Can anyone tell me what kind of rifle / upper this is?

Bought this at a pawn shop a while ago and I am thinking about selling it but I’m not sure what I’ve got or what it’s worth. Thanks.

Could I? Yes. Will I? No.

24" bull barrel I bet that thing is so accurate and fast. Probably throwing .223 at 3400
OneManGang2001@reddit
If that is 24" then I am the King pf Antarctica.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
That is 24 inches lol... That's the barrel length it was sold in.. Because the velocity on a box of .223 is measured from a 24" barrel 5.56 box velocity is from 20" This is a 223 rifle
SmokinFilteredCrack@reddit (OP)
It is surprisingly accurate with just range ammo
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
Dpms used to make rifles just like this I always wanted one of the early .223 not 5.55 rifles before the whole industry standard was the same, these 24" .223's used to be allot more common. Haha I bet it is super accurate lol. I wish I woulda got a 20" 5.56 instead of a 16"
CartmanPhilosopher@reddit
Swap the barrel on your 16"....sure you can find a 20" bull for cheap. and it is easy to change it out.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
I could but I would rather just get a dedicated rifle or lower for it. My 16" is "good enough" for velocity I like being 3000fps + I think 16 is good length But a dedicated 20-24" for hunting would be nice.
CartmanPhilosopher@reddit
I've carried a 20" bull hunting and it sucks. I'd go lighter profile in a longer barrel if you want to get the velocity but still carry.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
Makes sense I picked a 16 for that reason and I don't shoot past 200 so with bullet selection I've found it to be enough. Mines at like 5.5lbs

It is a DPMS and it smells like a retirement home lol. When were they popular?
richiemendoza@reddit
Once upon a time 20-30 years ago, DPMS was one of the few companies that made AR-15s. Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS and Olympic. AR-15s were not cheap either.
Within the last couple of decades, AKs and AR-15s have swapped. Instead of a $400-500 AR from PSA, Romanian AKs could be had for $300-400.

I sometimes like to search for threads that are full of nostalgia.
I turned 18 in 2005, the AWB was gone, and I was on the hunt for my first rifle. ARs were expensive AF so I was on the hunt for a $350 AK- which movies and rap music made cooler than the AR anyway. Cheapest I could find was a WASR-10 that was $400 out the door. I did, however, go home with a Bushmaster flyer that I taped to my wall.
I was going to use deployment money to buy my first AR- a DPMS 11.5+5 because it had the XM-177 look to it, but then Sandy Hook happened, and I didn't want to pay the panic gouging prices. Ended up making a deal with someone in my unit for a MAK-90.
Thank God for PSA making affordable, functional AR-15 parts to crash the market and make it "common usage."

Early early 2000s rifle is probably about 20 years old. They sold these before dpms and bushmaster and Remington were scooped up and bought out and they laid everyone off and ruined the companies.
I have literally been looking for this specific rifle for about 5 years lol.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
These are actually pretty quality, people will hear dpms or bushmaster and say there trash, but both of there early stuff was super quality and well built, later on they had really bad quality control.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
If you do sell it, do not sell it cheap these are pretty desirable these days, and discontinued and out of stock everywhere and getting rarer and rarer on the used markets.
SmokinFilteredCrack@reddit (OP)
I appriciate the advice,I think you convinced me to hold on to it for a little while. Very cool to learn some a of the history behind it, I’m gonna do a little more digging on it. I wish you luck on finding one for yourself, 5 years is a long time to be looking
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
If I was you I would def hold onto it with the way the direction of the market has gone you don't see companies devoting resources to make dedicated firearms like this anymore even though it's a dpms the value will go up. Especially being the one you have is the specialized hunting variant for long range varmints. This is a varmint hunters dream rifle tbh.
the_duck17@reddit
I have a 20" AR-10 barrel from DPMS from ages ago and it's a laser.
Also, the barrel was like $80 on sale so that was wildly nice too.
OneManGang2001@reddit
How long is that bbl? 30"???? Zoinks
Fearless-Run-7924@reddit
it looks like a DPMS Panther 223. they run about 6 to 8 with that stainless steel barrel it should go for around 1000.00 it should say on the side . it could just be a clone ,witch it won’t have a cereal number on it. if it does have one . google the number and it will tell you what it is.

Zoomer gun take, go watch your gun tubers and have them tell you what's cool.

How much did you pay for it? Just curious
sun_blind@reddit
These uppers are hit and miss. I have 3 off them, .204 ruger, .223 and .223 wydle.
.204 is dead accurate, great praire dog and coyote gun. .223 is accurate enough, but is a 1 in 8 and does not like heavy bullets. Drop down to 45gn and it spits them out lightning fast causing lots of barrel ware. .223w had bad chamber from the factory and had to have it reamed out. After that and redoing the muzzle crown. It is the best now.
Replace the stock trigger first thing. Stock needs to go after that.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
This rifle is a 1:9 I believe that is what dpms used

Also, for anyone who wants to see the whole commercial set. It is definitely worth the 6 and a half minutes of your life.
SmokinFilteredCrack@reddit (OP)
I know it lol
TrustMeImFromTheGov@reddit
I bought one of those in new 2008. It’s a DPMS, factory, 24” fluted, bull barrel.
CartmanPhilosopher@reddit
Heavy.....pretty much a bench gun. If it were a 20" they would probably call it a varminter model. Probably DPMS but other companies made similar uppers like double star, M&A parts, JT distributing and more. Great rig for sitting static to shoot ground hogs, prairie dogs or sitting over a field to watch for coyotes. And great for punching paper. Probably has a 1:8 barrel or maybe 1:7 for heavier bullets.
MelTorme01@reddit
I think it's kinda cool.

Zoom out. I can’t read any of the markings
SmokinFilteredCrack@reddit (OP)
It’s marked DPMS Becker MN. I should have clarified that part. Another user gave me a little information on it.
Glitzernder_Pirat@reddit
My guess is DPMS or Olympic Arms.
Billybob_Bojangles2@reddit
Looks like an nra high power competition setup
BarryHalls@reddit
Many moons ago I saw a Bushmaster Varmint rifle that I remember looking exactly like that upper.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
Bushmaster and dpms made them
SheHerHearse@reddit
Builds like this are probably for varmints or slow fire.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
It's a dedicated hunting rifle and long range varmint gun. These were called "bull panthers"
worfhill@reddit
I have one that looks very similar. Mine is a custom shop from Alexander Arms in 6.5 Grendel.
