This reminds me of when the Pokémon developers were asked whether it was possible to turn the EXP Share off. Their answer was "just remove all Pokémon except the one you want to get EXP from your party",
You probably mean the EXP ALL from gen 1. The EXP Share is a held item that popped up in gen 2 as soon as held items became a thing. And you can in fact solo the League with a lv 100 Mewtwo with seismic toss, psychic, and thunderbolt. Assuming you in fact wanted to use it. Otherwise there's a PC entry with the player's name for that.
I mean the EXP Share from the newer games that works like the EXP All from Gen 1, but on steroids. Instead of the battling Pokémon getting 50% of the experience and sharing the remaining 50% with the rest of the party, the battling Pokémon gets 100% of the experience, and the rest of the party gets 50% of the experience.
there you go misrepresenting the context to fit your narrative.
this was about a gun in a single player shooting game.
as in one gun out of a whole bunch. a gun you're not required to use for anything.
and you call that a baked mechanic at the games core?
ridiculous.
you also control the games that you play.
so if a mechanic is required and you don't like it, maybe you're not the target audience. but there are a bunch of other games for you still.
there you go misunderstanding/missing the context to look like a dumbass.
The "ruining gaming discourse forever" wasn't about doom, it was about people misusing that tweet with other games where the spoken mechanics were actually baked in.
you call that a baked mechanic at the games core? ridiculous.
it is ridiculous because I didn't say that lmfao
you also control the games that you play.
This is true, and people should stop being overly negative, but people overuse this to dismiss criticism.
I've UN'd quite a few doom games so don't go lecturing me on shit that u misread in my comment.
Yeah, exactly. It's one thing for WOKE AND GAY PRONOUNS(tm) since that wouldn't normally be a core game mechanic, but not using a core mechanic is an active disadvantage. It's like sprint in Halo. You can't not use sprint in modern Halo since you actively put yourself at a disadvantage by not using it. And of course, sprint as a whole effects the entire game so it's not just a matter of "I don't like how it feels to use," it's a matter of the game as a whole. Words are hard, but I hope people get what I mean.
The ice bomb is so good though, on Nightmare you have to constantly rotate between it and the grenade, it'll save your ass many times and you'll learn to love it
"just don't use it" doesn't actually address the qualm being brought up, in that "it" is introduced and expected in the loop.
"You control the buttons you press" has done irreparable damage to discourse because actual brainlets think it's a "gotcha" while it doesn't actually address the core of the issue.
Your response is exactly what anon is complaining about. Sure, you do literally control the buttons you press, but as the comment above you points out, the game design necessitates you to use the ice bomb to succeed in higher difficulties.
Responding with that quippy phrase ignores the nuance of the situation and shuts down discussion of how the implementation of the mechanic affects how fun the game is to play.
Anon is essentially saying that the popularity of social media "gotcha" responses like this have led gaming discourse towards bad-faith discussions where people simply try to "win" in the most aura-farming way possible, instead of thinking critically about the media they consume.
My ONLY critique of Doom Eternal, honest to god, is that the toggle for the ice grenade makes no fucking sense.
Press G to use it (I don't remember, I rebound the controls for comboing easier), but then it's like, pressing R to switch which Grenade.
If there's only 2 fucking grenades, then make G the Grenade, the R the Ice Grenade. I specifically wrote a script for my Keyboard where when I press R in Doom Eternal it actually does R>G>R to instantly fire the Ice Grenade.
I'm also a crackhead (250+ hours). Everything besides wasd is rebinded and I swap grenades with the scroll wheel, any direction, and fire with scroll click.
Oh yeah, my mouse wheel up is the plasma, mouse wheel down is gatling, Q is for the autocannon, 1 is the shotgun, 2 is the super, 3 is the arbo, 4 is the rockets
So generally I'm mashing 1 > 2 > 1 > 2 for basic shotgun swapping; or 2 > 4 > 3 for higher hp enemies.
It's weird to me to play the game on the default controls
For a recent example of why this is not actually a proper argument;
Sprint has been added to Halo: CE Remake 2. Sprint has been a spot contentiousness for a long time, but being added to this game really is a bad idea that can't be glossed over by being turned off. Here's why.
If Sprint has been added to an otherwise faithful remake, then the developers do not understand the deliberate choice in movement speed that was chosen for the environment and adding a sprint function breaks the design of the game. Having Sprint available at all is bloat and can ruin a players experience.
if the game has been changed to accommodate sprint, then the entire experience has been altered to warrant the new movement speed, and so anyone who doesn't use it is slogging through a much bigger space and against much faster enemies.
There is no outcome in which sprint being added is a good idea, and simply giving the option to not use it does not provide an adequate fix for the problem. Improperly implemented bloat mechanics cannot be fixed by not pressing the button, because either the rest of the game is bent over backwards to accommodate bloat, or the addition of the bloat just breaks the game because it isn't balanced.
is there something wrong with the original? no right?
that game never needed a remake so the moment you saw it be announced you should have just laughed at the obvious nostalgia-bait cashgrab.
what you're mad about is that you got conned into buying something you didn't need.
it sucks, I agree. and it happens to all of us.
you're not making a strong point here, lot of "if"
but you still make the authoritative claim that it couldn't possibly be done with sprint. which is the kind of certainty that must make you wrong. there is always a way to do things well.
but you shouldn't expect them to do things well for a cashgrab product.
The point of a remake isn't to fix a broken product, it's to put a fresh coat of paint on a game that lots of people already enjoy playing. Of course no one "needs" a remake, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to buy one and then being upset that the remake fundamentally changes the gameplay of the original.
Definitely for some, but I think most people just really want or like to complain. I've seen people complain about shit like housing in wow, which is completely optional and you actively need to go out of your way to even interact with it. And in many MMO instances the platinum trophy thing is near impossible because they have a shitton of legacy achievements that just arent obtainable anymore
i've seen people genuinely never willing to touch baldur's gate 3 because they saw the ultra-specific path you basically have to build up to for the entire game in which you get to fuck a guy whilst he is shapeshifted into a bear.
I remember when KCD2 came out and people were mad that you could click dialogue options with hearts next to them over the course of 50 hours to have a 30 seconds gay sex scene and how that ruined the game for them. My brother in christ you clicked the buttons

I was literally looking for gay sex scenes while playing and completely missed it. The only reason I played the game was because of a 2 hour chud review calling the game woke and gay propaganda so I had to check it out (then ended up having a lot of fun so stuck with it to the end). Clearly I have to replay it

Wyll and Gale aggressively giving sad puppy eyes when you reject them was sad. I literally didn't even have wyll in my party at any point in the game and he still wanted to "dance" with me then did the saddest cupid shuffle away after I declined because I was already, enticed, by Karlach
