My dad does occasional proofreading/editing academic papers, not sure what the company is but he can do as much or as little as he wants, he just needs to do 1 paper per month minimum to keep his account active.

Both my parents have also done translations in the past.

Not sure if either of those suggestions fit your skillset :)

Dataannotation.tech is a common one for remote WFH that pays by hour provided you get chosen by them, there's a subreddit for it.
