How long will the journey be for you to not put up with music?

For a short tube ride of a few minutes I can put up with someone blaring music. But if I was to take a 5 hour train journey to Penzance then I can’t put up with that!

The 3hr flight from Rome with someone loudly watching YouTube videos behind me was a challenge.
Coconutpieplates@reddit
I was in a&e where a man was scrolling tiktok at full volume. Nobody said anything. You'd think in an ER people would have kicked off, but I think everyone was so enveloped by their own situation they were tuning him out accidentally.
ChelseaMourning@reddit
Probably too afraid to say anything.
SlickAstley_@reddit
Stewardesses can make them stop if you ask them
ChelseaMourning@reddit
They did. It was a dad and his tween son. They carried on anyway.
dl064@reddit
On an easyJet flight the other day it's his part of the pre-flight information.
No smoking, listen to the stewards, use headphones.
Coconutpieplates@reddit
I don't care too much so maybe 15/20 minutes is okay. Unless it's BLARING right next to me and there's no escape, then it's more like 2 minutes.
Rude-Possibility4682@reddit
About 2 meters from my house…on go the headphones.
RelationshipLife6739@reddit
That’s the issue with public goods. One person use diminishes the satisfaction of another persons. Thankfully we live in a somewhat tolerable country where you can just take ur own headphones and ignore them mate.
NecroVelcro@reddit
Not everyone can do that, though. I've got hyperacusis and ignoring noise is impossible. I use earphones with ear defenders over the top but that often isn't enough to overcome the noise of selfish shits on buses and trains. High volumes and shrill pitch can even better painful.
RelationshipLife6739@reddit
Loop + over ear headphones my friend.
NecroVelcro@reddit
I've tried countless combinations. None work well enough.
EvilTaffyapple@reddit
I wear headphones any time I leave the house, so I’m not bothered by bellends who play theirs loud.
CreativeAdeptness477@reddit
Depends on the source. If i'm at work on my delivery route I'd rather listen to stuff from my offline collection on my phone than anything else but I'd rather drive in silence than listen to commercial radio and contemporary pop music for example.
I can keep myself entertained without music, especially if I'm not driving. I've plenty of ebooks on my phone, or shitty mobile games. If needed I can just hum/sing music to myself in my head.
TheEnglishNorwegian@reddit
Just get some noise cancelling headphones and then you don't have to worry about any of that.
Sburns85@reddit
Headphones are stupidly cheap now. No excuse. Once had a bus driver pull over the bus I was on. And told the person to either put headphones on or switch it off
No-Door-3181@reddit
Had a bus driver do this to a teenager as well - twice. Hero.
Sburns85@reddit
The one I witness was an adult
Left_Reach2020@reddit
I have tinnitus so I have an excuse, but I'm not on to blast my phone in public either. It's just immature.
Electronic_Law_5295@reddit
Still, I'd rather listen to music than someone's insta reels
Did_OJ_Simpson_do_it@reddit
I can't put up with public transport at all, it's awful whether there's music or not.
GeggingIn@reddit
Tinny happy hardcore, Glasgow to Aberdeen.
After four hours I start screaming.
quagaawarrior@reddit
Usually, i ask politely to turn it down, and most do or ignore me. Recently, I've had a bit of a person of a temperament, so I've just been getting up and finding another spot rather than other things that spring to mind.
Polz34@reddit
It doesn't bother me, because I wear my headphones pretty much everywhere I travel so wouldn't hear it!
Urbanyeti0@reddit
I never leave the house without noise cancelling headphones and my own music so idgaf but it’s obv still a shitty move
dl064@reddit
Generally speaking it doesn't really bother me.
All that slightly annoys me as if something is actively spoiled eg a sporting event or film.
WhoLets1968@reddit
Days and days ....I am one of those people who doesn't really listen to music. Regularly take 2hr train journey into London with no music Radio in the car is tuned into a talk radio station... usually Radio 5 live
No_Effective_4481@reddit
The moment someone starts playing music in public transport on speaker is a moment too long. It's just rude and ignorant.
sakmentoloki@reddit
Nope, the second I step outside my house earbuds go Im and don't turn off until I get to where I am going. I cannot tolerate any kind of noise or stuoid conversations on loudspeaker etc.
I have taken a £50 uber in the past to avoid a 25 min trip on the underground with no earbuds.
Far-Hospital-9961@reddit
Always take your own earphones, then the limit does not exist.
You shouldn’t have to, granted. But the world is full of very selfish people.
Competitive_Test6697@reddit
It's easy. Just put your own music on full blast, your friends too, and gesture to other passengers to do the same. It's pretty funny
SituationMundane5452@reddit
I would tell them to turn it off straight away. No need for it, rude and disrespectful
