Take home pay

I’m in Cali just got my CDL. What lane brought you the most take home pay (starting out ) or overall . A few companies I spoken with do team match but when I looked at the numbers it was about the same as Solo OTR . I don’t mind being OTR 3 weeks at a time or more. Is regional/local bringing more take home pay? As a beginner any advice on how I could maneuver from your experience is appreciated thank you.

California has a high minimum wage and overtime for truckers. So I would do local if you can.

Cali otr is below minimum wage. When I did regional western 7 or 11 I made less than $11/hour on days I was in southern california. This was only 3 years ago. For otr the midwest is best. I’m out of Portland and the megas love getting anyone who doesn’t live in cali a load into it and keeping us in LA traffic making $.50/mile so they don’t have to pay local drivers a living wage. Schneider even fired all their local drivers and put otr drivers on their routes making less than 100 billable miles a day.

Bruhhhh..I told my boy companies be doin this low key..they’ll try to get otr drivers to run local routes..it’s sickening..they’ll try tried me with that mess until I kept refusing the loads..now..nobody gets these local deliveries anymore or at least I don’t idk 🤷🏾♂️

The market is pretty cooked here in CA. Local is better for your take home than OTR IF you ever plan on coming home for home time. If you're truly okay with never being here then specialized OTR is going to pay best.
Out here (in SoCal) In & Out pays extremely well but they're not in a hiring cycle right now but I'd still keep them on a shortlist, Robertsons Ready Mix & Cemex offer decent wages home daily work, and ofc Swifts Intermodal is a decent option if you're located in LA, or the IE. Home daily, no-touch, weekly pay averages around $1,000-1,500 net depending on your hours & load count.
All in all unless you're O/O with a decent brokerage you're better off staying local in our state.
There are a handful of states that are deadends meaning a lot of stuff goes out but not a lot comes in. CA is probably the most notorious for this since a ton of manufacturing is done here.

Discussing take home pay is irrelevant.
There are variables from one person to the next that will bring discrepancies between gross and net. I max my 401k, HSA, am single, and have no kids.
Take home pay discussions are for people who are financially illiterate. It's like asking how much does it cost to fill your car. Not a relevant data point.
Gross pay is what matters.

I hear what you’re saying …I’m also single without kids so I understand the taxes part the 401k & HSA I’m not really worried about maxing it out …my question for you would be where did you see the most take home pay ? If you don’t mind .
nanneryeeter@reddit
I'm not in CA so my answers to that would be irrelevant. My largest paychecks were from oil and gas in the Midland area.
Gross pay is still what matters. Asking about take home pay is nonsense.

Teams make more than solo because the wheel don’t stop turning with the right trucking company.
Outside-Pattern1011@reddit (OP)
I agree It makes sense , that the company would prioritize team drivers more miles more on clock hours to deliver loads…but is it a significant pay difference one company I talked to said solo gets 2,500 miles weekly @ .58 cents (another) company said 2750 miles up to .62 cents

Get into food or bev, hustle for 2 years get some experience, work on getting your tanker and hazmat if you don’t already have that, and move to greener pastures

What are some food & bev companies? I do have tankers double/triple , but going through process (because of my record) to get TWIC & hazmat now Thanks
