After 28 days, stranded humpback “Hope” is finally being moved to the Atlantic and the rescue effort is insane and streamed live right now

After almost a full month in the Baltic Sea, the stranded humpback whale “Hope” or also called "Timmy" near the island of Poel in Germany is finally being transported back toward the Atlantic today. The scale of this rescue effort is enormous.
Hope stranded 3 times over the past 28 days and spent nearly 20 days on a shallow sandbank, the baltic is full of sandbanks and traps so it is no suprise he strands so often in here. Throughout that time, he repeatedly showed signs of life and movement, which ultimately led to this large scale rescue operation. Just 2 days ago, he went into big motion and even flipped himself over 2 Times after beeing motivated by helpers to move.
The rescue itself is highly complex. Teams are working to carefully free him from the sand and position large air cushions under his body.
He is then placed onto a massive sling net that is supported between floating pontoons.
From there, a vessel will tow him slowly at around 5 km per hour through the Baltic Sea toward the North Sea, with the goal of guiding him back into the Atlantic.
Hope is believed to be a young humpback whale age 4-5, that followed prey into the Baltic Sea and became trapped in the shallow waters.
This is The most technically demanding marine rescue operations in ever and shows how far teams are going to give him a chance to return to open ocean waters.
Experts from all over the world flew to Germany to help that poor Whale that was wrongely called dying 20 days ago.

Update: A dead whale washed up on a beach in Denmark yesterday. Unfortunately, several reports have come out today saying the Danish government retrieved a tracker from the whale and say the serial number matches Timmy's tracker. However, there have been no official statements from the rescue team and DNA results are still pending.

Update: Timmy Hope was released this morning near Skagen, Denmark and they are monitoring his GPS tracker data. Hopefully, it will show he is making his way towards Norway and on to the Atlantic. There has been some controversy around the manner and conditions of the release. NEWS5 is continuing their coverage to provide the latest information.

Can anyone explain what I am looking at?

Hi, sadly they had to move the rescue to tommorow. That makes him stuck on that sandback for 21 days now! So nothing to see on the stream for now other than divers comforting the whale and preperations for this

He is well ❤️❤️❤️
He is currently on the ship and on his way to the Atlantic. They started yesterday night with the travel.
They managed to get him on the ship yesterday after 30+ days stranded. He is doing well, he was treated with medicine and managed to swim himself into his "bed" back home :)

The “experts” are actual experts. They are 100% correct that this whale is on its way to dying. By ignoring them, and trying to “rescue” it people are only tormenting the animal and prolonging its suffering.
I simply don’t understand why people ignore, denigrate, and even go so far as to issue death threats to the actual experts who know what they are doing and talking about. By doing that, they seem to think they are the experts, but they clearly don’t have access to any new or different information and they certainly don’t have the experience and training. So where does that confidence come from? Dunning-Kruger has entered the chat.

Actual experts from Norway, island and hawaii that are with the whale and on the spot disagree with you and the german "experts" that said he will die 20+ days ago... he didnt and showed he is fit and alive.
Environmentminister Backhaus himself said, they where wrong. Why are you saying otherwise?
Gramposity@reddit
I say otherwise because,
1) Backhaus clearly has zero experience with marine mammal health or stranded marine mammals. Although he is getting information from many sources, he has decided to amplify the ones that want to attempt to rescue the whale. He is not only a politician, but is the longest serving minister in the area. He's a good politician. He changed course only after the demonstrations started and started to support the private rescue effort
2) The primary veterinarian for the private initiative (Kirsten Tönnies) is a small-animal vet (i.e, cats and dogs). She also does not (as far as I know) have any experience with marine mammal health or marine mammal strandings.
3) The other big vet voice is Janine Bahr. She does have marine mammal experience, but mainly smaller dolphins. She is also very much an activist and very media-savvy.
4) Every organization of marine mammal researchers that do have experience responding to entangled and stranded large whales have released statements that this whale is very unlikely to survive and should be left to die in peace. That includes the International Whaling Commission (multiple times), Whale and Dolphin Conservation, Institute of Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research, Deutsches Meeeresmuseum, and British Divers Marine Life Rescue. That makes for hundreds of thousands of person hours of experience.
5) The whale still has fishing line entangled in its baleen that it has likely swallowed.
6) It has suffered severe osmotic shock being the much less saline Baltic Sea.
7) It has suffered weeks of acoustic trauma being surrounded by loud boats and large machines as well as the stress of being handled by so many people.
8) It has suffered weeks of sun and epidermal damage.
I love whales and dolphins as much if not more than most people.I would love for this animal to survive. However, I also do not want to cause it more trauma than it has already experienced if it is on its way out.
I know that experts devote their lives to these animals. It is difficult to hear things that don't want to, but that doesn't mean we can pick an choose the opinions that we like. If we don't have firsthand knowledge, we should try to evaluate the sources and pay attention to the ones that actually have the experience, not the ones that either are saying what we want to hear or are loudest.
Also, be careful about people claiming to be experts who also advertise themselves and come with cameras (e.g., Lehman). Check their actual background in the subject and see if they are really trying to help or just self promote.

Yikes. Didn’t expect to wake up to this conversation today. Wishing Timmy the best regardless!!

Trust me - Me too!!
My problem is with people denegrating and ignoring the folks who have devoted their lives to whale and dolphin conservation through rigorous study, work, collaboration, and publishing papers and rather listening to the ones that have the most YouTube viewers.

this is the problem with religion, you and people like you get caught up in group think
