Truckers: what’s one thing that would actually make life on the road easier?
Could be anything - food, parking, sleep, showers, routing, paperwork, or something else. If someone built an app or product for it, what should it solve?
narrdarr@reddit
Nation wide road condition/ weather app
JoyKil01@reddit
I use WeatherWise for this. It’s free and gives a great view of the entire country — and can overlay a 3-day outlook. You click on highlighted regions and it gives you the weather alert for that area too. It’s made by Ryan Hall Y’all and has a bunch of other features, but it’s how I plan my husband’s route around severe weather.
narrdarr@reddit
Yea... But .. it is missing the road stuff
gear_jammin_deer@reddit
An app that would teach the average moron how to drive would be absolutely fantastic
TruckinTuba@reddit
My company started using an app called black berry, it shows us where in the yard trailers are, has saved us so much time
Aggravating-Meal4984@reddit
Trucker path and weigh my truck
indytrucks@reddit
Truck stops that don’t rob you on anything you actually need to buy while you’re out because you’re paying for “convenience”. And also healthier food options.
trucksarekewl@reddit
Ah yes the weekly trucker app post lol
MissYouDesertRat@reddit
God why do these startup fucks try to farm us every fuckin week for a bullshit app.
Fact_set@reddit (OP)
Just a student, wanted to work on some meaningful project that could make people life’s easier.
kickniteasy@reddit
What are the parameters of the project?
Fact_set@reddit (OP)
You mean the scope? It is open ended really. Could be a big project. It is not a hard deadline project so its flexible. Just want to build and invest time in a project that could be at the same time making someone life easier. You have any suggestions?
kickniteasy@reddit
No, I mean what is the assignment?
Once or twice a week a "student" comes into a trucking subreddit looking for ideas on a "project" and it's wild because nobody can say what the assignment is, when it's due, what it needs to include, or what the purpose is.
Educational institutions sure have changed....according to the people that post asking about project ideas the instructor just says "I don't know....just do something....sometime...at some point"
MissYouDesertRat@reddit
If there isnt a company mandated app for it, theres 0 way a student project competes with anything we already have.
Fact_set@reddit (OP)
Fair point, but being company-mandated doesn’t automatically make an app good. A smaller project can still compete if it solves an actual frustration better than the tools drivers are stuck using now - which idk about and thats why asking for clarity/opinions.
MissYouDesertRat@reddit
Doesnt matter, if its mandated we cant use yours. Youd have to work with trucking companies and not us.
Moist-Ad9272@reddit
My best investments have been a drone and an electric scooter. The drone comes in handy if you’re in a tight spot and don’t feel like getting out 100 times and the scooter is just handy if you wanna go somewhere near where you’re parked for food, light shopping, sightseeing, etc.
Caltastrofe@reddit
Also trucker path kinda sucks for directions, zoom, move and editing on the fly but mostly I just need more/byte lizards
Caltastrofe@reddit
I need a way to tell if posts on Tryst/Skipthegames are cops or scammers
Top_Firefighter144@reddit
An app that would find me a place to safely park at 6pm that isn't on the side of an on ramp. Bonus points for clean bathrooms.
Puzzleheaded-East829@reddit
Trucker path, never had to park on an off ramp or side of the road using it. You dont even need to pay for it cause you can check if a stop is full or not before you get there
Top_Firefighter144@reddit
Yeah, okay.
Fact_set@reddit (OP)
Is that a pretty common issue on trips? Also, are you usually required to stop at certain truck stops, or can you pick your own as long as you stay within your hours?
Top_Firefighter144@reddit
Not required to stop at any certain truck stops as I make my own schedule. Staying within the hours I'm allowed to drive I always end the day around 5 or 6 when there are next to zero places to park. Obviously some states are better than others.
DeepthinkerCC@reddit
It depends on where you are at. Any major city, East Coast and west coast are horrible for parking. Yes we can pick where we want to stop. Problem comes from timing when we get to where we need to stop.
OnAJourneyMan@reddit
Literally everything that can be solved by apps already has been. And none of that is a big deal.
The bullshit parts of trucking can’t be solved by apps.
driver004@reddit
A honest load board has not been solved. Come on app bros
nuget102@reddit
I would love to see a good load board app in the future. A lot of the load boards are just double brokered loads from what I hear..
driver004@reddit
Honestly, and I’m about to kick a hornets hive, if the FMCSA wishes compliance, than they would BE the only load board logically speaking
Dlast_sharp_needle@reddit
An app that finds good paying trucking jobs for your area and compares to other areas to see if moving or lying about residency is worth it lol
3amGreenCoffee@reddit
I'd like an app that keeps app developers from spamming subs on Reddit.
RevolutionaryDebt365@reddit
Paper log book that I can cook so I can drive when I'm awake and park when I want to sleep. F- yo trip plannin.
Pew_Goon@reddit
They already exists and there's no way you're going to vibe code a better one.
homucifer666@reddit
An app that continually deletes the Reddit accounts of all the app dev hustlers plaguing this sub...
Automatic-Maybe-9790@reddit
A truck routing app that isn't shit. I truly don't understand why Google maps doesn't have an option for truck routes. Something with google-map level accuracy, satellite view, weather overlays. Also, add in a feature that tells us road conditions at specific intervals along the route. Self-updating hour markers along the "route preview" screen would help for trip planning as well. Truck entrances would need to be a priority as well. And make it free. We need that extra money to pay for parking now if we happen to run out of hours at a PFJ.
Automatic-Maybe-9790@reddit
Also, the ability to integrate our hours of service into the app as well as pulling parking updates from trucker path to give us suggestions on where to park at the end of our shift.
