Fire in the Sky

Who remembers this movie? Supposedly a true story about an alien abduction. This movie scared me so much I won’t watch it to this day. Came out in “93”.

I just visited the site of his abduction last week after randomly seeing it on a topographical map while camping nearby. I was a bit disappointed that there’s no kind of signage or marker (and surprisingly not even any trash left by the “I Believe” crowd)

Perfectly terrifying way underrated movie.
Reading Whitley Streiber around that time made it all the more dark.

Yeah, the early 90s was the golden age for the paranormal. Communion came around the same time as I remember. Crop circles, bat boy, a few special episodes of Unsolved Mysteries, and the Time-Life Mysteries of the Unknown books.
Accurate-Survey6985@reddit
For sure.
And the big Cryptozoology wave. Bigfoot. Skin walkers.
Everything seems to come in waves.
The Jackalope will return.
SOOOOOOOOON

No one understands anal probes these days. I really wish we could go back to those type of weird conspiracy theories.

I went and saw this at the theaters and believed it ever happened even less.
Likewise, went to Roswell and came away being even more skeptical of ur existence if UFOs, lol

My mom was so into all of this stuff. As rebellion I became ridiculously analytical and pragmatic

One of the younger guys who was in the pickup just died and made a deathbed confession that it was all a hoax. He explained that Tavis Waltons older Brother was the light sorce and who Travis left with that night. He said he was confused at first and that's why he passed a lie detector but as he got older it unraveled and ge said Fire in the Sky ruined his life. We got that info the same week we found out the Patty bigfoot film was a hoax as the guys Son came out with footage of them messing with the suit in another location.
evil_mike@reddit
It was filmed in Oregon, and Robert Patrick spoke during a Rock the Vote event for Bill Clinton in 92. I saw him hanging out back behind the crowd smoking a cigarette while some other folks were talking and told him I loved him in T2.

Yesterday I had to drive my boyfriend to the optometrist for an eye injection. They used a metal contraption to keep his eyelid open. I instantly flashed back to this movie.
boggypondwater@reddit
I was a teenager in the late 80’s and had a flake of iron stuck in my eye. It had started to rust into my eyeball and to remove it the doctor used the metal contraption to keep my eyelids open along with a dentist drill to remove the goo that was rusted.
In true Genx form my parents were not with me and despite just receiving my learners permit I drove myself home with one eye patched. Zero depth perception made it a challenge.

I just watched No One Will Save You (2023). It went in blind and it was an abduction movie. Freaky scary. Not scary scary. I'd recommend it.
Zombalepsy@reddit
Have you watched “The 4th Kind”? Scary scary
Working_Park4342@reddit
It's on my list now! Thanks
_plays_in_traffic_@reddit
that needle in the eye scene has forever traumatized me
Real-Emu507@reddit
My kids listened to a podcast and they mentioned this incident so we watched it.. Me : terrified. My children: 🙄🙄🙄 not so much
Own_Catch6231@reddit
I grew up in that area. Many sleepless nights after seeing this at the movies

The aliens look like Gerald Ford.
krakatoa83@reddit
Tragedy today, as former president gerald Ford was eaten by wolves.
Arch2000@reddit
This movie was fun and a real mind fuck
Outrageous_Plum5348@reddit
Was obsessed with the book. Bought in 100%, then the whole fakery revelation. Wah wah waaaaaaah.
Smash_Factor@reddit
Yeah, Walton was full of shit.
vaeric@reddit
Saw this at the theater with friends in high school. Freaked me the hell out. I actually haven’t watched it since then. I should watch it again though and see how well the effects hold up.
megacide84@reddit
The abduction and experiment scenes really haunted me as a child.
When people talk about "first contact" and how insanely optimistic they'd sound. I would pull out my smartphone and show them clips of said scenes. In a this is how "first contact" would actually play out.
This movie made me into a believer of the 'Dark Forest Theory'.
Werechupacabra@reddit
I watched this the day after I had my wisdom teeth extracted. I felt sick and my mind felt greasy from the Percocet I’d taken.
It was not an enjoyable experience.
warrenao@reddit
Totally, utterly, 100% bogus. Walton was grifting to avoid defaulting on a contract with the Forest Service, hoaxed his friends with a spotlight from a fire tower, and has been grifting along ever since.
over9ksand@reddit
Source? Excellent theory I’m just curious about how you figured?

I grew up near here and remember it being quite the community tale.

Still is!

This started my fear of the grays. Also Unsolved Mysteries. 👽
Spicercakes@reddit
I watched this movie for the first time at a friend's apartment that was deep in the woods down a dirt road. I was so uneasy going home that night that I made my ex-boyfriend ride with me (we had the same friend group)
We ended up making out in my car on said dirt road. Nobody was abducted.
AugustiJade@reddit
I had nightmares about this film the first time I had watched it, back in 93/94. I’ve hated it since then.

I've already done it a long time ago. I meant to look that up again just the other day. Communion I think also.
