No, absolutely not true (not about Arnold’s accent—that I have no idea about). People usually don’t lose their original accents if they learn a new language after a brief pre-adolescent period. This is a known phenomenon. I have absolutely no sympathy for the woman and who she associates with but the fact is the fact.

Accents absolutely do fade over time though, they just fade more slowly the older a person is when they remove themselves from their mother tongue.

I personally know a bunch of German and English people who moved to the U.S. at various stages of their lives (some well into adulthood). And every single one of them lost some or all of their accent over time. The only people I’ve never heard lose any of their accent (if they speak English at all) were older immigrants.

Arnold came over at 21, and barely spoke any English at all. I didn’t know this until fact checking myself just now, but by now his accent is very faint when talking casually and he has to kind of embellish it when speaking publicly or acting. And early on he actually hired a coach to try and lose the accent faster, before he realized it was sort of a signature feature of his and decided to instead try and keep it.

Fun fact about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s mother tongue. Arnold grew up in rural Austria speaking Austrian German. After becoming famous from starring in the movie The Terminator, his movies were released to international audiences. Because of Arnold’s dialect of German, they had to release his movies dubbed over in German by a different voice actor, because Arnold’s dialect of German is akin to a strong American southern accent in English, and the German speaking audiences could not take his accent seriously.

Foreigners do end up with an Americanized version of their own accent, which is why Arnold literally has an accent coach to keep his Austrian accent. I was born in a place with a very pronounced accent, moved in my early 20s to a whole other place with a totally different language, took 5 years or so to get fluent in that language, and lost 60% of my original accent in the process, which applies to my accent in both of my fluent languages.

Because someone on this thread is being a pedantic ass about it, I’ll state the disclaimer that of course learning a new language after puberty can still impart some degree of accent synchronization, but it’s a spectrum and the greater that degree / the innate accent talent, the rarer. For most people, they’re never going to sound fully native, though.

All our politicians are using immigration to solve problems they create. Wages are kept at rock bottom while cost of living skyrocket. The poors don’t want to work 80 hours a week to barely subsist in a shack with 12 family members. Educated Americans see the Europe model and want work life balance.

Luckily, you have immigrants willing to live like shit compared to their skill set and work 80 hours a week. We don’t need them. It’s just a way to keep wages low, exploit us and keep the machine moving.

Any non regarded American should see how absurd it is to import highly educated workers on masse when we have millions of highly educated workers unable to find work in their field.
