on the road
eduardo929292@reddit
It’s statistically safer than human drivers at this point
independant_786@reddit
Oh yea i agree. Just wanted to share for folks who are on a budget
poop_pebbles@reddit
The roads just got worst. Good luck out there.
CheezitsLight@reddit
Musk made a huge mistake not using lidar.
According to the Independent, Tesla faces over 20 major lawsuits with potential liabilities up to $14.5 billion, covering wrongful death claims regarding Autopilot.
Key issues include the "Morand v. Tesla" class action over misrepresented Robotaxi capabilities, lawsuits over faulty door handles in fatal crashes, and a $243 million verdict against them in a 2019 fatal Autopilot case.
Fires in the cyber truck are seventeen times worse than the Ford Pinto. That means the fatality rate of the Pinto per 100,000 units made is 0.85 versus 14.52 for the Cybertruck.
Don't get in either. Piece of shit. A dump truck. Only drive Toilettas!
synthetic-dream@reddit
I found my new hobby. Slashing tires!
BlueHorse_22@reddit
Because Elon Musk is such a great guy. Screw Tesla - wouldn't be caught dead in one.
yato17z@reddit
I cut them off every chance I get 😁, feels great
Arrasor@reddit
So you cut off the people known for being distracted while relying on questionable autopilot to assist them. And since Tesla has built in dashcam, if they fail to avoid colliding with you they would have footage of you cutting them off right before collision.
Bold strategy there. Totally would turn out fine for you. There are so many ways to protest Tesla, and you choose the one way that would hurt you more than them.
yato17z@reddit
🤷♂️ fuck em
Arrasor@reddit
Yeah I agree with fucking em, but you're fucking you, not them.
It's Dallas dude, everybody here is either used to or engaging in reckless driving. Being cut off is a daily occurrence it's not even gonna get a rise out of anyone. And like I said, they are known for being distracted while letting autopilot drive the car for them, they aren't gonna even notice you cutting them off.
On the other side, if accident happen it's you who gonna have an at fault claim on your insurance. They wouldn't even have to pay deductible.
So tell me, who's getting fucked here?
Just stop it dude. Like I said, there are plenty of other ways to actually fuck em. Like, going to vote in local and federal elections to get people who wouldn't grant (F)Elon taxpayer money elected.
yato17z@reddit
Good thing I don’t have insurance
Arrasor@reddit
So instead of $500 for insurance you would have their insurance's lawyers sue and garnish your wage for tens of thousand of $$$. Brilliant strategy.
Wanna know something funny? Elon and Tesla is ABSOLUTELY LOVING you. Should an accident happen they get to service their car AND sell car parts. You are actively trying to put MORE money in Tesla's pocket.
Tchaik748@reddit
Precisely. Dude should stay TF away from them.
I enjoy giving cyber trucks a thumbs down as I pass.
Traveshamockery27@reddit
Big Altima energy.

Did Waymo last week downtown. Mind blown 🤯!
If I have the option between Waymo or a rideshare with a human driver, definitely going Waymo.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
Yeah, the Waymos I've taken downtown have been pretty good. I trust them. These Tesla Taxis, not so much!
BlazinAzn38@reddit
Do they still have the chaperones that follow them around?
Prestigious-Arm-8874@reddit
Lmao believing a foreign owned newspaper with clowns 🤡🤡
Ed-Sanz@reddit
I don’t trust anything from Musk. If that crashes, he’ll make it to where to passenger was somehow the at the wheel.
Traveshamockery27@reddit
Given my experience with Uber drivers and Tesla’s FSD, I’d trust the robotaxi.
zughzz@reddit
Because waymo & things of the like haven’t caused issues in communities. /s
