ULPT Request: My car was hit in a parking lot but I got yelled at

Sitting in my car after the gym and the guy next to me hits his car door into mine. His face goes white, especially after he sees that I’m sitting in the car. I (female) get out to see how bad it is. He jumps in his car. When he sees me taking pictures of his license plate, he jumps out and gets in my face. I was so scared. He threatened me, cursed at me, berated me and my car saying, “mine is twice the cost of yours anyways!”

Just curious what I could do, especially if I see him, or his car at the gym again.

The gym needs to know he is harassing you and you are afraid for your safety. Report him to the gym.

I’ll pay out of pocket because car insurance in the U.S. is wild and painful.

File a police report and tell them he threatened you and you would like the police to get his insurance. Report the damage to his company and they should pay 100%, the adjusters will be able to determine fault easily.

If he goes to the same gym as you , you should inform the managers and staff about the interaction and that he makes you feel unsafe. They will take it extremely seriously and ban him more than likely

I had the same thing happen to me at a 7-11. Some big muscle head with his girlfriend. I just let him yell got back in my car and called 911. He of course left by the time the police showed up. I had the plate number and showed the police the dent in my door. I got a call three days later and the detective said they called him to come in and discuss what happened. He apparently got nasty with the detectives during the interview so they just gave him the brackets right then and there. I ended up getting a rental car for 4 days and my car fixed better than new. Just file a police report and let them deal with it. If you have full coverage you can also call your own insurance and put in a claim. They will hunt him down and get their money from his insurance

Unfortunately, the police won't do anything for damage done on private property. They won't even give you a police report. Take a picture for your insurance and report it to the gym owners.

It totally depends on the situation. If it’s a moving violation” only then no. They’ll do nothing. If they were reckless or endangered someone, yes they would.

Report this to the police. He probably has a warrant out for his arrest and used intimidation to thwart you from making any calls, and it sounds like it worked.

Idk about the warrant part; Was probably just trying to be intimidating to avoid responsibility. Tell the police, tell insurance, also def let the gym managers know, in case hes a member.

My un-ethical tip; Follow him home, come back one night in the future and cut his fuel lines.

When it comes to legal matters like this, you don't do unethical. Go back in the gym and tell them what happened. Show them the pictures. See if they'll check cameras and stuff.
